I second the goblet squats. I do them on the Workout B days--my knees can't handle barbell squats 3x a week. The goblet version isn't exactly like the barbell squat--because it's a front squat--but I still feel like it's "working" IYKWIM.

Holy fck, Sare! Yummy weekend! I'm making the potato skins for tomorrow.

Friday-4 very stiff vodka/Frescas...alone while I trolled MFP and Kel played darts with the neighbor. Saturday--3 very stiff vodka/Frescas whilst on the way to my parents...then 2 glasses of wine. I don't really like my sister, so I usually get drunk to deal with her. Sunday--2 red bull/vodkas so far. We're stuck inside…

Julie, breathe...in.............out.............in.............out......... Okay, it could be your muscles retaining water because they're repairing themselves. It could be water retention due to something else. Unless you ate 7,000 cals over your TDEE in a couple of days, IT'S NOT FAT! I'm not yelling, btw, the caps were…

Amazing!! Thanks for sharing the story...and especially the pics!

Hi OP, sorry you're frustrated. I HIGHLY recommend this group: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/10118-eat-train-progress Sarah and SideSteel are very knowledgable about nutrition, fitness, etc. and are very willing to help steer you in the right direction.

Ugh, we're in a blizzard warning so I'm staying home instead of heading to the gym. Graelwyn, girl...you crazy! I am impressed that you even attempted a workout after lifting.

For being a member here of just a whopping month, I'm not surprised that you have some misconceptions about what MFP has to offer. In fact, MFP is a GREAT place to find other women that train heavy--a previous poster linked a few threads that were started in that last COUPLE OF DAYS that focused on women who lift heavy.…

Serial posting because my husband is throwing darts down the street and I'm drinking alone... I had an NSV today!! I rec center that I usually don't go to is newer and has these...um...clampy-thingys for the end of the bar Oh, they're spring collars. Anyway, the last time I was there...about a month ago, I needed to use…

Mmmm. Cupcake. Julie, it took me forfrellingever to get to where I am. Seriously. I used to lift in high school and college, and for a couple years out of college, then I just got burned out. So, I turned my sights towards soccer and was playing 5 days a week for several years. Two husbands, two kids, and several surgeries…

edited because I sounded uber-b!tchy. There are a bajillion women on here who lift heavy and love it. So, yeah. There's that.

I'm too fcking lazy to search for shoes on my own, so I took a peek at the two you linked. I really like the first pair...in fact, I might order myself a pair! Personally, I would go with black, but I'm weird about colors, and I think you can't go wrong with black.

As far as DVDs go, I've really liked the Baron Baptiste and Rodney Yee ones. I started getting Yoga Journal a couple years ago--my school was doing a magazine fundraiser and it was cheap--and through there I discovered yogaglo.com . I tried a 15 day trial and I was hooked--it's $18 a month and you have access to a…

I think I've been able to up my squats. OHP, and bench because of yoga...my core is so much stronger. As you know from my mind-vomits on the SL board, that I love it so much. I feel better after tough lifting sessions, and I think my squats are better because I'm able to get *kitten* to grass. Also, I "teach" yoga during…

I finally made it to the gym today...it was the rec center by my school , and I hate lifting there, but whatevs. Squat: 3x5 at 110 PR, b!tches!!!!!!! It was tough, but I did it. I actually set the catch bars so if I needed to bail, I could. Bench: 3x5 at 88 another PR!! Holy *kitten*...I thought I was going to have to roll…

Kate...ohhhh myyyyyyy! Conferences were mellow, thank goodness. They're student led, so it's an open house format. I had a couple shots of Tuaca and went to bed.

Darwin, I'm so happy for you...for the wedding and the BAMF deads. Mixed grip is like a miracle, huh? Tree, where are you trying to stretch your hip? Inner? Outer? Crescent lunch is good for hip flexor and you can adjust the depth of your knee bend...you can drop your pelvis towards the floor and get a good deep stretch. I…

There's actually an entry for homemade stock...chicken, at least so I use that. For my homemade veggie stock, I just use the Kitchen Basics entry. I'm sure it's off a bit, but not enough to matter. Not sure about the almond milk though...

I seriously love this board. Carry on. I'm at conferences. Bor. ing.

Ugh, Mama Lush, I'm so sorry that she's being such a B. No one should be that miserable at their job. I have conferences tonight, so I know I'll have a couple when I get home. I had a vodka, lemonade, lime juice last night. It was very summery amidst the snow we had.
-
Julie, you're good, chica, vent away. Here's what helped me with some lifts... OHP: widen the grip on the bar a bit, widen your stance a bit, and point your toes out. That helped my core stability without needing to arch my back. Bench: keep your feet flat on the ground--if you can't do that because the bench is too high,…

I'm about to get all bendy up in here...my *kitten* is a bit sore from deadlifts yesterday.

Speaking of heybales' spreadsheet, does anyone have the link handy? I'm tracking stuff in my MFP blog, but it would be nice to have it all here. I'm thinking about switching up my cals and just eating the same-ish every day. Switching cals according to what I'm doing is a pain in the *kitten*.

I really liked Phase 1 of New Rules, but after that, I needed to carry the book around to remember the lifts and progressions. So, I like SL for its simplicity and it really works!

Oh. Mi. Gawd. The gym was so packed today, it was crazy! We're set to get a substantial amount of snow tonight so I think everyone was trying to get their pump on before the snow piled up. Tonight's total... Goblet Squat: 3x8 50 lb OHP: 3x5 58 (My goal was to hit 60 this month...so it's happening!) Dead: 1x5 140 I was…

PROGRESS!! Congrats! Feels bad *kitten*, huh?

What Tameko, Vegas, and Tree said... I love lifting...and I've been lifting off and on since high school (I graduated in 1991, so...yeah) and for a while, I fell out of love with it. I dabbled in swimming, biking, yoga, kickboxing, zumba, hip hop, etc. What it comes down to is finding something you love and are able to…
