To risk sounding like a broken record, abs are made in the kitchen. Eat at a deficit, exercise, regardless of what it is, does not spot reduce. Exercise for the health benefits.

Best advice ever! Thank you for writing this :flowerforyou:

Lifting heavy has done amazing things for my belly. Almost 3 inches off since I've started. I'm on week 7 of Stronglifts. Oh and I eat loads of fat and not a clean eater by any means  ETA: I do eat a 15% deficit as well. However body composition has been drastically affected by lifting.

I used one for a yr along with strictly cardio, I didn't feel it did much to make my waist smaller, I just liked the support for my back. However my waist went from 29.5 to 27 in 7 weeks with heavy lifting. At 129lbs my waist is the same size it was at 115lbs when all I did was cardio. My advice and I wish I had followed…

Ah geez, necro thread strikes again!!

No, its Bust, Waist, Hips. Bust and Hips should be equal to each other and the waist should be at least 10" smaller than bust and hips. At least that is how it has traditionally been assessed. Interestingly most women identify as hourglass but in reality only about 8-10% of women actually fit the criteria.…

I suppose I'd fall into a classic hourglass. My body seems to stay relatively proportionate regardless of my weight. Currently Bust 38.5 Waist 27.5 Hips 38.5 At my smallest I was 34-22-34, although those would be impossible measurements to attain now at my age  Realistically if I can get to 37-25-37 I would be…

When I first started Keto I made BPC and loved it, but had a mental block about not eating food for breakfast. Finally this week I decided to do only BPC. Wow it's fantastic, both physically and mentally I've never felt better. I'm usually the kind that is starving 2hrs after a traditional big breakfast. Not anymore, I get…

Maintenance for me is around 1800-1900 cal, but I'm also 43yr so it's not as high as it once was. I do considerable less cardio now but do lift heavy, it seems to help a lot.

Yep I have a mug of BulletProof Coffee every morning, it's fantastic. You should be using the cold pressed oil, if it has no scent then it's not the right type.
-
Yes as long as you're eating at a deficit. Those last pounds are hard to lose but stay consistent and they will come off. I lost 4lbs in Dec and started lifting in Nov, that first month I barely budged on the scale but did lose inches.
-
From my understanding Atkins is Keto in it's first phase. Where they differ is Atkins then moves on to incorporate more carbs in it's subsequent phases. Whereas in Keto the goal is remain in a Ketogenic state all the time.
-
It's not complicated, people want to make it complicated. Deficit to lose weight, exercise to firm it up. Whether you eat 'clean' or not is a personal preference.

Can't say enough how much I love ABraThatFits. I had been wearing very ill fitting 32D's and found out I was actually a 28H. What a difference a proper fitting bra makes. I don't hate bras anymore!
-
No, actually the weight flew off for several weeks after I had mine last Feb. It did taper off but it was nice to get a good 15lbs off in 6 weeks.
-
Honestly no I haven't, that's why I relay it as strictly my experience. It's been rather baffling for me as well. I'm very much a numbers person and have kept logs since first starting trying to lose weight. I purposely did not change anything..activity, calories etc when converting from Low Carb to Keto so that I could do…

I'm taller at 5'2 7/8 and have a bit more bust/hips 38.5-27-38.5 and do feel too stocky sometimes. My problem is that I loose on my waist pretty fast and my boobs and butt take forever to budge. It's frustrating being short, every inch and pound shows.
-
It depends on what type of workout you're doing. When all I was doing was cardio I only took one day off every so often. I found out that my body didn't like that and I started to get burnt out. Now I make sure to get at least one rest day a week, if not two. Especially since I've started lifting.

like grains of dirt Just kidding, sort of

For me yes it has mattered, my weight loss rate is faster and I am not as hungry on Keto vs Low Carb. However if you don't want to do Keto, low carb works well for many others.
-
In my experience my weight loss eating at the same deficit and with the same activity level almost doubles while i'm in Keto vs just low carb. Nov lost 2.8lbs low carb, dec lost 5 lbs on Keto. There was some stall on my lifting but that seems to have worked itself out this week and had my first gains. I'm happy to stay…

You are confusing two different things. Diabetic Ketoacidosis is dangerous however that is not simply having ketones in your urine. Some people, like my husband are on Ketogenic diets due to certain medical issues.
-
No, that way of thinking isn't for me. I eat what I want as longs as it fits within my macros and sometimes even if it doesn't. I don't like living as if I'm in stasis waiting to reward myself.
-
The initial big drop people experience tends to be primarily water weight. This is why many give up when they don't maintain that pace of loss. In only a few days you aren't likely to see much fat loss.
-
No it isn't worth how awful I feel the next day. Did it on Christmas and ate all the cookies, next morning I felt like I was going to toss them all back up.

I've worked in LTC as an RN for about 12yrs, what I see is obese patients in their 50's to early 60's needing constant care due to health issues like diabetes, heart attacks, strokes. The non obese patients with the same issues tend to be in their 70's and 80's. I rarely have obese patients of that age because most die…

Yes just about daily, my favorite is Ghirardelli. I like that it comes in big squares and it's easy to measure out a portion.
-
I log everything and try to always use gram weight instead of volume weights like cups and teaspoons. Except for liquids of course, I use ounces.
-
If I have breakfast it's always protein and fat. This morning it was sausage and coffee with lots of heavy cream. I can eat the biggest bowl of oatmeal and it leaves me hungry 2hrs later, but fat and protein keeps me going for a long time.

You can do both, I follow a Mon Wed Fri lifting, Tues/Thur cardio schedule. You will still lose weight if you are eating at a deficit.
