  • SO IN! just did my first... WOW. that is definitely a challenge. 4 to go!
  • ^ sometimes cliche is hiding truth. I've been wanting to "lose a few" for about a decade. But I always went about it in a half-assed or fad-diet way... and of course, I gave up quickly. For me, something had to snap in my mind. I don't know what did it. Maybe the fact that I just turned 40 and realized that losing will…
  • i don't even know what that is! i did get a scale that gives a little more info, BMI etc.,
  • i know it sounds crazy but: my back. toned upper back whittling down to a little middle? dead sexy!
  • ^exactly. it's straight up impossible for that to be actual gain. it's water. have you changed your sodium or potassium intake? doing something sweaty - like Zumba - without replacing needed potassium could throw things off in a major way. normal hormonal fluctuations also affect fluid retention. i wouldn't worry.
  • amymina from NY just started this. maybe you can friend her? today was her day3 i think.
  • I'm definitely doing a massage at some point! Hubs bought me a gift certificate to get a massage and I haven't wanted to spend it... because I didn't want anyone to see my "30 lbs heavier than I want" body naked. I know, silly. But I didn't. I'm SO getting that massage. Maybe when I have more muscle tone.
  • I have toyed with the idea of a reward. I was trying to come up with something good like, "pay myself $1 for each workout." So, I'd put the dollar in the jar each time and when I reached a goal I'd get to spend the money in the jar. That would also show me how hard I worked to get to where I am. Something like that. But I…
  • We already had a Wii. I heard good things about EA Active. So I got it, a little sceptical that you could "work out" to a video game. But holy squats, batman! It's a really good workout and both my husband and I find ourselves cursing it out at least once a week! And there are a lot of workouts on it at all different…
  • There are a number of Zumba workouts on youtube but the quality is always so-so. And unless you plug your computer into your TV, the smaller image will be annoying to follow. Of course, they sell the DVDs too. She can get one at Target and see if she wants to invest in a set. Honestly, your library might have one she can…
  • I don't know a lot about these things but maybe Pilates? If you have cable and the On Demand option, the Fitness section has tons of free workouts. Also, if you have the Fitness channel (not sure that's what it's called, exactly) you can record some workouts that seem interesting to you. I know PBS runs yoga at the very…
  • you've lost 14 - you're doing it right! keep at it. i mapped out that at 1lb a week loss, it will take me 8 months to reach my goal weight. and that doesn't factor in month-long plateaus. we certainly didn't become the "pretty fat chick" overnight and it will take a while to get it off too. be patient. you're doing exactly…
  • ditto all the "do what's right for you" comments. But also, a dear friend of mine got implants and she feels great about them. (She thin and went from an A to a full B.) BUT they feel weird - not that I grab them! But when she hugs me, they feel... not "hard" exactly, but nothing like real flesh. So, there are pros and…
  • Also a former WW member. (Lost 28lbs, made it to goal, became a lifetime member, kept it off for 6 years before putting on a few and losing my free meeting status.) WW still does points and they actually do suggest how you should distribute your points. Example, protein: 6 points , carbs: 14 points, etc. To me, the biggest…
  • I don't think it's fear, I think you're experiencing a healthy "wariness." And that's good. Personally, I don't buy foods that "I like too much." Why put that pressure on myself? Seriously, if you want want a small bag of chips as an indulgence one day: get in the car (or walk!) and buy that one small bag. It will get you…
  • I'm in too! I started a few days ago. Mom of 2 very energetic littles. For emotional eating, etc.: I typed up some notes to answer my "But I wanna eat!!" moments. I am going to post them on my fridge, pantry, etc.But maybe they can help you too: “I’m hungry!” Are you hungry or bored or sad? Take action: Drink a full glass…
