  • Exactly, I think we all have our little variations. Don't forget these rules are man made and as such are not set in concrete. I just eat food that gives me energy and makes me feel good.
  • Basically, I agree that we do seem to be eating similar diets so that is one of the reasons I never understand it when everyone gets upset as soon as the word Paleo is mentioned. I just feel better staying away from grains, especially wheat and I eat minimal dairy.
  • Exactly Paleo is just a healthy, balanced diet. Just call yourselves Paleo and everyone"s happy. :D It is just healthy eating and is nothing to worry about. As for the maths above, eek does my head in. :p The 80/20 principle is an acknowledgment that I am an adult who takes full responsibility for every choice I make but…
  • Sorry, I don't get it. Could you explain? I don't need a label, just something I believe in and that suits me and makes sense to me.
  • This is the Paleo food guide that I follow and what Paleo means to me. I try not to eat wheat or gluten, no pasta or white rice, (can't stand the stuff) but I do eat a little bit of brown rice and oats occasionally. Dairy doesn't seem to worry me so I eat it. In a nutshell, Paleo lifestyle and diet take inspiration and…
  • I agree with Christine, 11lbs is a lot of weight that your poor body does not have to carry around anymore. It an amazing achievement. You should be really proud of yourself as it means you are well and truly on your way to a healthier you. :D
  • I agree, most people claiming to follow Paleo just eat what they like. The lines are fairly vague. However, what most try to do is eat as close to nature as possible in our modern lives and the majority try to avoid wheat. I think if you said you followed a strict Paleolithic diet then it would be different. Perhaps then…
  • FORBIDDEN!! Are you kidding me? Is the God of Paleo going to strike me down? That is so funny. I am so pleased that "they" are more lenient about green beans or else I would really have to hang my head in shame. Paleo introduces so many wonderful new foods into your diet that you really don't miss some of the others. I…
  • As you say, you might not have an eating disorder but it is worthwhile acting now so that you do not develop one in the future. MFP's Facebook page had a recent article called "5 Steps To Break Free From Binge Eating" which might be of use you. If you do not have a FB account I would be happy to paste it for you. There are…
  • Never enter into the caveman conversation as the version of Paleo I follow doesn't entail rubbing two sticks together or eating grubs. Lemur, I love fresh corn and green beans and personally don't see a problem with them. I eat any food in nature that does not worry me. If I eat something and I feel energised then as far…
  • Once you start concentrating on the foods you can eat by following a Paleo diet and then just try to eat as close to nature as possible in our modern society, then it is a breeze. I don't eat wheat and minimal dairy so the Paleo recipes suit me. I personally do not miss bread and I certainly don't miss the stomach aches it…
  • Hopefully, she is off seeking some help for her and the lad. :D
  • I not sure if the ongoing "sugar is or isn't the devil" debate will help in this situation. This boy needs to get his nutrition sorted and he needs qualified professionals to guide him and his family now. And I agree with Christine, it is the added sugars people are talking about.
  • I used to work for weight watchers and saw a lot of meetings and they are mostly female and really are not the right situation for a young man who needs to stand on his own feet and makes his way in life. The conversation was obviously weight related but it was like getting together with the girls for drinks, what young…
  • If he eats a healthy diet, it is not a problem. I looked up children's height and weight charts and he is the height of a 4 year. I really feel mother and child have to be involved to get this 12 year back on track. He has to want to do it and both him and his mother need to be given the knowledge and skills to do it. A…
  • Ok this is how I see it. Both parents have overfed this child and we now have the situation of a 12 yr old who is in extreme danger. Rather than play the blame game, what can be done? First, accept your share of the blame and accept that you can't at this stage alter what the father does. But you can change things your end…

  • I really like how this guy thinks and feel that this thread needs to be bumped. Haven't read much of it but I like what I have read so far.
  • Whole 30 was recommended to my daughter by her doctor when she was trying to establish what her allergies were. It is not a diet but an elimination process. Then you slowly re introduce foods until you find out what you are allergic to. It is used all the time in Allergy Clinics.
  • I use Ayam's canned coconut milk as it has no preservatives. If anyone knows of a better one, I would love to know.
  • Mango smoothie made with 2 eggs and coconut milk. Tasted like ice cream. Breakfast is my favourite meal.
  • Great post duckykissy and I am glad you have found the foods that worry you. :) Yes Wheelhouse, the statistics are high when it comes to diets and that is why it is vital that you find a lifestyle that suits you and is sustainable.
  • If it is any consolation to you, my witchetty grub was cooked and I shut my eyes whilst I was eating it. :p Bush camp with some locals and there is no way I was gonna look like a wimp. Talking about wimps - 10 mins to catch a little bug REALLY!! lol
  • NdJ, no one is saying CICO doesn't work. You are arguing with no one. Liftng4Lis, must admit, once was enough for me but here are some great "bugs" to eat. http://www.taste.com.au/recipes/29853/garlic+butter+moreton+bay+bug+tails+with+garlic+walnut+mayo and what's not to love about steak and vegetables or salad. I happen…
  • So what don't you understand? The sentence makes sense to me - "CICO always works, if you stick with it. Calorie counting is a GIANT pain in the butt so over 90% quit eventually" as for the veganism - yep that is impossible and so most quit. (sorry Prettykitty, I have altered what you said to help him understand)…
  • February is fast approaching Elly, so I hope you have a fridge loaded with fresh, healthy food and are ready to go. I wish you luck as you will love it and you will start to feel amazing. Listen to your body, and if you feel tired, sluggish and unwell after any food, avoid it in the future. Think of food as your fuel and…
  • I love eating fresh food and herbs from my garden. I love going to the markets and buying their produce. I eat fish, chicken, meat, dairy, eggs and experiment with any new vegetable I can. I don't feel deprived on this "fad" diet. This morning I had the avocado smoothie suggested by Jvt. I added mango, banana, pistachios…
  • Thank you Cararyal for your common sense approach. I am looking forward to trying some of the recipes you posted.
  • I think you will find that a lot of people like myself have a problem with wheat and that is what has led them to Paleo in the first place. I have never liked processed foods and so Paleo recipes are perfect for me and my family.
  • Eric, the old woman is delightful. Once you reach 116, as far as I am concerned, you can darn well eat all the cake you want and wash it down with a whiskey if you want to. :D
