Some great advice from everyone. The first thing I do when I get a headache is to drink water as suggested above. I often find that does the trick.

Thank you. Well spotted - my son is a tattoo artist.

Exactly - CICO. I am just gobsmacked to understand how I managed to eat at maintenance for 55 years, never diet, never count calories and then put on weight slowly over the last 5 years once I hit menopause. For some reason I have started to eat above maintenance.

I definitely agree with you Amusedmonk as my own weight gain has been from eating far too much healthy food. Too much of a good thing can be just as damaging to our health as "junk food."

All the above are gone. :)

I am coming into this thread a little late and haven't read it all but I do need to say one thing. Since I have been here I have often come under fire for talking about healthy food and are repeatedly told "there is no such thing as good or bad foods." I do not believe this for one second. I have been thin all my life and…

Extract from the article. Now, I'm sure there will be lots of people chime in to say "I was X amount, and now I'm Y amount and have been for so many years." That's fine. What the article is starting is that through studies they found that is exceptionally rare. That the GREAT MAJORITY of people who were obese, then lost…

Such a wealth of experience, knowledge and understanding of lifestyles in all the above posts. You humble me with all your determination to succeed despite numerous obstacles. I think that is what the young people on the main forum don't understand. They have healthy, fit bodies and are at the stage of life where energy…

Amazing how many people suffer from this problem. I feel sorry for you as I remember how painful it was for my daughter. Kelly, be careful with Hydrocortisone as I understand it is extremely damaging to the skin and should be used rarely. My friend has very bad eczema and the cortisone has damaged her hands to the extent…

Yes I agree that for anyone with this problem, a trip to the doctor would be advisable. Hopefully, things have progressed over the past 25 years because I had absolutely no success with doctors when my daughter was having trouble with hives and welts at the time. It was her asthmatic aunt who told me my daughter was…

Yes I think you will find Faithful, Caitwn and Laur357 are correct. "Cholinergic Urticaria is a medical term used to describe a subcategory of physical urticaria (hives). It is characterized by a hypersensitive response in the skin as a result of the body increasing in temperature (passively or actively), or the…

Christine, I like the way you think. :) OP, the best way for you to see for yourself is to not drink it and see how you feel after at least a month. I think you will find that you will not miss it after a while and then wonder why you ever drank it in the first place.

And so was this recipe. Nothing to do with diet soda but yummy. :) Banana-Sweetened Bran Muffins Ingredients •1/2 teaspoon cooking oil •1 2/3 cups bran (wheat or oat, about 97 grams) •2 teaspoons baking powder •1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon •3 medium very ripe bananas, mashed (about 376 grams total with skin on) •1/2 cup…

Not sure if this of any help or not but when my daughter was little she suffered badly from hives and huge welts all over her body. She is asthmatic and has various food allergies and we tried various doctors and specialists to solve the problem, all at great expense, I might add, and all totally useless. One day, my aunt…

I personally think you have got this one worked out so go and enjoy your night out.

The following article was in my inbox today. I heavily edited it so as not to bore you too much and hope that maybe one of the ideas will jump out at you and help in some way. Getting started is the hardest part and I don't care what anyone says, getting rid of sugar, salt and carb cravings is a great way to work towards…

Welcome to all the new people. I am fairly new as well but think the people here are great. :)

I am so impressed that you get to the gym 4 days a week and weight lift. I know I should be doing something like that but you know ummm "can never find the time." It is so important to keep active and keep strength in your muscles and at 65 I think you are doing an amazing job. Are you retired or still working lulu?
-
Sounds like you had a great morning. Good for you.

'"Most of us cannot spend our entire day exercising." How true is that!! I love it when I do start a mini exercise regime and love the way it makes me feel (once the initial pain has passed) but I never sustain it. My work life is busy and at the end of each day the last thing I think about is going to the gym or working…

I definitely agree with you when it comes to sugar. Once I start I cannot stop eating the stuff and I am not a person who lacks self control. It is like a demon takes over.lol

I was one of those people. Ate my way through life and then two factors changed all that, or at least I believe that to be the care. One was a serious virus which slowed me down for a year or so and then 10 years later, menopause.

I had a little chuckle as I was reading the above posts. Some of these are major victories and even the small victories make my heart sing. :)

It is certainly a little bit of an eye opener when you start measuring as you begin to see exactly where you are over eating. It is time consuming at the moment but slowly I am building up a data base and I can see how eventually it will be become a lot easier. And I have DEFINITELY been overeating and am working out ways…
-
Thanks for the encouragement everyone. I am off to a great start and feel I have the right mental attitude to do this. I bought some measuring cups yesterday and the scales are out on the bench so I am ready to go. :)
-
Exactly!! I think panic sets in. :)
-
I never buy pants with side pockets and I go more for slimmer leg, ankle length type.
-
Oh Sabine, that is so sad!! You are such a good person - well obviously a good person gone bad. I'm in shock and annoyed I missed all the fun. :D

Wow that is one scary story and a reminder to us all just how precious life is. Thank goodness you were as healthy as you were or you probably would not have survived. Stress however does an awful lot of damage and it sounds as though you lead an extremely stressful life and it was wise to "drop back to one job" as those…
