  • From my understanding, no, you should only eat back your specific exercise calories. If you are wearing your fitbit all the time and its just recording calories burned from daily activity, it is already counted into your deficit from your activity level.
  • Cycling is definitely a good alternative to help keep cardio fitness up without the impact but keep stretching your quads because cycling tends to shorten them which can make running after a break a bit painful! I have a tendency towards shin splits due to some health problems but I find running with compression sleeves on…
  • If you click on 'check in' there is a button to edit past entries. You can go in a set your start weight as your more recent starting weight. It can make your long term graph look a little strange as there will be a sudden change but it is much more motivating to see how much you have actually lost in your feed.
  • 4" 11, aiming for 45kg or 99lbs
  • I use Nuun or Zymm electrolye tablets in my bottle while doing long mountain bike rides. They are great because they are easy, no mixing and quite a light flavour compared to some of them. I will also use these if I do a longer run (1hr + ) in higher temperatures.
  • Has anyone got a link to that awesome little video about underestimating your calorie intake if you don't weight your food? The one with peanut butter and oats? Wanted to show a friend and not having much like finding it.
  • Well according to these formulas MFP seriously underestimates calories burned from Mountain Biking...... For a 2 hour race there is almost 500 calories difference between MFP and these estimates. I guess MFP needs to have more options for exercise. Good news for me- more post-race carb replenishing!
  • Female 4'11" 133lb or 60.5kg Using the NEAT method as I do quite a lot of endurance training (Long mountain bike rides and running) and am recovering from chronic fatigue syndrome so can't afford to have big deficits on exercise days or my body is not too happy. I will eat back 100% of my exercise calories most days but my…
  • Does anyone have experience with shin splits? Have been doing some reading but am getting concerned it may actually be a stress fracture. Apparently if the pain continues after running and during everyday activities like walking down stairs it is more likely to be a stress fracture. Will try go to the doc next week but any…
  • Look up a band called Hypercrush- Werk Me. It is kind of dance music but upbeat and great to workout to. Either that or go with rock- Metallica, Drowning Pool, Linken Park......
  • Why? The reason it adjusts is because MFP automatically calculates the deficit you need to lose weight as the rate you specified. If you exercise you increase this deficit. Being in too large of a deficit can be unsustainable, lead to muscle mass loss as well as fat and can lead to you being insufficiently fueled to…
  • Did my first mountain bike race in ages and didn't completely die! I wasn't fast but I was fit enough. Onwards and upwards.
  • Try to include more 'healthy' fats and oils- avocados, nuts, coconut oil etc. Try adding chia seeds to your smoothies also.
  • Sounds similar to me. If I eat things that are too high in fiber, like wholegrain bread my stomach is very painful. To be relatively symptom free I have to keep my fiber intake pretty low and have just worked out what else sets me off by a process of elimination. Not everyone is the same so I think instead of cutting out…
  • Depending on how you log, be aware that a number of entries on here do not include fiber content as in many places fiber is not mandatory to include on nutrition labels so you may be underestimating.
  • You should try and avoid going to bed hungry because you won't be eating for at least 8 hours. It is better to try to spread your calories out through the day more. The more you experience that hunger you get from doing it, the more likely you will binge/make worse food choices the next day.
  • I do. I will normally eat most of them back as my goal net is 1200-1400 anyway so I wouldn't want to go below that.
  • Haha had this at the swimming pool once. Was swimming and suddenly everything started to taste and smell like perfume. Nearly impossible to focus on breathing when you a choking on that. My training partner and myself both had to stop and I noticed a few other people get out to. While I get that it is a public space, a…
  • So you can meet your macros easily enough but what about micro nutrients? As I said above, those who are very careful to track vitamin and mineral content can do fine on 1200. And yes, 1200 is an arbitrary number but it is true that those with lower calorie intakes have to work a lot harder to meet all of the micro…
  • Haha adequate nutrition= getting at least RDI of all vitamins and minerals needed + meeting macro goals. Unfortunately, many people on 1200 will miss out on things. For example, essential fats (omega 3 + omega 6) is something people on 1200 commonly miss out on. That being said- if you are prepared to track everything and…
  • For quite a number of people, 1200 calories is not enough to get adequate nutrition. However, if you are a short, relatively inactive female, 1200 is OK as long as care is taken to ensure adequate vitamin and mineral content.
  • I think even the simple act of encouraging children to finish everything on their plates even when they are full has a lot to answer for. I have a hard time leaving food on my plate even when I am stuffed now! Also, my father was an extremely fussy eater. We had no veges other than potato, carrot, corn and peas, no…
  • @Tinabob777 Haha yeh, the funny thing is apparently when I am out running my style used to look OK but apparently the freeze frames are not so good. I know I could make my photos look better by stiffening my wrists but isn't it more efficient to relax the upper body when running? Why waste energy tensing muscles you don't…
  • I'm not sure if you will be able to see this link but you are not the only one...... Needless to say- I did not purchase this photo. I look like I have no idea what I'm doing but I actually managed a half marathon in 1hr 54 despite having to have a month off prior due to injury. Always makes me laugh. Or this special…
  • It is more difficult to lose as you age. As well as reduced metabolic efficiency, hormonal changes as you age cause your fat:muscle ratio to change resulting in less LBM which makes your BMR lower. Although eating well, lifting etc can reduce the influence of these factors, you can't deny biology. But when it comes down to…
  • Just wondering how everyone manages to get their weekly net calories? Is it only for people who have the app or is there a way to find it on the web version? I currently have to calculate it myself and was wondering if there was another option.
  • You mean by cheating and completely ignoring any posts by females? Yeah Good work- totally killed the thread- thanks.
