Didn't do too well over Christmas, but coming up on Trollshaws now :)
-
I left the marsh last night. Onwards to Weathertop! I'm struggling a bit now with the timelines in the books. Finding it hard to believe 2 hungry and injured hobbits managed a marathon distance a day for a month, even walking it.,..,

I swam a mile last night. As I'm currently coming up on the marshes, I almost felt I should be able to log it :)

Another Londoner here. I skip in fog or torrential rain. I'd also skip if very icy (but unusual here). Any time my safety might be compromised by visibility. It's just not worth the risk, especially as I'm riding on roads. But my preference is to be out there on the bike!

Finished Bree on Saturday, now 58KM to the marshes... Aiming to have that done by 21st December.
-
1.8 miles to being captured by the Barrow Wight. Running to work tomorrow and a couple of 10K's scheduled next week so aiming to be in Bree by a week Sunday...

I started on the 13th. Should reach the edge of Farmer Maggot's field tonight :) Can't believe it's been a week and I've not left the Shire yet!

I would use the vivofit as that is the one that has access to the most comprehensive dataset about you. Treadmill knows how far you've gone, but doesn't know your weight (unless you tell it) or your stride length. MFP knows your weight and your time spent exercising, but just applies a standard formula based on an…

This is my everyday/communting bike And my folding bike for use as and when I'd love a true roadie, but my husband would go nuts if i get another bike....

Thanks guys. Yikes at the price of the multisport watches though!! >£250 is a little more than I have to spend.... :)

I'm another who gained weight while training for a marathon. I think it reaches a point where the exercise is so intense that the calorie deficit cannot be maintained and if you aren't careful, you end up eating sugary, energy-dense foods just to keep going. I love running, but I'd never offer it as a guaranteed WL…

It happens to me, and when you find a solution, please let me know. I try and tell myself that the copious farts are actually a jet propulsion boost :) I think running just upsets some tummies....

I'm dyspraxic and the benefits I've had from yoga are improved balance and prioperception. This has enabled me to go on and do other exercise like cycling, running, etc. with more confidence in my body.
-
Me too in the beginning. It's why I could never really do aerobics or Zumba, it's too fast and too confusing. But with yoga, if you choose a slower class and speak to the teacher in advance, you can really learn to be in your own body. Simple things like standing for a time in Tadasana are challenging, so by learning those…

I do exercises which enable me to focus on my body and assist with finding alternative routes to build the pathways that dyspraxia makes different. So yoga, pilates, simple throwing/catching type stuff alongside cardio. I find the yoga and pilates have massively improved my balance so that I can do things like ride a bike…

No snow for any of us if we carry on the way we are ipcc.ch/

This is really helpful thank you so much to everyone who's replied. So, went to the docs yesterday, she thinks it's just asthma exacerbation, stress and labyrinthitis. However, she did agree to order the general set of bloods - liver, kidney, thyroid, B12, iron, VitD, etc. So we'll see what comes from that.

I did it in a class with an instructor and absolutely loved it. Doing it with an instructor meant getting the motivation from the group as well as modifiers/adjustments to be able to succeed. I'd definitely recommend doing it that way rather than the DVD's, at least to start with!

This - absolutely this! But if you want to feel in control of walking, and have some positive tips on walking, I'd recommend having a look at Jeff Galloway's method. It has got me through many 10Ks, 10 milers, HM's and a marathon.

I went for a test ride on solid tyres and absolutely hated them, they were really slick and I skidded about everywhere. I've seen a few people recommend Marathons. My tyres are on their way out and I'm thinking about replacing them with marathons or similar. However, tbh, the best advice I've had was just carry an inner…

Jealous! I went on a 20 miler yesterday, but mine was all on busy city roads including a deeply unpleasant dual carriageway underpass. Must be lovely to have such wonderful locations within a drive/ride away :)

Medical attention! You sound like you might benefit from some intravenous fluids. You also need bloods to check kidney function. As first aid, drink a broad electrolyte replacement (dioralyte, etc) but get yourself to a hospital!

I usually put it down as 1000ish for the container - noodles + fat +sugar+ salt . For things like that, where you don't know how it was cooked, I log at around 1-200 calories and ignore it as an over meal.

The thresholds for medication vary. The threshold for medication is considerably lower in the UK than in the US, for example. It is very common for people to be hypothyroid by the definitions of one healthcare system and not for another.

It's a two way thing. Yes, if you are in an accident, a helmet is likely to protect you. However, wearing a helmet may make you more likely to be in an accident.
-
I was just about to link to that article! I particularly like Yes, a helmet might make you safer if you get knocked off. However, it might also, even marginally, increase the chance that this happens in the first place. and The lessons seem clear and worrying. For one thing, no matter which outfit was worn, a small…

Pop a waterproof on his buggy and get out and run! He will love the movement of his buggy and will probably either be looking around or having a nap. So long as he's well wrapped up and dry, he'll be happpy - just bear in mind he will feel the cold more than you as he is stationary.

I am using jelly babies for immediate sugar and pieces of energy bar (Tribe or Nakd) for longer release. I pre-open all my bags and just tuck everything into my bumbag. I've tried the gels, but I either end up dropping them or puking them back up down myself. I start eating at 5K, then allow myself a treat every 5K - I…

I'm up at 6 to leave the house to run to work at 6:45 most mornings. I tell myself it is a priviledge to be outside at that time of the morning, when the birds are waking up and the sun is rising (doesn't always convince me though!)

I would buy a runners GPS and log with that, it will calculate your pace and pick up elevation, etc automatically and work out your calorie burn. It's also great fun - I bought my dad one for walking and he uses it just to track his routes and record fun things like nice pubs, good bird spots etc, on the diary area of the…
