Stopped cold turkey 14 months ago. Only water, seltzer, and unsweetened brewed iced tea. And never looking back!!

Can I join this group? Am looking for women in their 50s to take this journey with.

Not sure if you have a meter yet, but your meter will be your best friend. It's the way you can tell what foods affect you in what way. You've taken the right steps. Don't be scared. There's alot of information to digest (no pun intended) but you can manage it with diet and exercise. Feel free to add me if you like.

I was referred to this group by a member in response to a question I asked on another thread. I am 55, hypothyroid (SLUGGISH metabolism), Type 2, and pretty sedentary. Need to lose 75+ pounds. I'm starting to walk everyday (albeit not very fast). I am trying to figure out how many calories I should eat (by BMR is 1640)…

I agree -- plain greek 0% yogurt has tons of protein. I think it's the added sugar from the fruit, or the artificial sweetners that could be making you hungry Try adding some fresh (or frozen no sugar fruit) and maybe a drizzle of honey to greek plain yogurt. It should definitely fill you up.

I've always struggled wtih how much to eat. I am 55, work a desk job, with very little exercise. My BMR is 1640. Should I just eat at 1640 and don't eat back exercise calories? Or should I do what MFP tells me to do and that is eat 1490, and eat back exercise calories. My metabolism is VERY sluggish. Any advice would be…

You may see a temporary gain but that would be from the sodium in the anchovies and dressing. I wouldn't worry about it. Drink lots of water, and just enjoy it!!!

It also depends on what you are eating. If you are consistently eating refined carbs, lots of sugar, fatty, processed foods, you won't lose as quickly/as much as if you are eating fruits, veggies, lean proteins, low fat dairy, and whole grains. The key is to expend more than you consume. If you upped your calories but…

Water, water, and more water...

I agree with Rekite. It's the total carb count at the end of the day that matters, not the amount of sugar, especially from fruit. There are so many health benefits from eating fruit that far outweigh the amount of sugar in them.

I've heard 40/30/30 is a good mix. The key is getting carbs from natural sources (if you stay away from starchy carbs and focus on getting carbs from fruits, veggies, beans and dairy). My trouble is getting enough good fats and too many saturated fats....

I prefer FAge 2% plain over any other. It has tons of protein, and the little bit of fat makes it stay with you longer than the fat free. It is less sour and more creamy than the Chobani. I put my own fruit in it (saves calories and carbs over the fruit on bottom types), or just eat it plain. And use it instead of sour…

I stand corrected

Well, I am diabetic, and why anyone would want to voluntarily put their bodies into ketosis is beyond me.

i like with with blueberries, strawberries, raisins, pineapple, tomatoes, plain, apple butter. There are endless possibilities. I usually eat the 2% small curd. Great protein, low carb. But, high in sodium...

I'm new and don't know what to do with my numbers. I am 55 years old. I weigh 216. My BMR is 1640. My TDEE - 20% is 1800. I know that on days that I exercise I don't want my net calories to be under 1640. On days that I don't exercise, should I still only eat 1640 or do I eat 1800? Should I set my MFP calorie goal to 1800…

try adding some fat (good fat) and having a protein, carb and fat at every meal and snack. If you exercising every day, you may need to up your calories.

I'm definitely in!!!!

Hi -- I'm Jena. I am 54 and have 60+ pounds to lose. My daughter gets married in June and while I have failed miserably at having lost ALL the weight, I can still lose something and feel good about getting my picture taken. I have insulin resistance and high blood pressure, high cholesterol, high triglycerides. So my…
