I completed my 1st Whole 30 over summer; actually, my 2nd day was the same time as TWO 4th of July cookouts and a birthday party! I made my decision public (i.e. Facebook) as a means of accountability, and I think it really helped me to stick to my guns. I hadn't been officially diagnosed w/ PCOS at the time so I can't…

Cancel: Grey's Anatomy.. please. I can't quit now b/c I'm too invested but it. must. stop. Bring Back: Doug

Thank you for your response! She (my ob/gyn) just said to steer clear of "white" carbs like potatoes, pasta, bread, etc. But when I talked to her about the Whole30 plan that I'd done, she said that those types of carbs are better but that I should still eat them in moderation. I'm a little confused about it. I lost weight…

If you're looking for a healthy, sustainable way to change your eating I suggest to try "clean" eating. I've been doing Whole30 to jumpstart this and to prepare myself better in terms of "clean" (Paleo, primal, whole, whatever buzz word you wanna go with...) recipes I like. I've seen amazing results in only 11 days. I…

West Virginia if... 1. You know that WV is actually a STATE and not simply Western Virginia. 2. It's perfectly acceptable to drive your four-wheeler, lawn mower, or other vehicle not intended for road use on the road. 3. You eat sauce on your hot dog, not chili. 4. You grew up on fried bologna sandwiches. 5. You appear to…

I don't drink/eat the no calorie sweeteners because they taste bad. If I'm going to have it, give me the real stuff! Diet Coke/Pepsi/whatever tastes awful to me and the idea of tea sweetened with Splenda .. just say no. Luckily I'm not a pop/soda drinker, so I've never had the need to curb that by drinking diet versions.…

I love adding almonds, black beans, corn, toasted cashews, snap peas, and/or changing up the lettuce mixture to spinach and kale instead. Try adding more meat also to make it a meal. Shredded chicken mixed with a little hot sauce is really good!

YESSSS!!!! This is the one I meant!

ANYTIME Will Smith cried on Fresh Prince.. in particular the ones where Carlton accidentally takes the speed and is in the hospital, and the one where Will's dad doesn't show up. Gah. ANYTIME the "sad puppy" commercials come on. The end of Armageddon, Steel Magnolias (Shelby's funeral), and a Lifetime movie called Mom at…

If you want to be healthy, then be healthy! If you choose to be overweight while knowing the negative consequences to your physical (and many times mental) health, then be overweight! I've been at least somewhat overweight since a little before puberty. Only recently have I really seen the negative physical consequences…

It's not weird at all. Chicken cooks very quickly - actually, so does ground beef, fish, and some pork cuts - but it's much nicer when I can toss it in the crock pot (frozen usually) and by the time I come home from work it's finished. Win win! :)

Check out skinnytaste.com -- She has tons of GREAT recipes (usually under 300 cal per serving) and most can be cheaply made. I agree with a previous poster about chicken breast. I usually buy the big 2+ pound with bone, boil it in a pot with some onion, celery, bay leaves, and carrots. Once it's finished I shred or cube it…

What an amazing message and model to show your son! Congratulations!!

I'm a middle school teacher and - contrary to popular belief - the only time I sit is usually during my team planning and about the first 10-15 minutes of my lunch. The rest of the time I'm walking around my room to monitor students, lots of talking, walking the halls, and outside between classes for duty. I figure that if…

I don't think carbs are inherently bad for you at all. However, I can say that I've been trying to follow a low-ish carb (100 grams or less) and high protein (60 grams or more) diet for about 2 weeks now and have noticed a big change in cravings (especially for sweets!), how quickly I get hungry, and overall…

I've been trying to focus more on higher protein and lowering my carbs (goal is 75g or less, max 100g). I've had eggs and bacon or sausage almost every morning, but on a teacher's schedule I'll be trying to make the egg muffins this week since I'm starting back to work. I've been snacking on lots of almonds, light cheeses,…

Sounds like you've got a plan! The girl who posted that she puts her goal weight on a post it and puts that on the cabinet --> that's a really good idea too! I might actually steal that one :)

I'm not exactly in the same situation as you but understand where you're coming from. My husband has been working very hard and has lost about 25 pounds. I'm very proud of him for it. He knows what he can or can't eat, and I'm not about to mother him. No thank you. He's a big boy and can make his own decisions, just like I…

Actually, no. I would honestly hope that adults would just move on if they don't agree with the topic. And after reading the comments my hope of that was lost/diminshed/proven wrong. So, quite sincere actually.

Thanks for the information. It's an interesting idea. (And I've heard/read from several other sources that our evening meal honestly shouldn't be our largest. Hard habit to break!) I wouldn't apply it in my own life but to each their own! Hopefully you enjoy this way of eating and find great results with it. I do agree…

I'm two weeks in and have lost 4 lbs., 1.5 inches from waist, 1 inch from stomach, and 1 inch from hips. Not bad at all but the way I'm sweating by the end of the workouts I thought it would be more. I did skip a couple days last week (made up the workouts later) and have rotated the schedule somewhat to have my "off" day…

I'm pretty sure the MFP calculations are grossly inflated. It calculated that I burned over 1,100 cals. mowing grass for two hours. Honestly, maybe I did since our entire yard takes at least five hours to mow, it's all at an incline (1/2 much more "hilly" than the rest), and is all push mowed. I decided to trust about 450…

Thank you, thank you, thank you again! I have blueberries and strawberries in the fridge and am staying away from breads, pasta, and potatoes as much as possible! Potatoes are the hardest for me right now b/c I make a BANGIN' baked potato! And we eat (well, did eat) them often because it seemed healthier than say french…

batgirl_273 -- I have the same issue with sometimes feeling "out of control" at home. I've stopped kidding myself thought about having "one small treat" when I buy the whole box of Little Debbies. I don't buy any sort of treat now to keep in the house; it's like an alcoholic keeping a bottle of tequila around just for a…

Scubanana7 -- Ya know, I thought for sure she would, but she didn't! I had already consulted Dr. Google and was going down that track. I'm guessing she wants to see if just dropping the weight will help me get my body back to ovulating regularly. (She did order bloodwork so maybe that's part of it.. ? Maybe she didn't wat…

Not sure if it's already been mentioned or not but I've noticed that when I start my day out with mostly carbs (oatmeal and toast for example) I feel like I'm STARVING within two hours! I'm trying now to limit my carb intake for health reasons and I noticed that today I felt like I was able to eat a lot, feel full, stay…

Thank you all so much for the responses! I certainly feel more motivated to cut out some carbs. I get SO mad for allowing myself to get to this point, but I guess this has all been the push I needed to really take inventory of my health.

Thank you for the ideas! I LOVE to bake & will check out the OOPSIE bread :) And yes, the Dr. told me that if I were to get pregnant now (which I'm not) I would more than likely get gestational diabetes. I'm having issues with not ovulating regularly now b/c my insulin level is high. She said they could give me meds which…

Thanks for your response! Are there any fruits you've noticed that have been better than others? As cliche as it sounds considering I'm a teacher, I really do like to keep apples at work b/c I can eat them easily while doing other things - even if I have a class in my room at the time - but they seem so high in sugar!…
