I have the fitbit charge. I love the fact that it can sync with myfitnesspal. I also love the fact that it has an altimeter built in, so it counts stairs (I have those in my house, so when I feel like burning a few extra calories on the cheap, I get climbing).

May I suggest that if weights are somewhat new to you, you spend some time learning proper form on the exercises you're going to perform? That really ought to be step number one for anyone starting up on weights, just to minimize the risk of injury...

Holy Toledo! So many good stories here. Congrats to everyone!

1. Yes, absolutely. I start every workout by an hour on the elliptical machine. I can't run much because of knee surgery, but if I get bored of the elliptical I'll spend some time on the treadmill. I wish I could use the pool but it's always overcrowded. 3. I do it because I can't really lose weight and/or keep it off…

Thank you! That actually helps a lot! I had no idea Planet Fitness is a national chain that allows members to work out everywhere.

OK, here are some thing that will start to happen once you start counting calories and sticking to it: 1. You will notice that if you eat fruits and vegetables, you will eat more food. This is because most fruits and vegetables contain fewer calories, or even better, because it takes less energy expenditure to burn them.…

WickedPineapple, I see you also do yoga. Do you do that on the road? Do you find that it helps with weight loss? I resolved this year to start carrying p90x workout videos on my laptop (the cardio ones) in case I can't get out of the room or if the gym at the hotel is closed or crappy... jbee27 - good advice. Perhaps I…

Thank you all! So much good advice! I'm usually obsessive about where I stay. I try to scout out hotel gym pics before I commit to staying there, I Google Earth them so I can see if I can go for a safe jog at night, I almost never eat their fare unless it's fruits and vegetables (the Hilton Chains are usually very good…

That's a rough schedule! The other thing you may want to do is substitute your snacks with healthier options. One thing that works for me is to have drinks available, especially coffee or tea. If I drink coffee, I will not eat anything. The other thing that works is involving my hands in an activity other than feeding my…

Why don't you make guy's night out something other than darts and billiards? You could make it a flag football game instead, indoor hockey, basketball, whatever? That way you'd all burn calories and then you can retire somewhere to have your beer, too.

I've lost 18lbs in about 2 months without cutting carbohydrates. I do it strictly by not eating more than My Fitness Pal allows for. When I want to eat more I just make sure I exercise so that I can have the extra calories.
