As with most things in life (and the universe), the truth (and best practice) is most often found in the shades of grey that lies between two extremes. Whodathunkit? ;)

So is mine. It's just not viable to be competitive at this height in a weight class where the average dude is around 5'5". Heh.

Points taken. I learned a long time ago to actually read what authors write, instead of the pubbie interpretation, but I guess that a lot of "word of mouth" is still a problem. I learned the lesson in a rather embarrassing way. Let's just say that because of forum goers and blog writers, I once believed that Rippetoe…

He also runs gear, which puts him even further outside of what would apply to most of the population. When I start running blast cycles of 600-1000mg of Test-E per week, I'm sure that I'll become a pretty notable outlier as well.

True enough, but Jim also never claimed that much of his stuff was applicable to powerlifting (with the exeption of the 5/3/1 for Powerlifting book, which was actually very light on the conditioning work). It's far more applicable to things like team sports (football, rugby, etc.) and strongman/highland type athletes. I do…

I know the feeling actually. I only own one pair of 33s, as it's the only pair that I ever found in a store. It was probably a misorder or something.

This. Unless you are doing some silly crap like multiple runs per day, to the point where the cardio is starting to affect your recovery from the lifting, there's nothing to worry about. I think Wendler's views on it are pretty solid: pick one thing to focus most on (strength, conditioning, hypertrophy, etc.) and hit that…

Pretty much. "Vital" probably would have been a better word than "essential", as the latter, in a dietary context, means that it must be acquired from exogenous sources (normally food).

Yeah, I tend to hover between 32s (right now) and 34s near the end of my bulks. Between the back fat and the fact that I hammer the *kitten* our of core work and deadlifts, I doubt I'd ever see anything below a 32, and I honestly don't care to. Never been one for the "wasp waist" look. I prefer a Konstantinovs misection.

My one piece of advice for after surgery: wrist wraps. A good, stiff set does wonders for any kind of wrist pain. It's borderline necessary for those handling heavy weights (the wrist is obviously the least stable joint in the arms), but even on my wider grip warm-up sets, it transfers almost all tension from my hand…

Whoever thought those plates were a good idea should be beaten with them.

163? Damn man, I was polar opposite. I was obese from ages 10 to 27. I know them feels though. Most of my fat is a lower back issue though. It's part of my fatty past that will forever haunt me, so I've embraced it as a reminder of why to never let my diet get out of hand again.
-
Oh trust me, I've still got fat to spare. For some reason though, I've just always been fairly veiny, except when I was really obese. That said, I'm definitely done cutting for now, and looking forward to my long *kitten* slow bulk after December. The 165 class is just not befitting a 5'10" male, and given my increasing…

The color reflected in my toilet does a fantastic job of logging my fluid intake for me.

If the coach is competent and ever present, predefined structure isn't needed. We see this a lot with stuff like Sheiko's beginner routines. The progression in those is basically autoregulated by an outside source (the coach) based on form maintenance, bar speed, etc.
-
Reverse dieting phase is almost over, as I appear to have slowed my loss to around 0.25/week. Ready to ride this maintenance phase for a bit, then going to hit a nearly year long bulk into the 181s after the meet in December. Gratuitous leg shot, just because they have finally graduated from "suck" to "almost acceptable".

Canned mackerel: cheaper than salmon by far, quite high in w-3s, and pretty damned delicious as well.

Anywhere from 750-900, depending upon the amounts used. It's generally my post-post-lifting meal for when I first get to work. I tend to clock between 19-25,000 steps per day these days, and I lift 4x/week and recumbent cycle the other three. It's not as fun as it sounds sometimes. Last bulk I was having to eat ~3175…

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4762423/#!po=24.4548 It's a long *kitten* read, but basically, no. It probably won't hurt, but the tumor's environment is more than capable of metabolic adaptation that allows it to fuel tumor growth via glutamine conversion if glucose intake proves insufficient. ETA: upon…

A regular thing for me: 80-100g oats 12 oz water 4-5 large eggs 100g onion 100g mushrooms 2g turmeric 2g black pepper Mix oats, spices, onions and mushrooms, add water. Microwave three minutes. Beat eggs while oats are cooking, then stir in. Microwave another three minutes, shove in face.

Finally starting to overcome my family's tendency toward chubby chicken leg syndrome:

King's Dominion in Doswell, VA and Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, VA have these as well.

Given your caloric intake, just about anyone with a properly functioning thyroid gland who isn't 100% bedridden would lose weight. Your data just further proves what the main board users harp all of the time: low-carb isn't necessary for weight loss, but a caloric deficit is, regardless of macronutrient composition. Many…

Not sure why one would bother waiting. IF is more of a lifestyle benefit than anything. I've used it when high carb/low fat bulking, LCHF cutting, and balanced macros. The only time I won't use it is when RFL cutting.

They suppress appetite because they are an energy source; they have calories (roughly 4.5 per gram).

23.6, so high normal I am entirely too damned small for my own good, depsite the fact that I'm within spitting distance of overweight. Ah well, building back up from being a cut down FFG takes time.
-
Hell, I'm outside for 8+ hours per day, and still dose D3 at 10,000 iu/day, just because my levels are *kitten* otherwise. I don't even live in the far northern hemisphere either...and I'm a damned ginger, so my body is apparently just permanent vampire mode.
-
It's not; it's *kitten* miserable. Anyone who says otherwise has never been at both ends of the spectrum. What IS easy, is staying that way and accepting a crappier life. Unfortunately, our brains really suck about fighting us when we try to shed the weight. You basically have to force the system for a while, which does…

I found that when I was fat, the most uncomfortable rides for me, were the older wooden track coasters. Then I thought about it: those were designed and built in the 60s and 70s, when the population was notably less wide.

Not necessarily. Some minerals are only rich in very specific plants and animal sources. Zinc is a notable example. It's best sources are oysters, beans, and nuts. The issue with beans and nuts is that they are pretty calorie dense, so often avoided by people trying to lose weight. I also don't know many people who eat…
