You definately want one with a chest strap. The wrist only ones aren't very accurate. If you have a smart phone and you carry it on your run anyway then I second the recomendation for a bluetooth chest strap. I use a Zephyr HXM. I use http://www.sportstracklive.com and it even has the option to send my workout to the…

Ran an 8 1/2 minute mile, my personal best. That was after ice skating with the kids earlier today and then right before I ran it I played racquetball for 45 minutes. I didn't have time to run my normal 3 miles so I pushed it for 1.

Almost victories to everyone. I can now run for 5k without walking.

Weight loss is 100% diet. You can't out exercise a bad diet

This is usually more in the 130 range but it does depend on what mixes you use. I don't know what mix would get it down to 50 cal. This is real cake, it's less calories than a slice of cake because it's a smaller portion. It's great because you can make one serving at a time. When I have enough calories I often make a…

The electrical resistance ones can be inaccurate. Try a couple times and see what you get. They can be influenced by your level of hydration and other factors,

Jump starts, cleanses, crash diets may provide an initial drop but it won't be a healthy drop. Very low calorie diets burn muscle as well as fat. You'll end up losing more muscle than you would doing it more sensibly. So when you stop your low cal jumpstart you'll likely gain it all back as fast as you lost it and it will…

When you have a lot to lose larger deficits are ok. When you get closer to goal or a healthy weight the right deficit becomes more important. To large of a deficit will cause your metabolism to slow down and your body to burn more muscle while trying to store fat. Then when you go back to normal eating your body is still…

calories in < calories out = weight loss Weight loss is 100% diet. Exercise can help on the calories out side of the equation but you can't out exercise a bad diet. I'm not saying go crazy low calorie, use the MFP calculator or one of many out there and set a calorie goal. Make sure you understand what it means. Some…

Weight loss is 100% diet. Are you tracking what you eat? Calories in < calories out = weight loss Exercise helps on the calories out side of the equation but you can't out exercise a bad diet.

There is a significant difference between skipping meals and ending the day way under your calorie goal and intermittent fasting in which you still eat your daily allotment just in a smaller time frame. IF doesn't work for me and I'm skeptical about the theory's behind it but I don't see anything "wrong" with it unlike…

Seriously? How did you get overweight if you can't find enough calories to eat healthy? Ditch the shakes and eat rule food, Healthy food.

I go to a boot camp class that's about 1/3 guys. I think it depends on the gym and the class. You want to see more guys in class go check out crossfit.

It is a prediction based on your last logged weight and today's calories what you would weigh in 5 weeks if you were to log the same food and exercise you did today every day for the next 5 weeks. It's nothing more than an interesting number. I once tracked mine over 5 weeks and I was actually lower than the prediction.…

Wrong Read the "New Rules of Lifting for life", this book was written for men over 40. Also look at starting strength or stronglifts. All of these programs have you starting with an empty bar or no bar at all until you get your form down. Then you progress by adding small amounts of weight. Kind of like couch to 5k for…

Weight loss is not linear. Sometimes you will see big drops remember these because you will have weeks where you don't lose and you may even gain with no reasonable explanation. Like you stayed under your calorie goal and you did your usual exercise and no loss or even a gain. That is very discouraging when it happens.…

Unrealistic goals sets up a lot of people for failure. Eat less, move more is the key. There is no magic pill, No secret plan. No "Special" diet. No tips, clues, or hints that we can share more than this.

Except for certain exceptions you can't build muscle with a calorie deficit. The body is either burning or building, it doesn't do both at the same time. This is why body builders bulk and cut. While bulking they are building muscle but also adding fat. When they have added the amount of muscle they want they then cut to…

Grapples are good and were priced similar to other expensive apples when I tried them. I've been looking for different colored carrots, I've seen pictures of them but not seen them for sale. Edit:

It's funny but I don't think most people cheap out on certain things. Like Coke or Dorrito's, they buy the brand name, they have to have it even if there is a similar product for half the price. But when it comes to meat or a can of green beans they buy the cheapest choice available.

Lot of protein for the number of calories. Less sugar, less carbs, less sodium, more calcium, and fat content isn't so bad if you stick to the lowfat or no fat versions. Edit: I'm not trying to convince you to eat it. There is to much good food to eat things you don't like, if you don't like it don't eat it.
-
Less fat = more meat, most people view the fat as waste. Edit: There is also a perception that less fat = healthier/better therefore they charge a premium for it because people will pay it.
-
I think it costs less to eat healthy. Cut out the $4 for the 12 pack of coke, $3.50 for a bag of Doritos, $2.99 for Twinkies. Spend that money on fruits and veggies. Low fat versions of dairy products are usually the same price. Buying lean meats on sale is cheaper than frozen meals.

One of the things that kills motivation is unrealistic goals. There are 17 weeks till June and 21 weeks till July. Lots of people have replied they want to lose 50 lbs by then. If you have a lot to lose those might be reasonable goals. If 50 lbs lost puts you at a healthy/normal weight then it's going to be tough. The…
