I'm not even a soda drinker but my first thought was your stomach contains acid, so why am I concerned that Coke has it? Coffee, tea, lemonade, and vinegar do too. For that matter water will etch marble. It reacts with calcium.

^ This. ^This People want a simple, pat answer. But, sorry, bodies aren't simple. If you are carrying a substantial amount of excess weight over a protracted period of time, guess what. There's a good chance that you've screwed up your metabolism. You've very likely exposed your body to very high levels of insulin for a…

That was part of what was in it, but this summary misses the bigger picture it was trying to point out. Unless you can work out a very great deal, it's rather difficult to work off excess calories consumed. It takes a lot of workout time to work off a cupcake. And, counterintuitively, there are studies that working out at…

The number of carbs that you eat is going to be something that's going to vary by individual as what constitutes 'enough' or 'too many' is a combo of many factors ranging from your exercise routine, to your current weight, to your insulin sensitivity. Etc.

I eat less than 100g carbs most days and I eat lots of carbs. "Lots" as defined by the quantity of my plate and its proportion as compared to other macros. (and I'm eating 1600+ calories a day and staying under 100g carbs). The difference for me is that I moderate the refined carbs of flour and sugar (haven't eliminated…

Wow. That's ... wow. Where does one start to deconstruct that post... Simple and complex carbs both occurring in 'natural plants'? Starches as complex? 'Natural plants' (are preternatural ones an alternative?)

Baked chicken thigh w/ cajun seasonings. Half of a sweet potato stir fried w/ chili pepper in coconut oil and steamed broccoli. Honeydew melon and blueberries for dessert.

So, wait, jelly? As in... pectin/water/sweetner + nothing else. Jelly? Is this about hunger or a sweet craving?

You might want to read up a bit on the glycemic index. It would give you a better frame for reference. http://nutritiondata.self.com/topics/glycemic-index

Read labels. Sometimes canned is fine. Sometimes it has unnecessary added sugar and/or excessive sodium. Reading labels allows you to make an informed choice. Frozen veggies are always an option too.

Just remember that adequate protein isn't just a matter of ingesting it. It's about what your body can absorb in order to meet it's requirements. There are certain combos of vegetarian items that can provide a more complete protein than any single vegetarian source. If you're looking for a pure vegetarian source of protein…

Thanks So, I'm gathering popped corn is not actually 'raw' then. Popped corn = cooked. raw corn = raw corn. cauliflower =/= popped corn, it's cauliflower Though now I'm confused about how anyone thinks pomegranate seeds taste like popped corn... wha?
-
I thought that was the ever-demonized on MFP "clean eating". I thought 'raw' meant that it wasn't heated over a certain temperature (something like 100 degrees or something. I don't remember the number). Still popcorn baffles me. That's cooked. Any definition calling it otherwise seems like ridiculous hair-splitting. If…

Having read most of the thread (and I'll keep my thoughts about it to myself), I do have one question... How is popcorn 'raw'? Popcorn is pretty much by definition cooked unless someone is eating hard kernals of corn.

I can, but it's because I don't have carpet. Anyone want to come over and sweep and mop?

Why must these fights constantly swing from one extreme to the other? In these pie fights it always tends to boil down to someone screaming that... It's all on the individual (to magically know what a restaurant puts in its food and what it's caloric load and/or serving size might be. Can't you tell just by looking at it…
-
There's plenty of room for margin of error. On the other hand, it's better to have some frame of reference than none at all, so having calorie counts and serving sizes is helpful (if not 100% accurate).

Specious argument is specious. They could serve a smaller plate for $10.

If you don't want to -- don't. Very simple. If you don't want to buy organic food, do not buy organic food. Someone else may wish to. They may wish to support local farmers or protect some watersheds. Or they may want to avoid some pesticides, or may have any reason they wish to do so (they don't even have to meet anyone…

Never attribute to malice what can adequately be explained by ignorance. Either way, it's still a cutural issue when restaurants as a matter of course serve portions that are in fact 3 servings/a full days worth of calories. They do it because they want consumers to feel like they got their money's worth, but they're doing…

Saw something about insulin, leptin, and dopamine receptors somewhere as well (don't remember the details of it though.) I know that there's overlap in leptin receptors and insulin such that high insulin levels coincide with leptin resistance and leptin resistance means that you aren't getting accurate 'satiety' feedback…

Mine changes regularly because I tend to cycle through whatever I'm eating at the moment (either because of what I'm into at the moment or what's efficient with my last grocery trip) then I move on to something else. So some days it's meat and veggies. Some days it's soup and salads. A fairly typical day can range from a…

You don't have to eat ALL of your calories back (partly because there's a tendency to over estimate calorie burn). But, you shouldn't net 67 calories for a day. Eat back some of your exercise calories. There's going to be some (human) error in your calorie count (people tend to underestimate what they eat) and some (human…

If you eat at a caloric deficit you should lose weight. If you have metabolic syndrome ( http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/metabolic%20syndrome/DS00522 ) , insulin resistance / pre-diabetes ( http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/prediabetes/DS00624 ) , type II diabetes, polycystic ovary syndrome…

^^This. I figured that the person posting the "carbs killed my cat!" thing was making a joke. But I couldln't help but think, "You know, carbs can kill a cat." Cats are carnivores. They cannot be turned into vegetarians. It is deliterious to their health. No joke. DO NOT DO IT. If you want a vegetarian pet, get a sugar…
