What motivates me... 1. First off I want to where my bikini and not feel like a whale next to my super skinny sister. 2. Getting married in March and want to have great photos of me to look at for years to come 3. Finishing with faster 1/2 marathon times 4. Finally feeling drop dead gorgeous in nothing but skin.

I believe everyone is pretty different with their weight training as a runner, but what I found that works the best with running is light weight and more repetitions. I focus a lot on my hips as I tend to have IT band issues. There are many exercieses she can look up on line. I use some from runnersworld.com and…

Congrats!!!! More to come I assume!

Wow congrats on your loss! You have done great work. Keep it up!

I got mine four years ago and had zero weight gain. I suffered from a lot of cramping and still do. It probably isn't the best option for me, but other's have no issues with it. The benefits of the mirena are AMAZING! Good luck! I wouldn't be concerned about weight gain. Talk to the doc about it.

I also take ibuprofen an hour before I run...seems to help a bit.

well it happens to a lot of us. I get pain around mile 6 and just suck it up. I have tried insoles, but those make my IT band hurt. I don't think it's anything medical just the wear on your feet. When I take time off from running it isn't that bad, but during training and running 1/2 marathons it comes on every time I…

Hi I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism six years ago. I take Synthroid as opposed to Levothyroxine, because for some reason the Generic wasn't making a difference. As for your diet, well there is no such thing as a "hypothyroid diet" eat healthy and exercise. Take your medication every morning one hour before you eat…

Sounds like you are pretty trained up if you already have ran 8 miles. I do half-marathons and use the rookiemarathon.com training guide. In between 1/2 marathons I don't train to the exact training schedule and end up just winging it. It's not ideal since I don't do as well, but if you really want to run won GO FOR IT!…

well at least it isn't meth you are addicted to. So you have an addiction to the gym? Well you said point blank it doesn't interfere with your children and your home life then so what? When you find that your addiciton is ruining relationships, work and overall health then it's something to worry about. Since you are a…

BTW if you gain some weight don't be too surprised it happens to a lot of people who train for marathons and 1/2 marathons.... i gained all my weight back when I did my first 1/2, because I was building a lot of muscle (and eating a lot more) but now that i have settled back down I am slowly losing again. It's also VERY…

CONGRATS! I just completed to 1/2 marathons in may and july. It's exciting i promise. 1. SHOES - Go to a local running store not some box store like scheels or ****s oh whatever you have near you and get fitted for proper running shoes that go with the way you run. I have a normal pronate so I like my Nike Structure 13's.…

I hear ya! I have hypothyroidism and get up at 4:00 a.m. to hit the gym every day. I want to nap time every afternoon at 1p.m. In order to stay awake I eat a lot of berries, drink plenty of water and yes I love coffee! I also like almonds in the afternoon. I also walk the dog in order to stay moving. When you find the cure…

You have a great workout going for you. I do the same thing as you by putting the muscle groups together. In order to keep from getting sore I do it twice per week, otherwise the pain creeps in. Great job by the way, you should be ever to proud of yourself. I will say once I started working out in muscle groups rather then…

I workout around 4:30 a.m. and I have a 1/2 a bananna and 1/2 cup chocolate milk. Post workout I drink another 1/2 cup chocolate milk and then breakfast, which usually includes egg whites and wheat toast. There is something to be said about chocolate milk and how great of a pre and post workout drink it is. It has…

I am from Minnesota and moving back on Thursday. I am real big into hiking and running so when I get back I will be hitting up the trails and let you know what I find. I will be living in Woodbury.
-
Hey i know a lot of people running that race and if I was living in Minnesota right now I would be there. Just relax you already know you can do this. Do you have a pre-race ritual? Like pasta night the day before? I don't think there is a cure for the jitters, because it's all in your head. Do something you know that will…

Mayo Clinic always has the answers I like to drink a 1/2 cup of chocolate milk before my workout and right afterwards and then i make breakfast. I don't know if that is ok to do, but I don't feel crampy nor hungry until I am finished with my workout. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/exercise/hq00594_d

Pick up running! Very challening and you can also set a goal to run a 5k or 10k. All you need is a pair of good shoes and you are ready to go. I remember at one point when I weighed 222 I could barely run a mile and now I have finished my first 1/2 marathon in May and have another one in 3 weeks. Good luck!
-
Yea the girl above me has a great plan for training for a race. I took a week after I completed my 1/2 marathon and I will say it was hard that first week to get back into the groove. You are right though it is mental. The only cure is to get over it in your head and just do it. After the first week back in the game you…

I'm with ya sister! I am always hungry and can always eat more! I consume a large portion of protein, good carbs and good fats, but it never seems to work. I am a big running and when I ran 10 miles in one day I feel like I could eat 2 medium pizzas! When I was training for my 1/2 marathon i actually gained 7 lbs. (it…

I enjoy the Spinning as my cross training. The interval workout as really improved my running. Zumba is fun, but I don't know how great it is for cross training. As long as you are doing some other activity besides running I think you are good. Happy Cross Training! :)
