I do both but prefer outdoor because, I'll admit, am motivated by the thought of others looking at me and thinking "I should be running." Sure, that's a pretty self-involved reason to like it, but whatever it takes for you to JUST DO IT is what you should do. Co-signing on the TM running: it can be boring if you let it.…

I recently switched from a 3x/week 5x5 program to a 5x/week split. Previously, I worked my legs 3x/week, but now only 1x/week. I noticed that about 2 days after leg day, I have DOMS like you wouldn't believe. I didn't really experience this with my previous workout (well, in the beginning, yes; but after I continued on in…

Age: 42 years HW/SW: 358 lbs GW: 200 - 215 lbs (ideally, 200!) LW: 193 lbs CW: 208 lbs Current maintenance: 2500 cals As I lift and/or run at least 5 days/week, MFP (and my own calculations) say that I'm not eating enough. I'll probably up it to 2900 as I want to add about 6 lbs of muscle and then drop my BF from 17% to…

This topic is like fart gas and about as useful. Take personal responsibility for ALL of your actions and decisions, regardless of who/what influenced them because in the end, you -the individual- made the decision to do whatever. If the info you based it on is flawed, too bad. You have now learned from that failure and…

Outstanding!! I don't know you but I'm proud of you! I got mines off at age 39. I weighed 358 lbs...I now try to keep my weight between 200-215 lbs with my current weight (as of last Wednesday - that's my weight day) is 211 lbs. I know: I gotta lose 6 pounds .. Anyhow, keep looking ahead!

Your friends: Stop whining and get new ones. Your family: Stop whining, accept that your purpose in life (or theirs) is to make you (or them) happy. Find your own happiness with your children and husband.

For me, I simply forced myself to run faster for longer periods on the treadmill. I am not a "natural runner" but have found that I enjoy it simply because I'm able to do it now. On the treadmill, I started at 6.0 mph (10 min/mile) for periods of 2 minutes and then slow it down to 5.0 mph to catch my breath (no more than 1…

I do whey protein shakes (56 g/2 scoops/280 calories) pretty much 5 days out of 7. Beans about the same. Chicken, turkey or fish every day. MFP has me at 219 grams/day, but more often than not, I fall short by 40% or more. I apologize for not being clearer, but I guess that I was looking for someone to point out some…

My most heartfelt congratulations! Although I run regularly, I haven't found the courage to enter a 5K for some reason. Somebody kick me in a**, please!

Well, some others may think you're bragging, but I understand what you're saying. For me, as the fat kid growing up, I got comments alright - just not those that I was after. When I lost weight, I started getting compliments on what good job I'd done, I bet you feel better, "how can I lose weight", blah, blah, blah. After…

Muscle does not "weigh" more than fat. Muscle is more dense than fat, meaning given an equal volume of muscle and an equal volume of fat, the muscle will weigh more (be heavier) than the fat. What appears to be happening is that the "weight" (pounds) is simply being contained in a smaller vessel (girth of waist/hip/thigh,…

^^^This is me. Training on an empty stomach is the only way I can work. Since I run 2-3 miles before I lift, the sloshing in belly really gets to me. I've done it this way since I started and have had no problems. Just remember: do what works for you and you only.

So far, this post has been the most insightful of them all. It's true that we make time for everything that's "important" but won't make time for the 2nd most important relationship that any of us can have .... the relationship with ourselves! (God being #1 in my book.) Yesterday, I ran 5 miles and was pretty pleased with…

Haven't had a drink in nearly 4 years! Just gave it up one day when I started losing weight and never looked back. With that said....when I was a drinking youth, it was Crown Royal, Jim Beam or Evan Williams (green label). Other times, it was some good ole homemade that my uncle and his sons brewed by the drum (hope thar…
