I am age 59 now, joined Dec 2010 at #204, met goal May 2011 and maintained at ~168 since then. The key for me was logging foods and exercise, and smaller plate size at dinner! Also bringing in lunch, not buying at work. I am happy to report I am on my second pair of Nike trail running shoes, having worn the first pair out.…

My 2 cents is the whites. You've got hills and then real peaks above treeline. Of course I have not done Kahadin, (quite a drive) and the Whites are close for me to get to. If only they were more like Colorado or the alps.... Oh well.
-
I think I would not like climbing the same hill twice, with and then without pack. But in the name of "science" I might do it... I'll post results!
-
Maybe somebody needs to do a ""scientific" study like Scarlet suggested! Couldn't hurt. Anybody willing to hike the same path twice with and without pack?!

was that N Haverhill Black Mountain? Wasn't it great? [/quote] Hi, actually that was Black Mountain in Maine - up near Acadia National Park - the trail started right near our cabin that we stayed in on the lake. We were about 40 driving min from Bar Harbor, which was also beautiful! Black Mt that day was tough for me - it…

Great to have this group! I'm 59, Iive in VT but love the white mtns, just across the river in NH. Nothing like getting above treeline. Used to live in Switz and love scarlet's pictures. Wish I could go back!

amazing! you look really healthy!

Congrats on your marriage plans! Use the iTouch or other device to log and you'll find it really easy on the go, instead of waiting til you get home. Plus this site is FREE and there is tons of support. Don't ignore the weights too. Your goal sounds really reasonable.

A day or so after I ran for an hour I had something similar... but on the inside of the left ankle. Mine was, I found out, distal posterior tibial tendonitis. I have been babying it for a week now and it is almost OK. Comes from excessive pressure on tendons which catch your foot as the heel stikes the pavement. Your may…

My wife and I joined in December. I don't think its an easy road to follow without someone tracking with you. So get your husband on board! Or at least take all these people up on the friend offers. You can friend me too. We're all in this together!

I like the "stevia in the raw" product more than truvia. They say that its been used in Japan for decades with no problem. I choose to think of it as natural: You can grow the stevia plant and then stir the leaves in your drink... but I'm going to buy the product in a package-its easier!

Log, Log, Log. As for vacations, invest in an iTouch for the MFP app, and it'll carry all your daily calories back home with you, and you can sync then if you haven't been able to while you were away.
-
Welcome too! Lots of support here for you! Remember to log everyday, even on the tough days, and work in some exercise, however little! Make MFP a habit for three weeks and it'll become part of your life not just a diet! Friend me.. your goal is worthy, but lets do it in small steps, OK?

This guy seems to know about HRMs and related questions. Worth a read: www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/Azdak/view/the-real-facts-about-hrms-and-calories-what-you-need-to-know-before-purchasing-an-hrm-or-using-one-21472

I mostly don't use the MFP estimates now that I have the HRM.
-
As a rule you need to subtract the calories that you would have burned anyway as a part of just living. When I do 30 mins of exercise i subtract 35 calories. My NordicTrack recumbent bike always showed many fewer calories than my TIMEX HRM. What matters is a consistent method of recording... I have adopted the HRM as my…

get a heart rate monitor and vary your workouts in the various zones. can't tell from your note if you have one or not. seems to have made a difference for me. and feed your body, don't deprive it.

Just got a Timex T5J041. I think (but can't prove) that the calorie counts on it are overstated. But the main thing is monitoring BPM and I am pleased with that and all its other features. It is easy to use, has chest strap and costs about $65. It has changed my workouts in a dramatic way, for the better. I have ordered my…

Thank you for this treat!

I am wondering, with all the MFP cheerleaders here, has somebody made their own MFP t-shirt? I think the program is great. My wife and I joined in Dec and it has made a terrific difference for both of us. And with the maintenance plan option you can stick with this program!
