  • I've been doing "low carb" but have kept my green smoothie in the morning. I add a dollop of coconut oil into it. I think you just need to watch and see how it goes, and monitor the carbs the rest of the day if you take more in your smoothie. I found the coconut oil helped me to use a little less fruit in the smoothie but…
  • People who are "calorie -centric" will think your question is strange. I don't happen to think that calorie count is the final answer to weight loss for many of us. I manually set my carb goal as mentioned above, and I just hit the "nutrition" button to check my carbs during the day, or the total on the diary page. You can…
  • I'm doing low carb. I didn't realize how controversial it was til I started peeking around this site, LOL.
  • Wow, lots of disagreements here. I just read the books "Why We Get Fat" by Gary Taubes and "The Big Fat Surprise" by Nina Teicholz, and there is some medical evidence to support the low carb/high fat diet because "saturated fats" may not be the devil we've thought. Low fat certainly doesn't work, and "counting calories" is…
  • I've just been searching the Internet for low carb recipes. Make sure to adjust your goals for low carb, as the automatic setting may not be low enough for you.
  • Great post Jennmc6! Thanks for the tips! I would recommend Vitex herbal supplements for hormone imbalance. It's pretty cheap and I took 2, 400 mg pills a day for the first month, then cut back to 1 a day. It helps your body to balance and regulate your hormones- it's not adding anything. I have had big improvements with my…
  • You're going to get all kinds of responses on this, as food choice drives folks nuts. Eat "real" food- not chemically altered crap. Eat small amounts of it- or the appropriate serving size. "Fat free" garbage and chemical sugar substitutes are disasters for our bodies and our health. I think this approach annoys a lot of…
  • Sugar free and healthy fats! There are plenty of sugar subs like Stevia, or a little maple syrup. Nix the unhealthy fats and go with small amounts of olive or coconut oil and some dairy ( if you can tolerate it). Your body needs healthy fats to function properly! But you don't need any sugar other than what you get from…
  • The taste really varies from brand to brand. I've gotten accustomed to the Trader Joe's powdered one, but I find some are too sweet, and some too bitter. The pros are that it is natural and doesn't have the chemicals of other sugar replacements. Also, sometimes it's high in fiber, depending on the brand and the version.

  • I'm 43, and I take Fish oil, Evening Primrose Oil (good for excema and PMS), Vitamin D3 (good for immune system and may help to prevent skin and breast cancer), and Carditone (herbal formula to aid in reducing blood pressure). I also drink a homemade green smoothie every morning to make sure I'm getting a big dose of…
  • Keep in "mind" - not "ind" oops!
  • Thanks for this post!!! I was shocked to see I was having the same issue almost every day. It's not easy to increase your calories without increasing the protein. Even veggies have some protein. It's great to read all the responses here. I'll keep in ind the low protein settings here at MFP and consider it a minimum.
