  • Try this locator tool from the C2 website; http://www.concept2.com/indoor-rowers/finder This locator will tell you everyone in your area Concept has sold rowers (erg's, actually). Could be universities, gyms, clubs, etc. Hope you find someone close to you !
  • I purchased a Concept 2 Model B rower for $250 thru CraigsList in Sept of last year and love it. I used it to lose nearly 50 pounds. Concept rowers are generally considered very high quality machines, my rower was built in 1985 and is still going stong. There are a few parts that wear out or stretch (i.e. shock cord to…
  • Welcome to the forum Linda ! We have quite a nice group here; friendly, supportive and a good cross section of veterans and newbies (like myself).
  • Great work Nate, the effort has paid off ! BTW...love the graphic on your weight loss chart...GO HAWGS ! !
  • I moved away from So Cal years ago and let my NAUI / PADI / OW certifications lapse. Been back in San Diego for a few years now and my youngest son is interested in becoming a diver. Lost 50 pounds using MFP to eat better and getting exercise using an indoor rower. Anyone dive La Jolla Cove here in So Cal ?
  • Congratulations, that's incredible. Keep it up and you will at your goal weight before you know it ! !
  • Welcome to the Rowing Forum ! Prices are a bit steep for new machines, but keep an eye out on CraigsList, E-Bay and other similar sites. I picked up a used C2 Model B indoor rower for $250. It has the original monitor, but all the parts that wear had been replaced. I've been using it since Sept 2012 and love it
  • I weigh myself daily, but I don't obsess about the numbers. I also put together a simple chart to track 3 things every day; 1 - the total number of calories I eat and record in MFP, 2 - the total number of calories I burn on my indoor rower and 3 - my weight in the morning. This simple table allows me to quickly see how…
  • There is a rowing forum here on MFP, come join us ! An indoor rower is great, and has helped me drop 38 pounds as of today. It does workout the majority of your body, i.e. legs, back, core abdominal muscles, shoulders and arms. Good technique is essential, though and it's not terribly difficult to learn. During each drive,…
  • Check out an indoor rower, it also works the entire body, easy on the joints and is great for burning calories. There is a forum titled 'Rowing' on MFP, join up and feel free to ask questions of us there. We're happy to help out.
  • Welcome to the group, Choch80 !
  • I can see what you mean, after all the website is hosted by Concept2, but all we (the MFP group) do there is post our meters and use the Challenge to keep us motivated. One of our members is in the UK and his club has RowPerfect machines, not C2's. BTW, I saw that you're in TX. One of our members (MFP user id mcrower) is…
  • Welcome to the MFP Rowing Forum Mike, gbminigirl and BrentDry ! Sorry it's taken so long for someone to respond and say hello to you, as you can see we're a relatively small forum on MFP and don't get new people in very often, but we're excited about rowing and using it to lose weight. A number of us are just now finishing…
  • I know it's not one of the options in your question, but an indoor rower is another excellent piece of equipment for cardio exercises and it's one most people don't consider. They take up very little space, there is virtually no jarring motion on the knees, hips, etc and they work out almost the entire body, e.g. legs on…
  • Put another 15+K meters toward our mini challenge...keep it going !
  • Numbers as of Fri, 10:20PM Pacific; MFP Friends 1.498M meters, Forum 1.652M meters. We can catch them !
  • Put 7k meters in the DONE column towards the 250l mini challenge !
  • Jeff hit the nail on the head with breaking up a long row into smaller sets. I will typically do a quick warm up to make sure everuthing feels right, i.e. the seat, damper, etc and to remind the muscles what I'm about to do, then do 5k at a moderate pace, rest for 15 mins or so, then start another 5k. Let's get to it !
  • fatmanslimmin is on the right track...How are you measuring your BF% ? I have a scale that displays this number for me, but a common complaint is they aren't very accurate due to the variable amount of water in your body at the time, warmth / coldness of your feet, etc. To compensate, I try to adjust by weighing at the…
  • Try an indoor rowing machine ! It's easy to do, uses mainly your legs when you have the form down right, and burns quite a few calories. It's a great workout for legs, abs, lower back, and arms.
  • Thanks for joining ! If any of your crew would like to join our MFP Friends group, they're welcome to join. We have 12 now, counting yourself.
  • The more I research rowing, the more often Terry O'Neill's name comes up...he's had quite a career rowing and coaching. Amazing !
  • This tip worked out very well for me. My tendency has been to tense up slightly and snap backward at the catch. Concentrating on making that small circle relaxes the upper body and focuses the mind on making a smoother catch and more fluid drive. Thanks !
  • That's me exactly. I found I can keep up the same stroke / minute rate by switching to 2 breaths per stroke when the light-headedness starts, i.e. I breath out completely on the last half of the drive then inhale during the first half of recovery, fully out again on the catch and then inhaling at the beginning of the…
  • Re-reading your post, and projecting a lot of myself into your situation, it sounds like the robbery may have forced you to change what is obviously a very succesful routine of getting exercise and losing weight and you're a bit worried if you will be able to get back to it. If you're anyting like me, I both love and hate…
  • I wake up at 5:45AM, pack lunches for the family, then get in a 5-min warm up and a 20-25 min workout nearly every morning. Exceptions are days where I have carpool duty for my sons and Sun when I take a rest day. I try to do the same workout each night after getting home at 7PM or so. I much prefer the morning workout due…
  • Bump...I'm still a bit away from maintenance, but looking forward to using idea's generated here. Great topic..
  • Great video. He mentioned his 'go-to' workout (my term, not his) was 40mins at a stroke rate of 20-21. Looking back, my rate is typically in the 25-28 range. Is that to build up a good aerobic base, I wonder?
  • I get what the Dr's call 'exercise-induced asthma'. A few minutes into my workout's, I start to feel the shortness of breath you mention. What works for me is to slow down a bit to reduce the intensity, make sure I can breath okay, then gradually build back up. Working out in cold weather can bring on an attack as well. Be…
