  • I'm really slow too. Once I started running vs. a run/walk- I was doing a 15 (something) minute pace. I've been doing a program through Fleet Fleet & cycled through the beginner's program multiple times. I'm now at a 13ish min mile pace which is still slow (but faster for me). My goal eventually is to be in at 12ish min…
  • I like Isa Chandra Moskowitz's cookbooks. Appetite for Reduction is my favorite. She also has recipes on her website: www.theppk.com
  • Have you tried a run/walk? You might consider joining a beginner's group- I joined one through Fleet Feet. Also, my girlfriends & I will incorporate something 'fun' into our walk or run (ex. running down to the shopping center & taking a little shopping break midway).
  • Do you like the taste of one over the other? I agree with the 30 calorie Almond Milk- if mixed with your shakes/smoothies, recipes, etc, you can't go wrong at only 30 calories! Blue Diamond has a 30 calorie Almond Milk too.
  • An one ounce serving of nuts tends to be in the single digits for carbs. I guess my idea of low carbs is different than yours.
  • nuts! They are high in fat too, so in moderation.
  • Whatever you do wear, I would recommend giving it a 'test drive' a time or two beforehand on one of your runs. That way you know there's no issues (and if there is on a test drive, you know to try to something else beforehand).
  • BTW- My pain radiated on my right side from front to back- what I found very comforting was a heat bag I made of rice that I would heat up in the microwave.
  • I feel for you! I went through the same thing 8 years ago. The ER Dr. actually laughed at me & said it was just gas! My (old) Dr. had wanted to remove my gall bladder & I insisted in seeing the gastro dr. first. He was very helpful. Said it was something I was eating that I had a severe intolerance to -which turned out to…
  • You are welcome to add me. :)
  • Hi! If you are looking for a alternative that has a similar taste, texture, melts like cheese, etc., you may want to try Daiya. It's a cheese alternative. The shredded is readily available at stores in the US and Canada (not sure where your are though). They also make a sliced Daiya (a bit harder to find) and a cream…
  • THIS! Also, inserts if recommended- I noticed a big difference with the last pair I got (no inserts) vs. current pair with inserts. If you have a tough time motivating yourself to get out there, check out your local running store to see if they have a beginner's training program. I did this through Fleet Feet. They'll…
  • I signed up with a training group- it keeps me going because the group meets twice a week and I also need to run on my own to keep up on the days we meet!
  • you can donate them to a food bank or even a family or friend. Since I went from vegetarian to vegan, I just ate them off while I transitioned (my farewell to cheese!)
  • I do 5K's and with a partner- but one with the same pace as me. When she is not available, my daughter tags along. She's much faster than me but will slow down to my pace to keep me company (but she will push me at the end). It just depends if you prefer to run solo or with a buddy too!
  • My hands down favorite vegan & weight loss friendly cook book is "Appetite for Reduction" by Isa Chandra Moskowitz. I could live on the zucchini- black bean-kalamata olive tacos!
  • I am currently using Gabriel Color & ZuZu Luxe for makeup, Nature's Gate for Shampoo/conditioner & Davita for skin products & all are vegan. I am in the process of switching out my shoes to vegan ones (I just need a nice navy pair). I found lots of "man made material shoes in name brands (surprisingly) at DSW and Macy's.
  • It took me 10 weeks but doing a 1min run, 30 second walk interval. After another 10 weeks, built up to a 3 minute run, 30 second walk. I had intended to move to running, but my body really appreciates that 30 second walk! I had to get over that my body just isn't ready for running only & I don't want to risk injury. Still…
  • LOL! I brought hummus w/ veggies to a class potluck once years ago. Everyone stared at it oddly and only the instructor knew what it was! More hummus for us! Now hummus seems to be everywhere! :)
  • THIS regarding the Appetite for Reduction Cookbook. I have made half of the 125 recipes & only have found a couple I haven't liked. Most are pretty filling too. There's also a series of Cookbooks called Happy Herbivore> I have all three but haven't made too many because I can't pry AFR out of my hands! :)
  • Have you considered driving to a nearby park or quieter area? My girlfriends & I drive 20 minutes twice a week to meet up with a running group at a park. It's a much nicer view than a busy road too!
  • Do you like to cook and will you be set up with a kitchen to do so in your new place? There are many great vegan cookbooks & websites with recipes. There are even some that focus on quick & easy meals & cooking in a crockpot too. You may also want to check out if your new college or town have a veggie group.
  • I can see a big difference! :) great job- very motivating for me because I have the DVD, but I realized the DVD player was broken when I went to play 30 day shred! I'm getting a new one though for Mother's Day which is coming right up. I'm excited to start!
  • Does your store have bulk food bins? It is often in there.
  • I am 5-7 (maybe 5-8 if I stop slouching?) and am currently 185 lbs. I wear a 14 or 16. Probably more a 14 since the 16's are currently falling off of me! I am though pear shaped. So, I am sure it depends on body shape too!
  • YES! It is working for me-I joined an exercise group and started run/walking & building up my intervals (more running) and distance as well. I started with 2 min walk/30 second run & now am at 30 second walk/2:30 run. I have completed two 5K's recently and have another this weekend. I am still not at the run only stage…

  • Forks Over Knives has a cookbook too!
  • Do you have a running store near you? if so, you may want to check if they have any training classes. I just finished the No Boundaries program through Fleet Feet. You can train to be a walker, walk/runner (intervals) or runner. They train you for a 5K including proper form. I did the walk/runner trainin and I am cycling…
  • All good advice that has been given. Like said before, most foods have some protein- so it all adds up. If you want something with a big dose of protein- a protein powder (make sure not to do whey powder as it is a milk product), tofu, tempeh (yum!), seitan, beans, nuts. There are also lots of meat substitute products out…
  • Great job! I completed my first 5K too a week and a half ago & have another this Saturday! Doesn't it feel great accomplishing that? It did for me! :)
