It was suggested to me to take "before" pics, lay off the scale for a few weeks, and then take "after" pics and compare. So I am doing that. A good strategy, particularly if you are into working out.

Check out the Jazzercise site for out song lists - very varied, and all super-danceable. Also, We Do Records produces remixes that are specifically designed for fitness...mostly techno, but not entirely. They are great!

1. Log everything; 2. Scan around on the boards to see where you find people that are like minded and seem to have valuable info to offer, and friend them. (there are people on here that really know their stuff, but we all have a different approach and goal, so be selective); 3. The default nutrition goals are based on FDA…

You are right, the photos do the "study" no justice, and I don't agree with all of her conclusions. However, some of them are dramatic, and in the real world (how they look walking down the street) I think they all probably look much better than in the photos. Also, age appropriateness is a HUGE consideration, and one that…

It doesn't matter - shortened jeans almost always look dorky (unless you go to someone REALLY good). My issue is long legs, short waist, which is better since low-rise has become popular, but because they are suppose to fit at the hip there is always a big gap at my lower back, which dips in considerably. It's always…

I teach fitness classes, and I know for a fact that, for many people, just walking in the door might be the hardest thing they do all day. That kind of commitment deserves to be applauded. And SO many people fail to exercise because they are too insecure to be seen doing it. The thing is, that most of us have struggled…

Laundry. Yuck.

Find something you love. For me it was Jazzercise. I started taking classes 9 years ago and have been teaching it for 7 1/2. Through two pregnancies (and the recovery from same) and a bunch of other stresses, it has been my go-to therapy because I love it. It does not even feel like exercise any more, as much as just…

You are a very pretty girl! Congratulations on your success!

I have not taught Taylor OR Fist Pump yet....i have 9 new ones in my repertoire, and will be introducing 4 more next week. What do you recommend?

...since my critic is at it again, I will add that the article is one of many sources, but one which simplifies the objective of a keto diet so that it is easy for the layman to understand. I did not say it is the bible. Just a simple explanation in plain English. Chris, I am sorry your thread got hijacked like this - I'm…

http://www.keto.org/summary.htm ...this is a good article.

This is true - they do not recommend that you cut both carbs and fat. One or the other...

I only buy underthings that fit smoothly and will not show under my clothes. So everything is either beige or black, and I choose what to wear based on what my outfit is.

Me too - this is about my body type. Not too far to go - I have a layer of fat to lose, but the muscle tone is already under there. :) And Skylark, your before and after are INSPIRING!! You look awesome...nice job...

I am going to copy this for future use. Never have I seen this argument made in such an articulate and complete manner. You are ABSOLUTELY correct. THANK YOU!!

I am a nice person - why this need to be a d*i*c*k?? I have never claimed to be an expert. I am new to this, I am reading everything I can, and there is a large faction of people who believe this stuff, so why do you insist that it is nonsense? It isn't nonsense, and "my" studies are every bit as reliable as "your"…

Hmmmm...I'm not weak-minded either. Funny...I was just sharing a personal observation in my journey. For you to feel the need to be this nasty certainly shows a weakness in your character, if not your mind.

This is what I have always believed as well. I have been putting cream in my coffee so that I get some calories and fat to start the day, but no carbohydrates. I am definitely not losing muscle, I am a fitness instructor and my classes have been stronger and more energized than ever. But the plan I am following is called…

Nope, because you didn't offer an informed response. You offered a wise comment designed to make all of us in favor of this eating plan look like idiots. There is more to it than just urinating out all excess fat you consume. The state of ketosis forces your body to tap into fat stores for energy - it burns slowly and…

Well, you can certainly do your own research - there is a lot of info out there. Have you ever heard of Google? And it isn't all amateurs like me, who are saying that this works. Doctors, athletes, trainers....there is research behind it. I have done my homework, but I don't have a library of links to post for you. You can…

AND, it works. It really does. I am the biggest skeptic out there, and I fought this forever, but finally decided to give it a try. It works.
-
Correct. If your body isn't burning carbs for energy, it burns fat. It burns through your dietary fat pretty quickly, and then goes after what is stored in your body. Miraculous. It's like converting from electricity to gas for your power.

There is interesting science behind it, and though I agree it is an adjustment, it is nothing your body can't handle. The thing about going ULC is that it has made me feel in control of my intake for the first time ever. No cravings, no urges to pop things in my mouth....seriously - I was a constant grazer, and woke up…

Regarding the oatmeal, read this. And no, I am not hocking a book. Someone gave me this link, and has been helping me through the program for free.... IT IS WORKING. It really is! I am as surprised as anyone, but I say again, if you are going to do it, do it all the way. The results are awesome!…

I started out a couple of weeks ago with a dramatic reduction in carbs, but still eating a little bit of bread and sugar (mostly in my coffee or as an ingredient - I haven't been eating sugary foods) and I have gradually found myself leaning toward an ultra-low-carb lifestyle/plan. I am getting help from someone I hit up…

Love this! I am going to share it with my husband. We have a great marriage, with its share of challenges, but these are awesome reminders about the little things. Thanks for posting!!

I used to nosh constantly on carbohydrate- and sugar-laden foods....I have been low-carb (high protein/high-fat) for two weeks now, and the cravings are gone. No more do I eat the crusts from my kids' sandwiches, the leftover pasta in the pot, the crackers in the cupboard at 10:00 at night.... I have even cut the sugar…
