You are about to have an awesome experience. You've done the training, just be exited, be scared, don't worry about not sleeping the night before and have a great time.

Yesterday I ran at less than 7:30 min miles.

Just started with endomondo, seems good.

Interesting indeed. I picked up on their idea that pain can be in the brain. Some times when running I get soreness in the knee, and I found that if I run on the opposite side of the track/road the pain goes away. So now whenever I get sore I just change sides and I'm fine. This is probably because I believe it will be…

Well done great run and well written report. I am thinking of having a go at a marathon but at 65+ I had better do it sooner rather than later.
-
Thanks for the advice. You are right. I will just do this for the fun. I'll aim for 10min/miles for the first 8k then get over the hill as best I can and just enjoy a night run.

I believed last week. My wife and I started this new life two and a half years ago. In the next Eighteen months I went from 306lbs to under 200 and at 6' 2" I was pretty much where I wanted to be. Believe it or not that was the easy bit. Maintainance has been a roller coaster but last week I compared my weight to the same…

Afraid that I am another treadmill hater. I can run two hours out doors at over 7 miles an hour. On the treadmill I find it hard to run at 6MPH for 40 mins. Don't know why but that's what happens. As for the weather I just dress accordingly. Rain, wind snow or even sunshine it makes no difference. If I'm scheduled to run I…

Exactly this, I eat the porridge oats on run days and wheatabix on the others.
-
Nah I tried that, I put down the weights and couldn't get them up off the floor again.
-
I think that if everyone got out of the gym and into the fresh air then everyone would be a happier. Put down those weights and get moving.
-
Well done that's brilliant. you make it sound so good, maybe I'll have to pop over from N Wales and have a go at making Dublin my first Marathon.
-
You can relax. As has been said above, you have done the training, you have run 12 miles so you will do this. I look forward to reading a report next week about how you did. Good luck and have fun.

I started running two years ago at the age of 63. When in training I run between 15 and 20 miles a week in three runs, say two 5s and an 8. I have now run 4 10ks and 4 half marathons I hope to get in a sub 2hr half in the next year.

After moving house I went to a new Park Run Course a hilly 5k trail race. Ran 26:55 not bad for me, I finished 113th out of 250 runners and I placed 3rd in my age group. (OK there were only five of us over 65 but I beat 2 of them).

I love running outdoors, but on occasion, when I have no other option I will run on a treadmill. I do not enjoy it and though I run half marathons outdoors I have never got further than 7 miles inside.

As I understand you become a "master" when you turn 40. Well last night an over 40 won the gold medal in the European championships 10k beating a 23 year old into silver. Well done Jo Pavey.
-
Thanks for this Dave, I suppose I can count myself a "master" as I am 65 years young. I now run, I now race, I am never going to win any prize. But I am over the moon that I can run and no one is going to stop me or put me down. My victories come not by beating others, but by improving my own times and distances. In…

Hmm neither Manziel or Hoyer showed much yet, but a long way to go before the season starts.

In the summer, all of my shorts have built in underwear and for me that's how I run. In the winter I run in running leggings/tights. And I wear underwear under those. I also wear a pair of shorts over the top cause I'm too old (fashioned) to run in very tight apparel!

Our feral cats will appear out of nowhere when they hear any sound that they associate with food in my Outside cooking area. And they will eat anything including, beans, croissants, bread, upto and including cucumbers. One tonight was eating a quite spicy Chilli!

I have watched your journey from afar, for the last eighteen months. Shared your successes and felt for you last year after the bike crash. I watched on line your progress during your Ironman. I saw you finish and was so elated for you. What can I say, Don you are amazing.

Nope but maybe I should, I'm allergic to penicillin.

I've only run halves so far, but I have to confess of thinking most of these thoughts. Obviously not the speedo ones, but there was this guy in a tutu...............

I have just googled Pigeon Pose. There is no way my body will bend into those shapes!!!!!

OK lets see if I got this right. If I run a little say 5 miles I get Huge fitness benefits. any more doesn't do me any harm but I don't gain anymore benefit health wise. Sooo I'll run the 5 miles on Monday for health reasons. Then i'll run the rest of the week just for the hell of it.

I am a 6ft 2, misarable old git. Mainly running in rural France I don't carry anything. My two concerns are 1) French dogs and I have learnt to get my retaliation in first with them. I shout and scream loudly and charge straight at them. I haven't got close enough to one yet to do any more. 2) French hunters, they shoot at…

I'll be OK, I spend hours every day online but as it's MFP I'm logged on to its not a problem!

Ex IT teacher here, I retired a couple of years ago, now losing all that weight I put on through stress eating/drinking and cheap/subsidised school lunches.
