  • Pretty much. Everything I have seen leans more toward them hitting a closer to 40% protein ratio. Plus they are massively physically active compared to western society, which has obvious and repeatedly proven benefits on such things.
  • They're more in the business of stick than carrot.
  • You could easily extrapolate that to 99% of the internet, which is why I read so little of it anymore. I don't have time to parse all of the available research, so I'm screwed once the likes of Lyle McDonald are gone.
  • You can have my Green Apple Clear American when you pry it from my rigored fingers. Other than that, I probably eat "cleaner" than 98% of the western population, though that isn't saying much. But still, I am just the right kind of insane to bulk on 3200 kcals of chicken boob, fish, fruit, vegetables, eggs and various…
  • Hmmm. I'm fairly certain that this thread just gave me the beetus with all of this talk of crackers.
  • Yeah, she reminds me a lot of a couple of Vegans on the main MFP boards. I thought that they were all insane until I stumbled across a few posts here. Now I realize that it's just the majority that are painfully dogmatic and misinformed, but not all.
  • No, it was more a point about the protein. I didn't mean for it to reflect on the first study, as that type of ketogenic diet in children is being utilized to control seizures, not for what would be considered normal dietary purposes.
  • Those are actually pretty few and far between, and stupid expensive to boot (Isopure being the main one that comes to mind). I tended to set my target a bit lower when I was running a shake focused keto diet, and 1g carbs per 20g protein fit perfectly well.
  • Precisely. People are terrible at understanding mechanisms. "Studies providing total parenteral nutrition found that urinary calcium output is a direct function of amino acid intake, at least under the unique circumstance of total parenteral nutrition (1). However, studies in which diets provided 30% of energy as protein…
  • As others have said, you may need to drop some of the "clean" foods. I personally thrive on them, but I am a former fatty who still has a monstrous appetite, and would end up screwing myself into either gaining too fast or always being hungry if I tried the oils and refined carbs route. 5-6lbs. of fruit and veg per day?…
  • When even a Vegan dietitian feels compelled to drop a deuce on your Vegan agitprop movie: https://www.vegan.com/posts/vegan-dietitian-review-what-the-health/
  • Haha, fair enough. Content is king, but context is god, and all of that. ;)
  • Best advice I could ever give anyone: squat, bench, deadlift, 5-8 rep range, find a decently structured program that involves those, and you'll be good to go. Bigger, Leaner, Stronger by Mike Matthews is a good one, as are Starting Strength and GreySkull. I'd recommend anyone new to lifting read SS, even if they use a…
  • That actually doesn't seem too far fetched. On my last bulk, by the end, I had to hit 3175 per day, just to gain 0.4 per week, and I only weighed 175 at 5'10".
  • Probably not, but I have photographic evidence of a mountain of potatoes and rice going straight to mine. :D
  • That last part is important. The economics argument takes the onus off of the overweight entirely. This is a false dichotomy, as it can he both. Just because the cheeseburger costs the same as the fruit or whatever, doesn't mean that the cost is entirely to blame. There is still a choice to be made. Also, where the hell do…
  • Pretty much this. They are perfectly fine in and of themselves. However, if they cause you to eat something that you otherwise wouldn't, they can be a problem. I have personally consumed several liters of aspertame infused drinks (Clear American, the Wal-Mart flavored water, Green Apple is *kitten* amazing) every day for…
  • I'm fairly sure that it's the latter. It's one of those silly *kitten* things that got banned based off of "supposed effects". I'm honestly shocked that they haven't tried banning more of the stuff that's in pre-workouts, but I'm sure it's coming. DMAA got the hammer a couple of years ago.
  • Nah, it's supposed to act as an aromatase inhibitor, but all of the bloods have shown that it actually causes the inverse while somehow still managing to make your joints feel as dry as a popcorn fart. It basically appears to function as a diuretic, while having barely any effect on hormonal levels, and those that it does…
  • Theoretically anyway. Bear in mind that things like caffeine, nicotine, ephedrine, Cit Mal, beta-alanine, etc. can be considered PEDs. Hell, even baking soda has been shown to improve a lot of physical performance metrics when megadosed. I've always found it amusing how arbitrary the lines that WADA draws can be. Caffeine…
  • Yeap, and they will also want either photographic evidence or medical records of your loss and maintenance periods, so I hope you kept progress pics, or go to the doctor fairly often. xD
  • After a 12 day RFL run, the ab veins are coming back in. Yes, I look tired and miserable AF, because no EC stack today. Now to force myself through one last tension session before I refill all of the glycogens.
  • Not quite the same thing as what's being discussed but: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4438142/ Title: Vinegar Consumption Increases Insulin-Stimulated Glucose Uptake by the Forearm Muscle in Humans with Type 2 Diabetes So, weight loss? Not seeing anything. Muscular insulin sensitivity in people with T2D…
  • Stole an idea from someone on Facebook and paired sardines with cottage cheese. Pretty damned good, actually.
  • I had the same problem. Tried running hill sprints in old worn out shoes and gave myself a nasty case of plantar fasciitis. I got it in April, and it's just now clearing up. I finally invested in a good pair of Brooks Adrenalines, and my feet have been fine since, though I'm still taking it easier until my left foot is…
  • I honestly can't stand it anymore. Even now, when I am cutting hard and SHOULD be keeping my activity low, I just have issues with being idle now. I tried playing some of my favorite PC games this cut, just to keep my mind occupied, but I ended up switching to my Vita, because I can walk around while playing it.
  • Especially when the tide consists of atrophied muscles and waves of adipose tissue.
  • I've always gone by the old "be the change you want to see in others" mantra. vOv As for the WW membership woes, I have my own theory: with the advent of things like MFP, evidence based nutrition and the ease of access to knowledge, those of us who truly want to get out of the overweight/obese range are turning to…
  • I love me some raw carrots, cucumbers and fruits as much as any card-carrying Vegan (I literally eat pounds of each when bulking), but seriously, screw having it make up the entirety of my diet. I have gotten my best results (in lifts and measured health outcomes) by also incorporating things like boiled potatoes, full fat…
  • Not unless it's knocking you out of a caloric deficit.
