You are right, the post-op liquid diet does require protein shakes. And in this case, you may have made the proper choice. However, the way I see it (and yes, it is goal oriented thinking. I'm a guy I can't help it) is supposed to be practice for the real deal. If a day like that happens post-op, you don't have the choice…

Regardless of anything we say here, the advice from her nutritionist/dietitian is always trump. If that person says one solid meal every few days is okay, then that's fine. What my concern is that she may not have been following the spirit and intent of the diet. If the idea is to get her used to liquids that's fine. But…

You know, you may be mad about this from me too, but I think grim is more on track than others. Yes, grilled chicken, veggies, and hummus are all good choices, when you are on a solid food diet. However, you have been prescribed a liquid diet. There are three things that I was told that have been very memorable for me. 1.…

For us that are obese, weight loss is a life-long fight. The RNY is just a tool to help you keep it off. My surgeon told me on average, people lose about 100 lbs from the surgery itself. Everything else you have to put the work and effort into. For three months post-surgery, you are doing great! I urge you to be patient.…

Just wanted to say thank you. You're right, dairy milk protein contains approx 80% casein. I guess that takes care of that question. I've had milk before but have recently switched over to almond milk. Regardless, thank you. If you are interested, here was my reason for questioning it. Because I've had RNY gastric bypass…

I had bypass surgery 1.5 years ago, and went through 6 weeks of a soft food diet. You can make anything a soft food by pureeing it. I wouldn't recommend doing that with meat, but you can get all your veggies all that way.

Thanks for the reply. I didn't know about that forum. I'll probably ask there, as every single one of them has had WLS instead of many here that haven't.

Nobody has had the issue huh? Okay.

I am 17 months post-bypass surgery. I'll be honest, it gets hard sometimes, especially the first few weeks after surgery. For me, I had two weeks of liquids, plus protein shakes, then had 6 weeks of mushy/soft foods. At this stage in the game, you should be concentrating on protein and water. You tummy is still fairly…

I have a cheat meal. I do my weigh-ins Friday mornings. So Friday evening is my cheat meal. My wife and typically go out Friday night for dinner, so that is my one meal to throw caution to the wind and make poorer choices. Now, that doesn't mean that I'll go absolutely nuts and go to a buffet and pack down a few thousand…

Good luck! I had my Bypass done Sept of 2012. If you are having the Sleeve done, yours will be much the same as mine. The pain the day off wasn't that bad, the day after, well it was bad. However, they tried to get me to go without a on-demand pain pump with morphine. Once I got on the morphine I did okay. They will ask…

I know it's a bit of an older threat, but I wondered how you were doing? Have you been getting enough protein? I had a stall a few months ago, and asked the nutritionist about it. She instantly asked me if I was getting my 120 gm of protein each day. I said no. So, now that I've started eating more protein, about 110 or…

Just out of curiosity, why do you hate the band? What about it makes you hate it? You've done amazing with it on. I chose not to do the band, mainly because of the amount of weight I had to lose. I was told that the average weight loss for the band is about 50 lb. You've lost about what a RNY bypass patient can expect to…

Never heard of this one. Stats look good on it. I'll give it a try, thanks!

Increasing protein and fiber will help you out. Veggies contain lots of fiber and help to act as fillers and help you to feel full. Maybe have some cucumber (or whatever finger veggie you like) and a bit of light ranch with your sandwich. Protein helps to make the full feeling last longer. It takes longer to digest. Drink…

In moderation, no it's probably not that bad. But there are a few things you should be aware of. 1. I'm sure you've seen the Youtube videos where soda is used to do stuff like dissolve steaks and clean engine blocks. Yes, it has to sit on the items for quite awhile to do it, but it can do it because of the acidity from the…

Pretty much the truth. I get about 120 gm of protein a day. I take capsule multivitamins twice daily, plus I take an additional 2000 IU of D, 3 chewable calcium, B50 complex, B-12 sublingual(hold under tongue) twice a week, iron and then extra C because it helps with iron absorption. Vitamins are something you need to take…

Oh, forgot to mention, my insurance was Carefirst BCBS. Other than the six month nutrition class that was required by my surgical group it was co-pays only. All in all, I paid about $500 for the entire surgery, with 250 of that being the co-pay for the surgery itself. My wife had her's done in July 2012, and we planned it…

I've had RNY surgery and have the increased protein requirements with it. For the first few weeks I had nothing but protein shakes. After that I had them at least twice a day about a year. I've tried brand, after brand, after brand of them. They all ranged from tasting like dirt, to being...okay. Until I tried the protein…

I think it's really more the width that makes the difference. I think I was getting bigger shoes to make up for the wide feet. I also theorize that since I have less weight pushing on my feet, they don't flatten out as much. Can't find anything to prove that though.

Holy cow! I don't mean to sound like a jerk, but your hubby needs to rethink that! The doctors put you on a liquid diet for a reason. There are long internal staple lines that food can get stuck in and open up! The sleeve has even longer ones than the RNY surgery! He's putting himself at serious risk of going right back in…

Keep up the good work! But, just remember to keep up with the regimen! 50% of weight loss surgery patients gain it all back within 5 years. Maintenance is the hardest part. The first 6 months the weight flies off with virtually no effort. Past that, must of the loss is up to you. Keep up with food portioning and eating…

I had my RNY in Sept 2012 here in the states (Thank goodness for good insurance). I'm 5.9. Prior to surgery: Weight: 340 Shirt size: XXXL Pants size: Mens 48 11.5 shoe. Current: Between 201 and 205. Shirt: L Pants: 34 !!!! 10.5 shoe 17 months out from surgery, and I guess I would be considered maintenance. I'm happy with…

Because they are crap? Because they have absolutely no nutritional value at all? The human body doesn't need them. From my perspective, you look like somebody that has never truly struggled with food or sugar additions. There have been multiple studies done which show that refined carbs have much the same effect on the…

You see, you'll have two sides of the spectrum. Those very much for it, and those against it. Personally, I did it basically as a last resort. I have struggled with obesity all of my life. I was always the big kid, or big boned or whatever excuse I had at the time. I've been through diet after diet after diet with no long…

YES! My wife has and I had the surgery about the same time. She lost a BUNCH of hair. I didn't. Her's did grow back in though. Things that are important for limiting the hair loss, and accelerating it's growing back. Eat your protein, drink your water, and take your vitamins. The reason for the lost is your body does not…

One thing that was introduced to me was the 30/30 rule. My medical posse is very insistent on me using it, and when I can remember to do it, it really helps. Basically, the idea is this. Take 30 minutes to eat your meal, then drink nothing after it for 30 minutes. Now, I'll admit. I have my surgery in Sept of 2012, and…

I'm 32, and my dairy is open for you to view. I had my RNY Sept 2012. My starting weight was 340, and I'm down to 201.6 right now. I lost the first 100 lbs fairly quickly, and have had a stable weight for about 6 months now. My medical team would love me to lose another 20 lbs, but honestly, I'm happy where I'm at. I went…

Low side of BMI for you is 119. Gaining weight for you is a good thing. Maybe the 1200 calorie diet is more than you had been eating. Regardless, 97 is too low. I would seriously consider seeking help with gaining weight. Try and gain it in muscle mass by getting in some exercise. And remember, gaining weight with your…
