You should consider the NYC marathon! New York Road Runners (nyrr.org) has this 9+1 program - if you're a NYRR member ($30 a year?) by January and run 9 of their qualifying races (anything from 1 milers to 5Ks, 10Ks, and half marathons) and volunteer for one of them, you get guaranteed entry to the following year's…

I disagree 100% - the aches and pains are worse because you're probably more out of shape than you were when you were younger. I'm not saying that to be mean at all, but age really is an excuse in my honest opintion. It's simply easier the more active you are. There are multiple studies on this - the more out of shape you…

nice job! so this was a 5K? a 10K? when I get super tired and am super achey, I just remind myself that most times, it hurts worse to stop and then start back up again, so I try to just finish as fast as I can. usually it involves me giving myself a little pep talk - "you've run faster than this before, your body can…

BROOKLYN in tha hizzouse! I'm new here actually... I'm the opposite of you - mostly plant based diet, lots of carbs (mostly fruit), very little fat... but I like endurance stuff quite a bit and am seriously lacking in the upper body strength department (noodle arms). Would love to work on that after the marathon on 11/4,…

haha, I agree with this... I happen to think it's bad luck - setting yourself up for a bad race if you wear the race shirt to the actual race. remember that scene in PCU? Don't be that guy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GgFcl3BrJpU

I've run with music during longer races where I wasn't pushing it. I ran a marathon injured last year and KNEW it would take me 5+ hours to get to the finish line so I just zoned out and listened to a fun playlist. But if you're looking to PR or take the race seriously, I wouldn't wear them. Technically, you'll be hard…

when I'm in a "snacking" mood and not really hungry, it's usually from boredom... use it as an opportunity to get up and go for a walk, do a set of pushups or squatz - usually something active to release that energy helps.
