Hey Everyone--
So I am running my first half marathon in April (yay) and I am super excited. Running it in Scranton, PA.
I have spent weeks training and being focused on my pace, running style, etc.
But now to the important question-- what do you recommend wearing on race day?
ha ha thanks

Whatever you do wear, I would recommend giving it a 'test drive' a time or two beforehand on one of your runs. That way you know there's no issues (and if there is on a test drive, you know to try to something else beforehand).0

I'm running a half marathon in April too. Consider the weather…not too much! Do you suffer from shin splints? I have recently gotten them & do not like them! I'm icing as we speak…:(0

nothing that you haven't already been training in. don't try new sneakers, new socks, new underwear, nothing new.
start doing some research now. do you like compression clothing, or prefer looser stuff? do you like a thin layer on your legs and bundled up on top? do you start off cold and then warm up? or do you tend to stay pretty cold? do you want to wear a jacket with pockets so that when you do warm up you have a place to store your hat and gloves. do you prefer to run with a hat or with sunglasses?
then race-day refueling. lots of options, but again, don't try anything new on race day. i prefer not to carry anything on my waste, and have this handstrap water bottle that has a little pouch in it. in it i have my keys and a gel pack.
gel packs are not for everyone. i prefer the Cliff ones as opposed to the GU ones. the cliff ones have the consistancy of cake frosting, which is awesome. but you might prefer the jelly beans, or the gummies. go to your local running store and buy some to experiment with.0 -
Whatever you're comfortable wearing while running. Pay attention to the weather. Relatively new is fine, but a race is not the day to try out a brand new outfit or shoes. If the weather is going to warm up dramatically between the time you show up in the parking lot and when you finish running, wear cheap layers that you don't mind tossing out if necessary ... a thrift store sweatshirt, trashbag with holes as rain protection before running, thin cotton gloves that can go in the trash at a water point, etc.0

Thanks
I think where its hard-- is I have been doing a lot of outdoor running right now and its freezing, so what I am wearing now and what I will be wearing in April will be significantly different, but I guess maybe the material of the clothing won't be.
I guess some of it will need to wait until it gets a little closer.
I do need to try the gels coming up soon.
I bought some running shoes that i have been alternating so I wont be trying any new shoes/socks for the race-- just aren't sure about capris/shorts and shirt or tank top.
I did plan a test run of 8 miles the weekend before and my goal is to wear my half outfit that race to see if there were any problems.
i appreciate all of the advice0
