The placebo would not do the same thing. The surgical part of my gastric bypass program works in two ways, first through restricting the amount of food that I can eat and second changing the amount of calories that I can absorb from the food that I eat. The program part of my Gastric bypass program coaches me to change my…

I never mentioned or advocated Lap Band surgery, i had the RNY Gastric Bypass.

No program that I have heard of is just offering the surgery alone. Mine is offered as a part of a larger program that involves therapy, nutritional counselling, support groups, exercise and regular contact with medical professionals.

The Lazy route??? Who do you think you are calling my hard work the Lazy route? I have never worked so hard in my life and my success shows. After 30 years of yo-yo dieting I have found something that works for me. Anyone that calls it the "lazy" route is a judgmental ignorant fool that does not understand the whole…

I did not say that 20% had serious complications. Many have minor complications that require tweaking of diet or vitamins. The important thing is that the risk is lower than remaining morbidly obese.

I had the RNY Gastric Bypass surgery on December 5th of last year and have done very well with it. As part of the program I met with counselors, nutritionists and several other medical specialist doctors. The program looked at the big picture and not just the surgery part. The ongoing care and support from my team of…

Joyzy, As a fellow spinal cord injury survivor I was encouraged by your post and by your success. I too suffered a similar injury to yours back in 1986 after falling 40 feet out of a tree. I however chose to wait 29 years to follow my doctor's suggestion and lose weight and get healthy. In hindsight I look back on 29 years…

I am a beginning cyclist. I ride twice per day now but up until six weeks ago had not owned a bike for 30 years.

I started back in August of 2012 and lost six pounds in the first week. These days I am happy with 1-2 pounds per week. I exercise every day. I started out walking for 1-1.5 hours per day and now I ride my bicycle 10-20 miles per day.

I find your response to my post to be rude. I was trying tell about what helps me when I do not see the scale move. Dont be such a judgmental person. I come here for positive reenforcement.

Fried seafood platter. Clams, Scallops, shrimp, haddock fries and onion rings. An extra order of tarter sauce. Miss it, but not enough to suffer it's ill effects right now.

When I fall off the wagon I rededicate myself by writing up a plan of what I want and what I need to do to get there. I then sign it and put it on the fridge. It is kind of like a contract with myself. Writing it down for me helps reinforce my commitment and solidify my plan.

There is no such thing as free energy, If you are truly operating at a calorie deficit than you are burning fat. Try measuring yourself on your Friday weigh in days to see your loss. The scale is not the only scorekeeper. Eventually, if you are doing what you are supposed to be doing, the scale will catch up.

You are not doing anything wrong, keep doing what you are doing. I believe in being considerate to others under normal circumstances but not in tip-toeing through life to placate somebody's quirks.

In trying to pass a security checkpoint in a secure data center that I had not been to in a couple of months, the biometric hand reader would not recognize my hand because I have lost so much weight that my hand is smaller.

I have lost 94 pounds in 8 months and I keep having to do a double-take ever time I pass a mirror. Being morbidly obese most of my life, I still feel like the fat guy in the room. It surprises me when I learn people I consider about normal weight weigh more than I do. It is hard to visualize where my current body size fits…
