That's a good one! I'm trying to do the opposite. My MBR is 2,000 calories and I would like to lose weight on a 3,000 calorie diet, with no exercise. Any tips?

I do not schedule rest days - I do rest days when I don't have time or motivation to do my cardio workout. On those days, I walk, aiming for 10,000 steps, and I do stairs, aiming for 12-16 flights. If I achieve my goals, I can feel it in my muscles. I log it as, e.g., 10,000 / 100 + 16 * 2 = 132 calorie exercise. Works…

Thanks for an excellent post, OP. Also, many good points in @lgfrie post. I believe planning for life stressors and other disruptors (such as travel, holidays, etc) is absolutely critical to success. That includes planning the bootstrap for when we completely give up for a week or two. It may never happen, but if it does,…

Here is one - http://www.swimmingcalculator.com/swim_log_grid.php . It clocks me at 15 calories per minute. I think it's a bit high, I log it at 12 calories per minute.

Physical distance does not matter! You can always take a 5 minute walk to get to the bathroom that is 10 feet away. At work, my bathroom is on the same floor as my office, but I always go three floors up and back on the way to the bathroom.

Very true. With the emphasis on you. It took me years to figure out what works for me. It wouldn't work for most people; in fact, most people would find it completely ridiculous. When you find that right balance, where you can have a sustainable lifestyle that you enjoy, while maintaining a consistent calorie deficit, the…

I'm curious, how many calories do you estimate per minute of swimming? (I plugged in my numbers in the swimming calculator at http://www.swimmingcalculator.com/swim_calories_calculator.php and it gives me 15 calories per minute, which seems very high. I track it at MFP at 12 calories per minute.)

For snacks I use fruit, or dried fruit (dates and figs), sometimes nuts. Of the prepackaged ones, RXBAR is my favorite.

I find Trutein very palatable.

This is a medical question. Even if you were to get any responses here, I'd suggest checking with your physician first.

Would be interesting to hear from Chick Corea (though not a guitar player). He's lost tons of weight (my guess would be close to a 100 lbs), and it must've affected the physical aspects of his playing as well.

Scotch, Cognac, meats, and fish.

Unbelievable that a protein bar can taste this good!

I agree with everything lgfrie said except this paragraph. I have attempted to quit many times. Finally I used both the gum and the patches, to soften the cravings. The gum tastes so bad I couldn't wait to stop using it. I gradually decreased the patches down to zero, over a 4-week period. Without them, I think I would…

No, you should try different things and find out what works for you.

Some people can't do math.

Some of this is true, in theory. But the opposite is also true. For weight loss, the most important part is not the diet, but CICO. Cardio IS for losing weight - it burns calories, thus it participates in CICO. In theory you could eat same as before and still lose weight with cardio that offsets your calorie intake. Given…

That would include glucose, dextrose, fructose and galactose, sucrose, maltose and lactose, right? There goes fruit, honey, agave...

For more details about how habits are formed and how they can be changed, read Charles Duhigg - The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business - http://www.amazon.com/dp/081298160X . It's an interesting read.

As someone said in a similar thread:

Nice. Thanks.

Eat more carbs. So there. Now I'm waiting to be booted from the thread... I've never seen it done before, I'm sure it's going to be a neat trick!

I have no limit on fruits. I eat huge, but not unlimited, portions of gelato. Works for me.
-
Yeah, me too, and I can't help wondering, how the heck did I get fat if I can't even manage to eat 1000 calories a day?

600 calories is nothing. By the time today is over I will have gone ~1,200 over my calorie goal. That's life, I've learned to live with it. A little less ice cream tomorrow, and maybe an extra lap around the block, and life goes on and all is well.
