  • Grains, legumes toxic?? Perhaps when they come from corporate farms they are. I know that Monsanto controls the corn grown in this country. All their corn in GM and I avoid it like the plague. Fortunately there are many immigrants in the Chicago area, and I can buy grains and beans from Europe, where they don't permit…
  • Well stated! Eating out is a killer to being healthy. I also avoid gluten and I'm less bloated around the midsection. I think my skin looks better too. I got the good skin tip from a student who had facial rashes and her dermatologist told her to get off the white flour.
  • I concur. Move and light stretching, and I use ice for lower back and shoulders. I've been through physical therapy for right shoulder and need to keep up with the exercises to build strength in my back. Sitting at a desk most of the day makes shoulder worse. I use ice after running or swimming. The key is not to over do…
  • Correction! I've lost between 3 & 4 pounds.
  • What is the Whole30? Sounds interesting.....
  • Thanks for the youtube workout suggestion. I'll definitely check it out. Having a lifetime of back sloping forward too much, I'm unable to do crunches but standing ABs I could try. I need to join a gym for the AB machine.
  • You look great!! I like that you went for the lifestyle change instead of dieting. What kind of weight training did you do for abs? I have had 5 kids and my weight is in my belly. I run and do yoga, like both. Congrats and let us know about your ab workouts with weights.
  • http://www.forbes.com/sites/larryhusten/2011/07/12/study-finds-sodium-potassium-ratio-strongly-tied-to-mortality-and-cv-disease/ Here's an article to read about the sodium/potassium dangers. I was running marathons from 2001 - 2007 and ended up in the ER 3 weeks after an especially hot summer of training. My potassium and…
  • There is a relationship between the amounts of sodium and the potassium levels in the body. I'll have to google it, but there's supposed to be a ratio between the two numbers. The more sodium you have, the higher your need for potassium. We have way too much salt in our diets. Dangerously high levels!
  • Welcome!! I'm new here, this is my second week. I lost 2.5 pounds since I began. I don't mind keeping track of what I eat, but I find that I'm eating a lot less than before. Keep blogging and recording your food and drink and you'll be successful. There's lots of good advice and support on this site. Again, welcome:smile:…
  • I gain some water weight when I run more than six miles or do weight lifting. It's temporary muscle inflammation(I think). Seems like later the weight drops by several pounds rather suddenly.
  • Yes! And I've heard on the news that tired people tend to want carbs, which provide a quick but short lasting, boost to wake you up. The trouble is, when the sugar is absorbed, the level drops and you're back to feeling really tired.
  • Yes, you can lose weight without working out. The exercise gives me more energy. Have you had your thyroid levels checked to make sure you're not hypothyroid? Having low levels of thyroid hormones can make you sleepy, depressed, chilly and loss of hair and concentration. It might be worth looking into. Good luck!
  • The numbers from the most recent testing are great!! I'm at a moderately high cholesterol, 212 total good number,or HDL is 50 but the LDL is 152--I need to lower that number fast! When I ran marathons from 2001 - 2007, my overall cholesterol was excellent, but a few more years of age and more sedentary lifestyle have…
  • No, it seems like I rarely eat enough vegetables. I like all veggies, though.
