I agree very much with this post. Planning ahead will be your friend, especially when people start bringing in treats (nurses love to feed others). Almonds and some of the things suggested in the post will help you feel full longer and won't leave you sluggish. And you will save money by not eating in the cafeteria during…

Thank you. I just FINALLY completed W3 and it was a struggle. I haven't given up, but I have noticed that I am not following the program like I was and my runs have gotten less and less (I realized I was just finding other ways to be active). My last day of week 3 I was actually able to do an incline and pick up the pace…

It's a little late, but good luck on the NCLEX! I hope it went great and that you are getting back some sanity that nursing school/NCLEX take away! lol.

You can do it! I work nights as an RN, can't say I always do that great on eating better or exercising. One thing I do is to exercise whenever I go to the bathroom (quick few minutes of some squats or something like that)...which if I was drinking water like I sometimes do, that should be no problem! :) don't give up, it…

I start running around 3.8mph and 4.0 is too fast for me to walk, I would have to run at that point. I don't think my legs can go much faster than 6.0, I would definitely look like a squirrel on espresso, if I was able to even go that fast. I also go slow, at my first 5k (that I ran, I have walked others) I got passed by a…

I don't know your set up at work, but if I don't leave cash at home, I fall to the calling of the vending machines (they are like 10 ft. behind me and still have 50 cent cans of pop). I also bring my own meal and snacks. I work 6p to 6a so I generally eat before I go at around 3 or 4, have dinner around 8 or 9 (depending…

Welcome! The boards end just like nursing school did. I am curious to find out if you have taken them yet and how things are going. I graduated just over a year ago and next month will be at my job for a year. Been an interesting year. I've done the yo-yo thing with my weight (I could blame it on working nights but I…

If you were in my area you could get off nights! I also work at a critical access hospital and we have a days position open :) I love the ideas posted. Exercising in any way you can (I am still working up the bravery to exercise in front of others at work so I do some pushups, squats and that type of thing everytime I go…

Since I get off at 6, I am personally afraid to drink caffeine after 3 for worry that I won't be able to sleep when I get home. Main tip I have is to drink as much water as you can. Start with making a deal with yourself that you will drink a water bottle of water before you have any caffeine and phase out the pop. I would…

My family and I love geocaching! Great family activity that gets us outside and active! And it is always great for stories! Welcome!

Hi! Welcome to the group! We can motivate each other! :)

I am so sorry that work has gotten so stressful. I like what one person said that nursing is stressful enough without extra drama. I hope things have gotten better since then or else I hope that you found somewhere that you enjoy working and enjoy the people you work with!

Hi Daisy! I am glad to lend any encouragement and support that I can! Welcome and congrats on your 10lb loss! :) Crystal

I agree with alot that has been said above. The families yelling at the nurses depends some on the nurse (if a family doesn't perceive the nurse as caring then they may get even more upset than the stressful situation had already brought on), depends on the family (some families just are like that), but mostly depends on…

I can definately relate. When I feel stressed at work, I would think "I NEED a pop/candy" because I was busy and stressed, almost like I deserved it. So, no more bringing money in to work (I have vending machines 10ft behind me that beckon to me all night long). That way I can't tell myself that I need it just because we…

Hi all! I don't know if I introduced myself or not. I'm Crystal, I'm an RN living in Kansas with 2 kids, a hubby, and 2 cats (sadly, no dogs anymore). I love that there is this group for encouragement! Feel free to add me as a friend and I will do my best to encourage you back!

You can also get vouversion Bible app for android too. I love the app and thank you so much for the reading plan idea! I have been trying to find a reading plan since recently finishing my last one and I think I will check this one out!

Hi! I am Crystal and also new to the group! I am a mom of 2, wife, registered nurse, and youth sponsor (and also currently cat lady until I get a puppy...lol). I work nights and was already struggling with my weight so I am glad to find a group of ladies like this for encouragement! I agree that community is important with…

Feel free to add me! I am always open to having more nurse friends and encouraging people to help me keep my weight in reign while working nights!

Nurses love to feed others which is bad for night shift. :) In fact, in nursing school it was kind of the unwritten rule that you take the nurses some goodies on your last day of clinicals (sorry to all those nurses that I caused nutrition problems).

Hey everyone! I am an RN in the rural network at a little critical access hospital in Kansas so I guess I would say that I mainly do Med Surg and ER where I work. :)

I agree that alot of it is probably what you are eating or habits like straw drinking or eating too fast. It could also be in medicines or supplements that you take. Aim for more water and exercise like walking when you feel bloated.

I definately hear ya on the battle for not enough hours for sleep, eating, family time, and working out on days I work. I am not sure it is right or not, but I try and cut myself some slack on working days. But I don't become stagnant...I do quick workouts whenever I go to the bathroom (and if I was drinking enough water…

Hi all! I am a new RN since May 2012 and I work 3-4 12's/wk (6p-6a) at a critical access hospital. I am trying to be more active in life and am so happy that I finally found a friend to workout with that is as motivated as I am! Although between trying to schedule a workout, the weather (I live in the midwest and am wimpy…

I'm working part of this weekend. Last night on for this weekend.

I was so excited to find a geocaching group on here! My family and I really enjoy spending time together geocaching, although I would love to do some of the ones mentioned that need a canoe! :)

Sometimes, yeah, I do feel guilty. I guess I feel that if I ate all my calories for that day, I could have done a little better and stayed under my calories more to help myself even more. :)

The research that I have seen is those that allow themselves a cheat time once in a while stick to their goals better than those that strictly adhear to the guidelines. Some people may need to be very strict with themselves but for me personally, I tend to need an allowed time to cheat to not feel like I am reigned in too…

Hi everyone! I am a new RN, just graduated in May 2012 working nights at a critical access hospital. The only tricks I have developed so far are trying to stay active (we aren't the busiest place around...lol). Since I am not yet comfortable enough with my coworkers to do exercises in front of them, I do simple things…
