I added everyone on this board. So happy to have some Misfit friends now! I wish I could change my Misfit name to match my MFP name but it doesn't seem to allow that.

Just added you - I'm sodagrrl

I'm adding you! My Misfit Shine alias is sodagrrl. =)

Buckweat groats is a long-time favorite of mine! I love it in kasha varnishkes =) http://homecooking.about.com/od/pastarecipes/r/blpasta3.htm

I've found that my favorite casseroles, curries, stews, and other mult-ingredient foods are tough to deal with. That's why I gained back 7 lbs. over the winter!! :| As a result I'm trying to keep meals simpler (grilled/broiled proteins w/ lots of veggies on the side, skip the starches I cook for the hubs & kid). When I do…

Sniff. Sniff.... Do I smell a troll?

5'5" - 62 yrs old - 144 lbs. - 1440 calories for TDEE at Lightly Active - 1200 calories to lose a pound a week

Canned albacore tuna and sardines are cheap, low-calorie and high in protein. Rice is cheap - and dirt cheap if you buy it at an Indian grocery store. Eggs are an inexpensive choice, and full of nutrients.

I'm 5'5" and would like to get back to my low weight of 138, but have drifted up to 144. I could see 135 being a very nice weight, though. ;)

That is a fabulous loss! losing weight can be expensive, but it's so much fun to buy smaller clothes! I still look at my jeans and think, "I can't possibly fit into those...." But I do!

Hahaha! too true. You don't want to bust your zipper the day before the wedding, either. I know - it happened to me!!!
-
It's easy to gain back. Maintenance is HARD! but if you are staying on top of it you *can* stay within 4-5 lbs. of your goal.
-
I see on your profile that you're trying to lose weight for your wedding. If your wedding is less than 5 months from now it will be very difficult to lose 41 lbs. in time. Expecting to lose more than 1-2 lbs. a week is unrealistic, IMO.

Whole eggs are a marvelous source of nutrition! not only protein, but a great source of choline which helps preserve brain function.

I've tried many variations, but this is the recipe for the hummus my family and friends like best: 1/3 cup tahini 1/4 cup lemon juice 2-3 cloves garlic 1 tsp. salt 2 15 oz. cans chick peas - drain and rinse (reserve liquid from one can) Process tahini with lemon juice, salt and minced garlic for about 1 minute. Add chick…

Blackened salmon!! sardines canned in water, too.

When I'm really craving flavor I drink shots of Worcestershire sauce.

Absolutely! When my son was a baby and I was sleep-deprived I was hungry all the time. I would eat any food that was nearby. Now, after a poor night's sleep I find the same thing. It's as though my body is trying to make up for that loss of restored energy.

I have used this little phrase to remind myself, sometimes. "What's the worst thing that will happen if I DON'T eat that? I'll feel a little uncomfortable for a bit?" being a little uncomfortable is not only do-able, it's probably good for me. Getting out of comfort zones leads to positive change, in my experience.

For me (5'5" - 143 lbs.) 72 minutes of walking at 3.5 mph burns about 300 calories (based on MFP, Misfit, MapMyWalk and SparkPeople estimates). So I'd have to walk about 4 hours to burn 1,000 kcalories.

The majority of people prefer to be sheep. They don't care if they're being led by wolves as long as they don't hve to think for themselves, because hinking is too hard for them.

There is some evidence for the health benefits of apple cider vinegar. But it's very acidic, so drinking it straight can damage the enamel on your teeth. http://www.webmd.com/diet/apple-cider-vinegar-and-health

I got the Misfit Shine about 5 months ago and I really like it. It's completely waterproof (I walk the perimeter of the swimming pool in summer, so the waterproof feature was important to me) and it uses a watch battery which lasts about 18 mos. so no need to ever take it off. It tracks steps pretty accurately (when I…

Incredible transformation! you look amazing, and it's great to hear that you've been able to maintain. That's been the hardest part for me. In fact, I've failed at it ;)

YUM! that looks fantastic. Time for a nice salad soon. :D

I agree - feeling like you've "wasted" precious calories on crap food is infuriating! If there's a food you feel is "worth it" then I'd say go for it, and just eat a reasonable portion. I go for my all-time favorite "Trenton Tomato Pie" about every 6 weeks or so with friends. I know it's going to be 1000 calories or so,…

Not sure if you're looking for advice, or just kvetching (lol) but here are a couple of thoughts. Eat a bunch of raw veggies BEFORE your Chinese foods. You'll eat less of the Chinese, but still be able to enjoy *some*. For the movies, I bring Life Savers candies in my purse - 10 calories each. Plus, it takes much longer to…
