Crossfit 3-4 x per week.

I agree with the water suggestion. Drink at least 8, and preferrably more like 12 8-oz glasses of water. 3 liters? My other suggestion is that during this transition period, stop stressing the calories. Eat when you are hungry. You are re-training your body to do low-carb. Don't stress the calories during this. After your…

I remember being sooooo intimidated my first time in a real class. My box used to off CF Lite classes. They really weren't any different, but they seemed less intimidating - they wouldn't have the "elite" folks in them, so I just felt more comfortable. Scale appropriately for you. Don't worry about keeping up with anyone…

Lots of options here. 1) Heavy cream. Add some sweetener (if you need it). For a little extra flavor, add 1-3 teaspoons of unsweetened cocoa powder to create kind of a mocha. 2) Heavy cream. Buy Sugar Free Torani Syrup, or Sugar Free DaVinci syrup. So many options. I like doing the mocha above, with a syrup like vanilla,…

How long have you been following keto? I remember the first time I did low carb having a similar experience. I remember trying to sleep and feeling super-alert. I felt like I could feel my blood pulsing in my body. It was kind of weird. These days, I sleep like a rock most nights. There's a lot happening as you become…

YAY ELLEN!

I had a very nice reply when I reported her. Perhaps if there are enough complaints, MFP will take permanent action.

Made this one this morning! Caroline's Awesome Low Carb Shake. Her website used to play "Shake-Shake-Shake; Shake-Shake-Shake; Sahke your Booty" over and over in a loop :-). We didn't have any protein powder, but added 1 tbsp cocoa powder and a little espresso. Yummy and filling. I usually do bulletproof coffee in the…

For the original poster - you may want to check out the book "The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Performance", which focuses on exercise for those following a LC lifestyle.

I also suspect that we have very different ideas of what a "clean, healthy looking" diary is. I follow keto. I look at a diary with fruits and grains, and see unhealthy sugars. You'd probably look and see "clean and healthy". Obviously, we are coming from different perspectives and very different goals. Since my goal is to…

I use a Withings Wi-Fi scale, but I think there are a few out there. It automatically synchs my data, and shows Lean Body Mass, Fat Mass (or fat %), as well as weight. And - there's an app for that! So, going through your diary, if I had to guess, I would have said you were only on keto 3 days (sunday - tuesday of this…

I log it using Calisthenics. Wikipedia identifies the following as being common calisthenics exercises: Lunges, Jumping Jacks, Sit Ups, Crunches, Push Ups, Pull Ups, Squats, Calf Raises, Dips, Flutter Kicks, Planks.

I'm changing my answer. Your diary is a little wonky. Are you recording everything? I think you are under-eating. One day has 1440 calories, with 1014 calories burned from exercise. Several days sub-1000 calories, with additional exercise. Carb % is 8-12%, with fat % sub 50% a couple of days (admittedly, fat % is a little…

Totally normal. For example, my scale only shows a loss of 1 pound since mid-March. My scale also shows a loss of 7 pounds of fat, and a gain of 6 pounds of muscle. Weight isn't the full story. You don't mention how long you've been on. Many people see an initial burst of loss, and then their body stabilizes for a period…

My net carbs are usually in the 20-30 range. Add me if you like. I follow keto, which is fairly similar to Atkins. (cut the carrots!!!)

We use the Withings Wi-Fi scale. It automatically records all data for multiple users via WiFi, and the data for weight, body fat (amount and %), LBM, BMI, can all be pulled up on an app or online.
-
Good luck. It can be tough. I just checked my husband's data and it's similar. Down 3.5% body fat since March 1, with only 2 pounds net loss -- but 9 pounds lost of body fat, and 7 pounds gained for lean body mass.
-
Oh - I've really upped my workouts this month. I've had virtually no movement in my weight, but according to my scale, which measures lean mass, fat %, etc, during April alone I've gained 6 pounds of lean body mass, lost 7 pounds of body fat, and my body fat % dropped 3%! For me, keto and CF is working well.

Yes, it builds muscle. The focus is on overall fitness though, not just strength. "CrossFit is not a specialized fitness program but a deliberate attempt to optimize physical competence in each of ten recognized fitness domains. They are Cardiovascular and Respiratory Endurance, Stamina, Strength, Flexibility, Power,…

Good Calories, Bad Calories is very scientific and n depth. he wrote Why We Get Fat because GCBC was so complicated, the masses wouldn't read. So maybe start with Why We Get Fat?
-
I don't remember where this is from, but 0.5 is the lower threshold indicating ketosis. Below that - nope. Measure in the morning in a fasted state.

Let's face it - people who choose not to educate themselves are likely to fail long term in whatever program they follow. Anyone who has success on keto (or ANY program) and then goes back to the exact, same eating habits that caused them to gain weight in the first place, is not going to see long term success. This isn't…

the ketogains subreddit might be a good place to start.

Very interesting! I hate when we are sold a false bill of goods :-( I wonder if this is the game they are playing. I bought this product the other day: http://www.amazon.com/Prebiotic-Fiber-Supplement-Full-spectrum-Prebiotics/dp/B001RVFSFS/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1366918472&sr=8-2&keywords=oligofructose It's a prebiotic…

The husband likes Quest Bars. Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough is one of his favs. (I'm not a fan, but he loves them).

Amen to that. Losing weight while having great energy with no food cravings and eating delicious food is such a drag. I love these subjective opinions that are spouted as fact.

I like truvia best. Splenda is fine too. Heavy cream is in the Dairy section. Think of dairy as a spectrum, based on fat content. Skim Milk is on the far end of the spectrum. Then 1%, 2%, whole milk, half and half, light cream, heavy ream, and finally pure butter. You want to stick with just heavy cream and butter.
-
For my first 3 months on keto, I just used heavy cream. Usually coffee with 1/4 cup of cream. Yummy, and a little sweetener, Vever pass up an opportunity to add fat to what you are eating or drinking! butter, heavy cream, sour cream, cheese, coconut oil - add these in where you can. Fat is your friend.

Which may be a personal preference to avoid, but is not a restricted item for most low carb diets.
