I think most of us do a couple of sets at lighter weights before the work sets. For example, when it squat, I do a set of 5 with just the bar, then a set of 5 at 80% of my workset, then my sets.

*raises hand* I've upped my lifting day cals to 2100 after "talking" to Dan and I killed 130 lb deadlifts yesterday...only 5 lbs from body weight and it felt...dare I say...easy.

One thing that helped me with OHP was to widen my stance, keep my toes pointed out a bit, and to widen my grip as well.

Darwin, you look amazing! Vette, I second Tameko...I'd hate for you to eff up your back even more. So, today I killed 55 lb OHP 5x5 and 1x5 deads at 130. I feel like such a BAMF right now. Lol.
