  • Iron can be tricky. I was severely anemic for a long time. Often, just increasing iron intake isn't enough if your body has trouble absorbing the iron. Look into iron absorption & maybe add a supplement that contains the right balance of 'other good stuff' to make sure your body benefits from the supplement. I use Shaklee…
  • Here's a previous thread about this topic that might help you. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/181354-kind-of-weird-question As for the popping in your back, that may be another issue...
  • YES - MEASURE!!! and water, water, water!
  • Shaklee Vitalizer multi-vitamin. They also have a CorEnergy tablet and an energy chew you could try if you are specifically looking for an energy boost. Kinda pricey, but great products. ...I just checked and the energy products may contain caffeine because they contain green tea - but the labels are viewable online so you…
  • hmmm... I do find that I snack less throughout the day when I get a decent breakfast.
  • sounds good - I might try this later this week. Thanks!
  • Thanks for all the great info! Thanks for all the suggestions and for the tip about Whole Foods - I think I'll head over there this weekend (only a 15 or 20 minute drive, just not close enough to be a store I frequent...).
  • I have a polar (FT60) and love it. The chest strap is comfortable - I often forget I'm wearing it. I don't know anything about the other brand you mentioned with the GPS. Are the prices comparable? FYI: I know that with my FT60 you can add some type of device (clips on to your shoe I think) that can track your distance if…
  • I'm in the Cinci area too. Good for you with the p90x. My husband does it, and I've tried it with him a few times, but haven't fully committed to it yet. Congrats - great progress so far!
  • I'd been wanting some additional information about this - thanks. I'll be reading later...
  • I eat 5-6 times per day (3 meals and 2 or 3 snacks) and I make sure I have 16 oz each time I eat (or before I eat, which is even better). It's become a habit now, and is just part of my routine. If you require yourself to drink before you eat, you'll be sure to get all the water in, and you're also likely to eat less at…
  • Thanks for these examples!
  • ...I've had a couple of friends whose daughters have also had this happen around 18 months. They've both had to wear a monitor for 24 hours at home, just for the dr to get a general sense of what's going on. And in both cases it turned out nothing was wrong. Pediatric Cardiologists are amazing doctors and will put your…
  • I'd take her to the Cardiologist. I'm sure the Doc who did her tubes/adenoids isn't a heart specialist as well. It often takes a while to get in with a Cardiologist, so just go ahead and get it scheduled. Even if it's nothing (which it probably is), you'll feel better knowing for sure.
  • My HRM (Polar FT60) is generally lower than the elliptical as well. Often it's up to 50 cals lower on a 60min workout. I go with the HRM cals.
  • Thanks for sharing!
  • I recently started using a HRM and found that MFP typically over-estimates calories burned, for me (and I work out at a moderate to high intensity). Even the machines tend to over-estimate compared to my HRM by about 20-40 cals. Again, this is for me - your numbers could be different. Before the HRM, I entered my info on…
  • Thank you for sharing your journey.
  • These are great ideas, especially introducing more healthy options. Others will follow your lead.
  • I recommend getting a HRM with a chest strap. I have a polar FT60 and love it. The chest strap is not uncomfortable (I often forget I have it on). When I first purchased the HRM, I was unsure if it would be worth the expense - but now I can't imagine working out without it!
  • I've been having similar issues...
  • yep - loosening the shoes can help. Sometimes it also helps to start going backwards when you notice your foot "falling asleep," since you then put pressure on different areas of your foot.
  • The numbness is a common problem with using the elliptical. I've experienced it as well, although much less often as I got into a regular exercise routine. At first it was very annoying, but from my research it's nothing medical to worry about. I can't remember all of the technical details, but I seldom experience it…
  • no, didn't get any of the extras yet, but I probably will be investing in them soon (wanted to make sure I liked it first, and I do...). That's one reason I went with the FT60 - because you could add accessories to it like the distance tracker/bike thing. You'll love it!
  • I did a ton of research and got the Polar FT60 as well (same one pictured in previous post). It is pricey, but I LOVE it. I've only had it a couple of weeks, but so far, I feel it has been worth the expense. I was worried that the strap would bother me, but it doesn't and is very easy to use.
  • I'm generally have a protein shake or bar and maybe a piece of fruit, or a fruit smoothie. If you like boiled egg whites, those are another good option.
  • Have you heard of the 'Fly Lady'? She has lots of tips for organizing your life & getting into a routine. As a SAHM, I use some of her ideas and it has helped me a lot! Hang in there! you can do it! www.flylady.net
  • I'm sure this is so hard for you right now - I will be praying for you and your family during this rough time. As for the weight loss - try not to focus on the number on the scale too much (easier said than done, I know...). Look for other positive changes related to your lifestyle like increased energy & clothes that fit…
  • I made the switch to water only a couple of months ago and haven't missed the soda one bit (I drank waaaayyyy too much regular Coke). I expected to still drink tea occasionally, but find that I don't even want that now. The first week was rough, but if you can get past that you'll be ok. Good luck!
