I think they can be useful - it helps to block out negative thoughts. But for me it's no miracle. Just a temporary help.

I eat crisps every day and chocolate spread every now and then. I don't actually crave junk much, and if I really do then I just work it into my allowance.
-
Vanity, pure and simple.

I've lost 15lbs so far (5'6" 133 - 118) and no one has noticed. I've noticed though and feel way happier already with how I look. I think that a big reason others haven't noticed is that I always wear baggy clothes so it's hard to tell.

That's good to hear! It's had the opposite effect on me... ever since I started restricting calories mine has gone down the drain. Maybe I'll try exercising properly and see if that helps.
-
Just treat it as an opportunity to practice making this a life long thing, where there will inevitably be times you slip up
-
Only stuff I dislike. BUT I have banned myself from buying multi packets of any sort of junk or treat. If I wat something I have to go out and buy a single serving of it.

I only weigh about once a month because my water weight is always all over the place so weighing daily or even weekly just drives me slightly crazy. I find that this way I'm more relaxed about it. I just make sure I'm consistent and trust in the process.
-
2 and a bit more lbs until I reach a stone lost :)

I try to work in "treat" foods into my daily allowance if I want them. Sometimes though I do feel like eating more and letting myself be a bit more relaxed - on those occasions I will eat at maintenance. That way you're not taking a step back and don't go overboard, but have more room to eat what you want. So I guess…

Hey, thanks for the response! I already shift my calories around a bit so I can eat a bit more at the weekends. And I also skip breakfast - I find that if I do eat it I just feel ravenous all day. Maybe I'll consider 5:2. It's difficult though since I live at home and have to eat the dinners made for me. But yeah, I'll…

Thanks for the tip, I'll try this out. How did you incorporate more fat into your diet?

I'm aiming to lose another 8-9 pounds. I'm set to 1200 calories a day, but usually eat more like 1300-1400 since I eat calories back that I burn walking. I was planning on decreasing my deficit when I had 3 pounds to go.
-
Thanks for the reply! I'll give that a go. Im only really hungry in the hour running up to my meals, but I feel irritable and low basically 24/7.
-
Thanks for the reply! I'm not doing low carb or anything (actually eat quite a lot of carbs). Maybe I'll experiment a bit with different balances of macros though. And I don't do any exercise apart from walk so might try doing something higher intensity. I used to go running but never got that runners high. Maybe I'll give…

I have a large dinner (most of my cals for the day) around 7pm and don't feel hungry until about 11am the next day. Might want to think about experimenting with redistributing your calories?

Overeating occasionally doesn't do any harm. Just like eating healthily one day won't put you at your goal weight, overeating one day doesn't mean you failed and need to start all over. This is a life-long thing, and in your life there are going to be days where you eat a bit too much. Literally the only thing that matters…

I basically eat poached eggs on toast every single day It's my one true love
-
I'm doing it but I rarely drink anyway so it's not much of a challenge for me. Good luck with it!
-
Start small then it's not so overwhelming. Start just by tracking your calories, try to sub full sugar drinks for diet soda, maybe try to aim for maintenance calories just while you get back in the zone of logging, then aim for just a modest deficit. Don't cut out any foods, let yourself eat whatever you want within your…

I reckon a big part of it is probably alcohol withdrawal. I know that the day after drinking a lot I feel horrendously anxious the whole day. So I imagine that if you're used to drinking quite a lot regularly your body is still adjusting to not having any.

I feel like dreading Christmas Day because of the potential to overeat is a pretty unhealthy mindset (and one I've certainly struggled with before!). It is this kind of catestrophising way of thinking that I think can give days that you overeat the power to derail your efforts completely. Instead I'm going to go into it…

Well done on acknowledging it early! A lot of people don't face up to it and end up gaining back all of their weight. I often think that whilst binging the thought of going back to a strict deficit is just overwhelming. It becomes easy to just think "just one more day, then I'll start again" because it's daunting. So I'd…

3500 calories = a pound By eating 1500-2000 calories below maintenance a week you're losing about half a pound a week.
-
I just have a hot drink or glass of Diet Coke and just stick it out. Cravings pass.
-
I think that binging is so much more likely when you're overrestricting - and that can be by consuming too few calories or by restricting the types of foods you're allowing yourself to eat. I think the best way to avoid it (for me, anyway) is to have a reasonable calorie goal (only aim to lose 1-2lbs a week, depending on…

If you want long term success you need to accept that it's a gradual process and it's only really healthy and sustainable if you lose up to 2 pounds a week (probably even less for you since your starting weight isn't that high).
-
I estimate all my dinners since I don't actually make them. I just make a conscious effort to err on the side of caution and overestimate calories. It's worked so far.
-
I always think about stuff like this in terms of how many calories I must have over/under-eaten to gain/lose a certain number of pounds in a certain time frame. For example, have you eaten 35,000 (10 x 3,500) calories below maintenance over the past 3-4 days? No. Therefore it's not all fat loss. As others have already…

I find eating snacks just makes me way more hungry a short time later. So instead I just have more substantial meals. And if I feel hungry between them, I just stick it out. It only lasts 10 minutes or so then you feel fine again.
