if you're going to Chipotle, beware of hidden calories in things like their salad dressing. yes, it's delicious, but I really don't think it's any "healthier" than McDonalds or any others... this might be useful: http://www.chipotlefan.com/index.php?id=nutrition_calculator I second the Maoz Vegetarian places - it's like a…

science says carbs specifically make you fat? please, humor me....
-
no, I didn't skim over anything... you said you carb cycle and you said you take in 40-70g of carbs on your non high carb days... so how do you know you're not in ketosis on those days? do you know how long it takes to be in ketosis? how long are your low carb days? I'm genuinely interested here... I'm just curious how you…

I like tea a lot, but are you drinking it caffeinated or decaffeinated in the evening? I've read that coffee relaxes some people, but I don't know... I personally try to stay away from caffeine in the evenings, but maybe I'm just sensitive to it. I love love LOVE Lapsang Lachong tea - it's very "smokey" - they dry the…

awesome! this is actually very interesting... I don't see where he talks about the differences he experienced in high carb vs. low carb though. and he admits to having issues digesting carbs (CR) and issues with losing weight, which is what set him on this journey in the first place. "I limit myself to about 50 grams a day…

I just don't agree with a lot of what he has to say, just personal preference... funny enough though, your post made me check out his site again, and I found that he wrote about T1 diabetes recently http://www.marksdailyapple.com/type-1-diabetes-paleo-primal/#more-33355 "Exercise intelligently. “Vigorous” exercise can…

I freaking LOVE kettlebells! When I do weight lifting, I typically stick to the basics and lift heavy - squats, deadlifts, OH presses, but I really like mixing kettlebells in there too for core stuff. Look up some youtube videos and try the more complex moves like high/low windmills and turkish getups - these are my…

woops, okay sorry... I'm still getting used to the whole posting on a message board thingie.

actually, this whole thread has been eye opening in a way and it's provided a bit of truth from both sides... I certainly didn't start it to spur an argument, but you would probably see it that way through your narrow lens of comprehension. very few people are actually arguing... in fact, a lot of useful information is…

possibly.

you're wrong - carbs provide your body with more than just energy... they prevent catabolism of muscle (muscle wasting), they aid in the absorption of calcium, they feed the microbiota in your gut. I'm talking about this stuff from a HEALTH perspective, not just a diet perspective. can you live off of zero carbs? yes, for…

I don't limit fruit intake at all, but if that's your goal, you might want to look into berries - they have some of the lowest sugar content of fruit.... frozen blueberries are fantastic! ps - grapes are about the worst as they are very low in fiber

um, no? I fully expected to ruffle a few feathers, as I stated in my original post. I just think if you're going to disagree, at least tell me WHY and be constructive about it, adding to the conversation. I don't think there's anything wrong with what I said. the person was just whining... not actually adding anything to…

LOLOL I honestly don't know if you're being sarcastic or not, but that was just hysterical.

oooh fun! 1. bananas 2. dates 3. kale 4. tomatoes 5. odwalla soy protein smoothies 6. steel cut oats 7. sweet potatoes 8. coffee 9. almond milk 10. lentils

you, Sir, have certainly earned my respect with your reply... I appreciate all your points and apologize for offending with the "easy way out" comment. I guess definitions of low carb differ, and I certainly wasn't talking about people who maintain it for health reasons, or who are educated enough on it to aim to prevent…

yep, fair point... I think it's because he's definitely a plant based high carb low fat follower.... I wasn't really so focused on his lipid profile, it was his glucose and how long it stayed so elevated and how HIGH it went (technically to diabetic levels, even in a non diabetic)

you might be confusing me with someone else - I never posted anything from Mark's Daily Apple - I think that guy is nuts.

I'm sorry you can't do your own research, a quick google search is all it takes, but here you go, I'll do the work for you: http://ajcn.nutrition.org/content/55/6/1174.abstract http://www.springerlink.com/content/1243786rq457j84m/ http://www.springerlink.com/content/1enfcr0fm56k1xh2/…

how do you know you're not in ketosis? do you test your urine for ketone bodies? just curious how you maintain this state of non-ketosis on a 40-70g of carbs a day diet? I thought the general rule of thumb was that if you're getting less than 100g a day, you're in ketosis? oh, I know exactly why low carb works and why it…

wait a minute... funny how I'm the troll when you're the one popping up in a thread to just complain and won't even point out the ways in which I'm supposedly wrong. I was obviously using South Beach and Paleo as examples of low carb, but they weren't the focus - I wasn't attacking those specific diets, I was voicing my…

that's not at all what Delgado was trying to prove. fat does NOT raise blood glucose at all. carbs do. he was showing what happens when you COMBINE fat and carbs. I think he ate a pretty typical American diet - that was what he was intending to do... show that dietary fat keeps blood glucose elevated for longer periods of…

why don't you start by telling me what I'm uninformed about instead of just b!tching about the thread?
-
not for nothing, but that's what EVERY diet claims. nothing new there.

slow the activity is a bad choice of words... there are many articles on the effects of a ketogenic diet on patients with epilepsy... the reason why it works is largely unknown, but here's a good article on it: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/11/21/magazine/21Epilepsy-t.html?pagewanted=1&_r=2&hp& "The best way to think about a…

LOL I'm not attacking you, calm down.

I didn't think we were talking life/death either - I thought we were talking about health? ;)
-
exactly my point, thank you. people are obsessed with losing the weight as fast as possible no matter what the cost to their health. and heart attacks are not "normal" at ANY age - 27 or 72.

great! good for you, keep at it then :)
