there's nothing about the source of the carbs in that study/article. I thought I was pretty clear when I was disputing non-processed naturally occurring carbs such as fruit and vegetables.

the brain cannot run on zero glucose - that was the only point I was making. ketogenic diets are especially helpful for those with epilepsy actually because ketones essentially slow the activity of the brain. this is why people often complain of headaches and mental fogginess while on low carb diets.

you're confusing ketoacidosis with diabetic ketoacidosis - they are not one in the same, they are two completely different pathologies. it is completely possible for long term ketois to develop into ketoacidosis - it happens all the time in starvation acidosis, what you see frequently in anorexia nervosa.

yep, I get that... I just don't think many people cycle - I think the average low carb dieter just tries to eat as few carbs as possible without thinking of the consequences - that was kind of my point.

that brings up another good point... in striving to be as low carb as possible, what about ingesting things like sugar alcohols and other processed chemicals? I'd rather just have the real stuff in moderation, personally.

I get what you're saying, but long term ketosis can absolutely lead to ketoacidosis. my beef isn't with short term states of ketosis - I'm thinking of the obese woman who wants to lose 100lbs in 6 months. even short term ketosis lowers serum pH, btw, not significantly, but it still does.

the only things I truly hate have more to do with just straight up inconsiderate type stuff. leaving crap laying around, not putting weights back... I also can't stand when people wear perfume/cologne or talk on their phones - that's just rude.
