Feb 20 - 3.5 miles. No other running this week. Pleh. All my miles this month are running.

My husband had a detached retina. Just about killed my running schedule. Fortunately, he's recovering well. Feb 8-14: 5 miles Pleh.
-
Feb 1-7: 5 miles walking. I got a sinus infection...and now my husband had a detached retina and surgery. 2014 is kicking my butt. I think i'll start using a pedometer to 'count' more than treadmill miles.

I'm wondering if you just count 'work-out' miles, or if you wear a fit bit or similar and keep track of all miles? 150 in a month will be a challenge - and I'm a distance runner - if all the miles need to be 'work out' miles. Thanks! Ran 5 today (but at the start of January I thought joining a challenge would cause more…

p.s. I see you're from Chicago. I've run NYC, Marine Corps, Flying Pig, etc. I was born in NYC, so of course I loved the experience of running the NYC marathon. But the logistics of getting to the start (subway to ferry to bus and then walk) took as long as the marathon. I'm probably not running NYC again. But I'm running…

Congratulations! I've completed over 20 marathons (or longer) in the past 5 years. I'm 46 now. My recommendation is to build milage slowly to avoid injury. So, the path that you see of going from 5k to 10k to half marathon is an excellent model. Make sure you have good running shoes. I'd recommend finding a LRS (local…

Oh, and if we want a dessert, we really like the chocolate popsicles for 100 cal, I think by Weight Watchers. Yum.

Lessofmeplease, I've had a crazy week. I have some time tomorrow. I could also put together a total meal plan. I was thinking along the lines of: Mini quiches (the recipe I posted) for breakfast, with something else. Morning snack: protein fruit smoothie Lunch: turkey avocado spinich and cheese wrap in whole wheat…

J, I think those are all great guidelines. I prefer a diet that is calorie loaded early in the day, although I tend to make my largest meal be lunch. But I'm flexible. Whatever works best as a complete day. Sarah/3Trees

I find using the iphone in the gym awkward - but it would be pretty discrete. I've printed out each exercise on a sheet of paper, put them in a 3 ring binder, and headed off to the gym. Do I feel like a no-nothing newbie? Yup. But I got it done. And people were very encouraging, even asking where I got some of the…

Thursday: 6.2 on the treadmill. more from just walking around. TWO DAYS TO GO!
-
Wed: 3.1 on the treadmill, plus a couple just going about my day. About 15 miles so far this week (I haven't downloaded numbers from the body bugg yet which tracks steps). Tomorrow will be a longer workout.

We're each limited to tracking just one sport, just like the BL challenge. I got my 6 miles in tonight while watching BL on TV. Disappointing show, but a solid 6 mile walk/run. Looks like I need to step it up - you are all doing fabulously! I need to build gradually after the marathon last Sunday so I don't get injured.…

Yay! Great job Urbanmasala. Running: Mon: 2 Tues: 6 planned for 6pm :-)
-
Yay! Urbanmasala is already racking up the miles on the bike. SailorMoon and I are going for the running endorphins. I need to hit the treadmill now...back later!
-
Ok, let's stick to the strenghts - Urbanmasala on bike, LessofmePlease on elliptical, and I'll walk/run as much as I can. Maybe I can get in a bunch of extra walk miles as I recover from the marathon. Let's go! I think we have a really good chance of placing well in this. I think the bike miles are the key to placing well…

First, don't worry about a weight gain this week - while you had to turn in your weight this week I think only your combined loss over 2 weeks counts towards the elimination (unless I misunderstood again!). Makes me wonder how women on the BL TV show deal with TOM. Why is it never mentioned? It certainly is a real weight…

I find if I keep eating the same foods, week after week, I start out with good portion sizes. Over time, I want more of the same food to feel satisfied. For this reason, I'm trying to mix up my menu a bit more. It's frustrating, because if I find a set of meals that leads to solid weight loss, I hold that for a couple…

I haven't used a polar, so I'm not much help there. However, for my body bugg and garmin, the companies have a website that includes forums and customer support. I would look to see if Polar has some online customer support and see if they can help. Also, search online for a way to do a 'hard reset.' Usually this involves…

Ugh. I totally misunderstood this week. First, I though 3 of us had immunity from last week (not that it matters given the second confusion). Second,I didn't think every team without immunity would have to vote off two people. No amount of weight loss by our most excellent team could save us? I wasn't too happy that my…

I was going to guess sciatica. Nerves come down the back, fork, and head down the but into the legs. My husband has had pain about there from sciatica. I'd recommend trying a yoga routine that has a lot of streching. Everything is connected. I keep my plantar fascitis under control by doing a soleus stretch (deep calf) and…

I'll start. I find eggs are a really good way to get protein without a lot of calories. I also find them very filling. I also have 20 chickens, so I usually have wonderful fresh eggs on hand. This past week I found a new recipe for bacon and eggs made in muffin pans. The muffin pans allow you to make many in advance. So…

I can talk about my own daughter's odyssey. At 11 she was 10 or so pounds overweight. For a child that age, that shows. Kids are mean. She was teased. I told her if she wasn't teased about that, it would be something else. I tried to help with her diet. I encouraged exercise. I bought a book with a program for kids -…

Case study of 1 (myself). My knees used to hurt. I ran in high school. An orthopedist told me I had a choice for the rest of my life - stay in bed and not hurt my knees or be active and hurt my knees. He also told me to lie flat on my back and do straight leg lifts, one leg at a time, to build up my quads. That would help…

I'm in. I did 4 last night. :-)

Great job, Gary. And great report. You are doing wonderfully.

Patagonia active brief underwear is great combined with compression shorts. If I'm running a marathon I'll still use some body glide where the underwear meets my legs to avoid any chafing. I started needing to use body glide after I lost some weight - as I can't affort to buy new Patagonia until they wear out as they run…

OK, team 4, I've tried to friend each of you, but I can't find bubblesburst80 on Gary's friend list. Gary, perhaps there's a typo? If anyone knows bubblesburst80 could you ask them to send me a friend request - I'd like to be connected with my teammates so we can help support each other as we take on September. Thanks!…
