  • Eat as much fresh and unprocessed foods as you can. lean meats, veggies, fruits. Stir fry veggies, drop in a meat, add a sauce of your choice. Make enough for a couple meals. Steam veggies in the microwave. Get a microwave steamer, in 6 minutes you can have perfectly steamed fresh veggies.
  • The OP is trying to cut, he's at a healthy weight. He's going for a 6 pack. Much of the normal weight loss advice doesn't apply. Thinking about puking to cut weight is never healthy. As has been said by others you should talk to someone about that.
  • I second the couch to 5k idea. If your already fit or have running experience you can accelerate the schedule but I think a couch to 5k plan can get nearly anyone running 5k. 1. Step One start running 2. There is no step two "If you run, you are a runner. It doesn't matter how fast or how far. It doesn't matter if today is…
  • Well a brisk walk puts 3 miles at 45 minutes, 15 minute miles. I think a respectable pace is 10 min. miles or a 30 minute race. That's my goal to get sub 30 minute times and then move up to 10k. The winner will probably be under 15 minutes or 5 minute miles. I started running last fall and my best 5k I was at 36 minutes. I…
  • Why do you want to run in a race? If your looking for people to run with check for local clubs or groups, most are free. Most running stores sponsor clubs or events. In Michigan there are multiple races most weekends. Most races are fund racers whether for a cause or profit. Some races provide an official time, some…
  • That's a lot of expensive processed food.

  • All of these calculators are based on estimates of estimates based on formulas arrived at by averages. What is most important is that whatever you do, you do consistently. Otherwise you won't know what to change when you don't get the results your expecting. If your eating back your exercise calories and not losing weight…
  • The hot topic lately has been if your not losing weight your not eating enough. It's interesting that was the first thing suggested in this thread and then suggested several more times. You may not be eating enough but lots of questions need to be asked before you jump to that conclusion. None of us got to being overweight…
  • Under cardio is a strength training option. Though calculating calories burned while lifting is very difficult. It all depends on weight, intensity, how fast your doing it. Lifting does not burn near as much while your doing it as cardio does but its the gift that keeps on giving. Muscle burns more energy to rebuild and…
  • This I'd rather spread my calories out, like eat 100 more per day than eat an extra 700 in one meal. once a week. If I know I'm going to eat something big for supper then I eat very little else that day. It comes down to what works for you. No matter what you do honestly log it. If your not losing like you want/expect you…

  • It's not like they are some chemically synthesized lab grown substance. It's the ground up root of a plant. While they have little to no nutritional value neither does celery and nobody thinks that's weird.
  • I like them. They are not noodles but I think they are a good filler. It seems people either love them or hate them. You need to rinse them good then cook them, I prefer to dry fry them. Then you need to cook them with whatever your going to eat them with. Like stir fry on the stove or cook them in the oven with a sauce.…
  • Signing up and paying for a race gives you a goal to be ready to run a 5k by. There is no better motivation to get started training than to have a date you have to be ready by.
  • Relax and take a deep breath. Your in it for the long haul. This excitement your feeling will wear off when the easy pounds stop dropping. You will not likely see 5lbs lost in a week very often unless you have a lot to lose. I'm going to quote from another thread.

  • Wrong, maybe a particular routine you can't do but then sub in some other exercise or do a different routine. There are lots of routines out there that only use bodyweight with little to no equipment. You can go a long ways doing body weight exercise. If your looking for cheap equipment check out the local thrift shops and…
  • This sounded so good I just went and tried it. It is excellent. I only had 2 baby carrots left, gonna get me a 2 lb bag tomorrow. Edit: FYI I googled it and what I found said 2 cups of yogurt to one packet of ranch.
  • That's it, your doc said try juicing with no other guidance or direction? I think you need a new doc.
  • Folks he's only trying to lose 15 lbs. Your not going to convince him that overtraining to a large calorie deficit isn't the way to get there. He will likely lose that much before he plateaus or stalls doing it the way he is doing it. He likely won't have to worry about loose skin because he isn't trying to lose a lot of…
  • 8 years ago I went from 2 liters a day to none. It was the only way I could kick the habit. I have never been able to drink diet so that wasn't an option. My wife struggles constantly with trying to wean herself off but has no success. 5 months ago when I started my healthy lifestyle I cut back on liquid calories except…
  • Most people think that dieting means starving yourself and the less you eat the better your "diet" is going. Therefore if he can prevent you from eating anything he thinks he is helping.
  • If your look at it as a calorie deficit per week instead of per day this would work. Though I'm curious about the relatives having their 2 low cal days back to back. That seems unusual to me. Where I see it going wrong is in eat as much as you want the 5 days. I know you say your not doing that. I'd rather eat till full…
  • We have no idea what your eating now to tell you whether or not you should eat more or less of it. Many will tell you that a calorie is a calorie and "calories in < calories out = weight loss". Eating junk food doesn't work for me. I can eat a whole bag of chips (not the single serving size, the big bag) and still be…
  • You realize you can change your daily goal to anything you want, right? You don't have to accept the calculattions that MFP makes for you. You can change it to whatever you want.
  • In my experience whey that is made up of mostly whey isolate tastes much better. By what your describing it sounds like the cheap protein powder is the culprit. Have you tried simply mixing it with water or milk per the directions on the container? If you can't stand the taste of it that way your probably not going to like…
  • Don't try to do it all day one. Start by logging everything. Then adjust from there. Make changes you can live with long term. You didn't gain the weight in a month your not going to lose it in a month.
  • You've got some good advice and some bad in this thread. It's up to you to sift out what you can use and what works for you. You lost 4 lbs in less than a month. Then you were up 2 lbs probably due to water weight because of poor eating over a couple days. 2lbs is 7000 calories? Did you mis estimate your calories by 7000…
  • What studies? What defines intermittent fasting? You've been doing this 3 days and you want to declare it the way to go? You know it keeps muscle from personal experience? You know it's made you healthier? I don't believe that you have to remind yourself to eat. To the OP you have to do what works for you and not get…
