Drink a lot of water! You might be gaining muscle, but losing weight is a science you will lose weight according to your calorie deficit. Try the sauna, just keep on keeping on the weight WILL come off if you stick to the plan. Maybe using measuring cups to make sure your portion sizes are right.

I don't think that's even mildly true, everyone focuses on calories and not on adequate nutrition. Bread isn't good for you, candy isn't good for you, red meats aren't that great for you. I'm on a two month cycle :( two months of perfect diet and weight-loss then fall off the wagon gain it back repeat :( I think we need to be our own motivation, I use a calendar, I have my goal dates/weights set, I get a heart for everyday I do well and give myself some motivation, it's worked for me so far :)

Could be sodium, drinking lots of water will probably help! Honestly weight loss is a slow process, your body can only metabolize so much fat in a certain amount of time. I'd ask her if she wanted to be your weight loss buddy, and share tips and tricks with her! She can't be having a great time on a diet like that, it's just not sustainable.
