  • The simple fact is that you look exactly as you should! I'm at about the same weight, tho I'm 5' 9". According to height/weight charts, I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be, but many people who knew me when I was 55 lbs heavier tell me I'm going to dry up & blow away, etc. But I know, and you should too, that the reality…
  • Simply put - when comparing VOLUME, muscle weighs 9x as much as fat does. So, you can lose 9 cubic inches of fat and build 1 cubic inch of muscle without a weight change on the scale. Obviously, you will still be losing body fat and inches off your measurements, so you will look (and probably feel) better in doing so. Even…
  • The time I remember feeling most humiliated - I saw a picture of a small group of us (3 or 4), taken at a theme park (don't remember which one). We were sitting on a bench, I was on the left. I was wearing a button-up shirt, and it was stretched so tight that the space between the buttons was stretched open, revealing a…
  • I must agree. I drink diet soda quite a bit, with no apparent ill effects. To my understanding, the big "problem" associated with diet soda (or anything artificially sweetened) is that it supposedly makes you crave sweets. It has no such effect on me; that's not to say it can't or doesn't have negative effects on others.…
  • Eating well at the movies is like eating well out of a vending machine - extremely difficult and at times impossible. If I think I'm going to want a snack, I will smuggle in a Nature Valley Protien Bar, specifically the Peanut Butter Dark Chocolate. It best suits my dietary needs. And of course, diet soda there is the same…
  • Ok, so you've binged a bit today. What's done is done; forget about it, forgive yourself and get back on track. You can't change what's already happened, but you certainly can control what you next put into your mouth - so do it!

  • It's worth getting the scale, even if just to measure meats. You need to find out how much 4 oz, for example, really looks like. We tend to under-estimate (and thus over-eat) the actual weight of foods.
  • Well, I don't have a problem staying under on my sugars (and carbs, ususally). However, I am diabetic, and make it a point to avoid sugar in all forms as much as possible. I still get some sugars (23 grams of 42 allowed today), but I stay under. In return, I almost always go over in Protein, and often over in fiber and…
  • I like the Apple - (Grilled) Chicken - Cranberry salad, with your dressing of choice. I get the Apple Balsamic Vinagrette. Most of the carbs are in the dried (and possibly sweetened) cranberries, which you can pick out if you don't want them. I am Diabetic, and I find that I tolerate this salad & dressing pretty well, with…
  • Well, here's my sad story, lol. I was 48 years old, 5' 9" and weighed about 210 lbs. I knew I was "a little" over-weight (obese? not me....:grumble: ); I had high blood pressure, but it was well-controlled with medication. I'm married, so not out chasing women, don't need to look good, right? In July 2012 I took a routine,…
  • Charelg, I will join you for lent, or for as long as you like. I'm diabetic, and have given sugar, cake, pie, etc. up for good. Don't feel too deprived if you can't have it for just 40 days. In other words, YOU GO GIRL! You can do it!
