Look through my photograph albums and tell myself what a lucky life I've had.

Hey Mosso! UK, living in Hong Kong.

I hate to say this, because I am anti-water-drinking - I think the eight glasses a day is rubbish and any liquid, including tea and coffee, would have the same effect - but I did the eight glasses while I was on the weight-loss programme and what it may have done was stop me from feeling hungry when I might otherwise have…

Would they want me to? I am 73 years old :D

Keep active. Weird habit when I was losing was that I tried not to walk anywhere. I ran from bedroom to living room, ran from living room to kitchen - ran everywhere - even if it was just a few yards :)

Pleased - but also amazed because I never thought in my heart it would work, even though, like you, I'd been losing steadily for months. I remember also being a bit afraid that I wouldn't be able to stop and would keep losing weight until I disappeared. It didn't happen! You'll get there, and when you do I hope you are…

Basically, unhealthy carbs are processed foods.

Yup, it's hard at first. I did find, though, that if you are hungry enough you will eat anything and enjoy it. Keep at it!
-
Well done! Keep going.

I couldn't agree more. I no longer worry about high days. Low days compensate and it all evens out. I wasn't confident enough to do this while on weight-loss, but since reaching my goal a year ago it works very well and my weight varies by only 2-3 lbs up or down.

We should all be aware of the latest thinking on water consumption. See this article: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2928218/How-obsession-guzzling-litres-water-making-SWEAT-time-Problem-bad-people-want-surgery-armpits.html I don't drink much water. Tea, coffee, juice, non-alcoholic beer with the odd glass of…

I'm 5'3" and was 147 lbs. Aimed to be 120 but shot past it and now 113-114. Happy at that weight and now on maintenance. Sometimes I put on a couple of pounds and then lose them again without trying, so I'm pretty static.
-
Great obvious weight loss. You look smashing! Keep it up! I've lost 34 lbs and now at my goal weight.
-
Welcome! Just stick to your plan and you'll be fine. This is a great site and has been much help in keeping me on the straight and narrow road. I reached my goal in about eight months and have been on maintenance for two years. Still, I try and log in every day to make sure I am keeping a healthy diet.

Hello there, Rafikiphoto, I am 73 and didn't even begin to care about nutrition and exercise until a couple of years ago, when I was your age :) A sedentary, but busy, job over the years led to too much reliance on convenience foods which, in turn, led to weight gain, high blood pressure and even difficulty with simple…

Much good advice above. I am 5'3" and 73 years old. I dropped from 147 lbs to 113 lbs in eight months and have maintained that weight for more than a year now. On maintenance, if I exercise, I can now eat around 2,000 calories a day. It's more than enough. I do have the odd blow-out but it makes no difference at all. I…

I drink a pot of coffee with milk each day. That's around 3 large cups. I have never logged the milk. I still reached my goal weight in a reasonable time and have maintained that weight for over one year. I shouldn't worry about milk in tea and coffee if I were you. Concentrate on eating healthy fresh food and not going…

Who made me become overweight? It was me, myself and I!

Interesting. This fact was staring me in the face from my food diary results but I needed it spelled out in the end. I buy low-fat yogurts two or three times a week, even though I'm not keen on low-fat stuff, because it's the only way I can keep to my MFP goals. Certainly giving up processed food played a major part in my…

I'd quite forgotten about cottage cheese! I ate lots of it last year while I was losing weight. Thanks for the reminder and for the helpful list. Heading for the shops now

Thanks, editorgrll. I've read through the post and it's good, commonsense advice. True, we should avoid obsession with minutiae. That said, I am now on maintenance, so this isn't really about losing weight but rather that reducing fat should be beneficial to the heart. I am 72 years old and keen to avoid strokes and heart…

Great teamwork, you two. Congratulations!

Hi there shopno! I am from England too, though I live in Hong Kong now. This is a great website. I lost around 35 lbs. over 6-7 months. Swimming was the real trick. I swam every day for an hour each time. Now I have reached my goal (gone past it, in fact) I have cut the swimming to 5 days a week, but I love it and hope to…

I don't worry about sugar. I don't even have it on my nutrient table. As long as I don't eat whole boxes of chocolates and restrict myself to 'natural' sugar in fruit and everyday food, and to the odd teaspoon of sugar on cereal, I find it makes no difference to my general health or my weight. As written above, sugar in…
