I, too am not a member of a running club, but am thinking about joining one. I suppose you just go on line, find one local to you and turn up to one of their meetings, cheque book in hand. However, is it worth it? We have come this far down the road in our running, is a running club that useful?
-
Hmmm good question. I have done both, I have run in a local club 10k, my first race, and yes the bulk of the race ran off and left me no problem I plodded round and had a ball. I have run in a 10k with 10000 runners, where the first place runners were coming into the finish before my corall started and where I was triping…

My targets for the year were 10k run sub 55 HM run sub 2hr Ultra distance (walking) complete a qualifier for next year's 100 mile race. My first attempt at 10k was in Jan I finished in 51 min then found that the course was short so that didn't count, tried another race in May and got 53:06. My Half was in March and I went…

Wow! Very interesting, I am just now moving from being a racer and becoming a runner. My wife will be upset because I'm now going to have to buy another running book.

I prefer morning running, I will get up an hour before I set off and eat a bowl of cooked oatmeal and a couple of cups of coffee. Then let it settle before the off. Today I was out at 7:30, and ran in nice weather. If I tried to run now, (early evening here in France) I would fry. It is 35deg centigrade out there, (95f). I…

Nope it didn't make me giggle, I nearly wet myself, laughing out loud.

I ran a 10k back in January, that they had to change the course at the last minute because of flooding. When we finished I had 30 seconds of delight at my time which was a PR by over 2 minutes, then reality kicked in when I saw my GPS. The race was a 200 meters short. I had beaten my PR but I can't count it because it was…

Tomorrow, the Bath Half marathon, I was hoping for a new PR, but I have been selling my house and trying to buy a new one. Very stressful which has impacted on my training, and now, for the last week , I have had a sore throat, cough, and cold, you know "man flu", so we'll see.

Ah I'm way too old, I didn't start running till I was well into my 60's. Though I am going to do a sub 2hr half in March.
-
Carbohydrates about an hour before running, As I usually run in the morning, I usually eat a bowl of porridge and that gets me through all distances up to half marathon.
-
Thanks for this advice, I did get a metronome app and went out for a run. Bloody Hell, 180 is very fast. I just couldn't keep it up. I recon I am running at about 150 and for the moment that will have to do. I am over 6ft tall with long legs.

Go to your GP and tell her everything you have put out in this thread, she will get you in touch with counselling quicker than you think.

There is an old saying "If it isn't broke don't fix it". If you have been using MFP since 2011, and what you have been doing is working, then just keep on going as you are.
-
Mental attitude, I want this to work. Therefore it will. Knowledge, I found out how to lose weight. (MFP) Work both sides of the equation, eat better and work out. Don't give up, we all have off days, just get back on the wagon. Set regular achievable targets, so you have milestones to tick off on the way. Well this has…

I think the OP is saying that it is a sort of OCD thing, she has to eliminate certain foods.

Aghh this is driving me nuts! I read this thread, thought that makes sense, and on my last couple of runs have tried to find my cadence. Right, count every left footed strike for a minute and multiply by 2. Simples, except it isn't. I lose track of the count within a few seconds, I run into people because I'm looking at my…

In before the lifters, I have lost over 100lbs in just over 1 year, and I haven't lifted a thing, however I do run 3/4 times a week. My doc tells me I have added 20 years to my life just by doing this. However the lifters will be along in a minute telling you, you must lift heavy!!!

I am running in the same 10k that I ran at the start of my new running life, last January, on Sunday. I was aragantly working out just how fast I was going to run compared to last year. Now the weather forecast for Sunday is that, here in the SW of England, we are about to be hit by the worst storm this century. Complete…

Absolutely brilliant.
-
Yes my speed increased dramatically as I lost weight. But then I did lose over 100 lbs and was able to breath normally again. I am not sure a few pounds here or there make much difference.
-
Wow. That's some streak. I am relatively new to running, but if I ran every day I think I might now be divorced.
-
On Sunday I run the same 10k I ran at the start of my new running life, I am aiming for a sub 55 min.

In Great and timely post

58-62 and I get up to 172 when running hard, long comfortable runs ave out at around 150. At my age quite happy with that.

Tomorrow night is New Year's Eve,I fully intend to "have a few cocktails" and I sure as hell won't feel guilty. I'll be back on the wagon on the first and my journey will continue.
-
Yuk, I agree, everyone should clean every piece of equipment after use, every time. As you put it, I "sweat buckets" so I take my own towel to the gym to wipe down. This is one reason I prefer to run not lift.
