Very anxious about transitioning to maintenance
In a couple of weeks I'm planning to transition into maintenance (maybe staggering the increase in calories over several weeks). I'm quite nervous about it though. I'm worried about things getting out of control and regaining. So I guess I'm just interested to hear about everyone's experiences of transitioning to…

Stuck in yo-yo cycles the last 4 years
I need advice because I don't really know what to do anymore. Each of the past four years I have lost 15-20 pounds. I always get super committed to it, and lose it by netting about 1200 calories each day. But then every single year I end up regaining it over the course of like 5-6 months because I just reach my goals and…

How to accept that this will be a life-long effort?
I'm a couple of months into maintenance at the moment. I maintain on 1600 cals/day + a couple of hundred exercise calories usually. I'm finding it quite hard to come to terms with the fact that if I don't want to regain I'm going to have to be really vigilant about food for the rest of my life. I haven't cut any foods out…

Did maintenance make you hungrier?
So I slowly upped my calories to maintenance over the past month or so. I find myself feeling more hungry and it taking more self-control not to splurge than it did when I was losing (netting about 1200/day). Did anyone else experience this? If so, did you get used to it eventually? Any tips? I guess I'll try to experiment…

Nose runs constantly whilst cycling?!
Is this a problem for anyone else? When I cycle outside my nose runs pretty much constantly. Sniffing every few seconds is really irritating. I assume it's something to do with the coldness and speed of the wind as you inhale or something? And if anyone does experience this, any tips? :)

How to log cycling without a HRM?
I've recently started cycling out on the roads around where I live. Today I cycled about 30k. But I'm struggling to figure out how to log it and get an estimate of my calorie burn. It must depend a lot on the amount of ascent/descent, average speed, etc. but how are you supposed to come up with a decent estimate when this…

How wide is your maintenance range?
Just wondering how wide everyone's maintenance ranges are?

Did losing weight mess with your cycle?
I committed to properly tracking my calories on New Year's Day. I average about 1200 net a day (but usually take in 1200-1400). My cycle used to be 30-31 days pretty consistently but now it's variable and more like 39+ days. This also happened last year when I lost weight. Just wondering whether anyone else found their…

Do you feel satisfied with the way you look?
In my mind I have this idea that once I reach my goal weight I'll be happy and satisfied with the way my body looks. I was just wondering whether this was the case for you once you hit your goal? If not, do you think you'll ever be satisfied with the way you look?

Irritable whilst on a deficit?
I've noticed that whenever I commit to trying to lose weight and consistently stick to a deficit (losing about 1lb/week) my mood just deteriorates and I'm so much more irritable, anxious and down about things. It's happening now, and happened last year when I lost some weight. Just wondering whether anyone else has…

Worried sister has an eating disorder
My sister restricts the amount and types of food she eats a lot, and there are some signs that she may be making herself sick. I'm really really worried and scared that she might have/be developing an eating disorder. I don't know what to do at all. I don't know how or whether I should confront her about it. I'm really…

Sick of so much guilt and shame surrounding food
I struggle a lot with moderation. I feel like I swing from being really strict and committed to just binging and physically eating as much as I can. I feel like there is no inbetween. Whenever I go over goal or binge I just feel so guilty and ashamed and disgusted with myself. I feel like I'm always either obsessing about…

Extreme bloating when I increase my intake
Since December for the most part I've been following a daily goal of 1200 calories, which works well for me. I'm flexible with my intake for special occasions - eating at maintenance or sometimes above. For example, the past week I went travelling with friends and didn't really watch what I ate so ate at maintenance or…

Does exercise help anxiety?
Just wondering whether people find that exercise positively impacts their mood/anxiety? I've felt pretty anxious recently for a multitude of reasons, and am thinking of trying to commit to running regularly as I've heard exercise can help. I've never really been into exercise though, so don't have much experience of it.…

Do you set dates for your goals?
Just wondering whether people set specific dates to meet their weight loss or fitness goals, or not? And your reason for doing so? So far I've set myself mini goals and dates to achieve them but have more often than not felt discouraged if I don't reach them... water weight fluctuations are particularly frustrating. I…

Is it safe to run outside when it's dark?
I'm 20 years old and I want to start running, and early in the morning is the most convenient time for me. I live in a relatively safe area, and would be sticking to roads with street lights. The idea of running alone in the dark makes me feel a little bit nervous though. I'm guessing listening to music would probably be a…

Do you love yourself?
Do you love yourself? If you do, but haven't always, how did you learn to? I find that I generally have a pretty negative self-view and put myself down a lot. Thought it'd be interesting to ask you guys just to hear some different perspectives. :)

Social Anxiety
I'm 20 years old and have struggled with social anxiety for as long as I can remember. I'm only comfortable around close friends and family. I just can't escape the feeling that I'm being judged or embarrassing myself in pretty much all social interactions. I feel anxious and uncomfortable doing even simple things like…

Why did you let yourself gain so much weight?
Really don't mean for this question to be offensive, and am aware that in some cases weight gain is exacerbated by medical conditions. I'm genuinely interested in why people let themselves become very overweight (especially to the point of it being detrimental to your health and quality of life), so would be interested to…

Why "detoxes" are a load of rubbish
I read an article on NewScientist dispelling "detoxes" recently. Thought it'd be interesting to share what it said with you guys. :) So, our bodies contain loads of different toxins, including heavy metals, dioxins, PCBs, etc. A lot of them are broken down or excreted within hours, thanks to our digestive systems, livers…

What do you think is the hardest part about losing weight?
I think the hardest thing for me is accepting that some days I will go over my calorie goal, and to not let that derail my efforts. What about you guys?

Anyone into mountaineering?
I'm a 20 year old female about to go into my final year of university and I'm considering joining the university's mountaineering club. I'm a complete beginner with no experience, so would love to hear from anyone who is into mountaineering (or used to be into it) about their experiences? I loved climbing when I was a kid…

Nervous about wearing a bikini
I'm going on holiday with some friends in a couple of days and will be spending time at the beach and by the pool. I'm pretty nervous about wearing a bikini. I feel quite self-conscious most of the time, despite only being about 7 pounds away from my goal weight. Maybe TMI, but oh well... I'm about 10 days - two weeks away…

"Moment at the lips, lifetime at the hips"
There've been a few occasions where people have said this to me whilst eating something typically considered 'unhealthy' and I hate it. Firstly, it's just plain wrong. Secondly, what do people think gives them a right to shame my food choices when they have no clue about my diet or goals or anything. Ugh, it just…

Should you workout while you're still sore?
I'm a complete noob to any sort of strength training. Two days ago I downloaded the "You Are Your Own Gym" bodyweight training app and did a little bit of strength training. My strength is embarrassingly poor - I can't even do a push-up. So I really want to stick with this and get to a respectable level of strength.…

Low calorie low FODMAP recipes?
I think I'm going to try out a low FODMAP diet for a while due to issues with bloating. Just wondering whether anyone had any low calorie low FODMAP meal ideas? It's quite restrictive... it cuts out most of my current diet really. Thanks!

Ex nail-biters: how did you quit!?
I've bitten my nails for as long as I can remember (so 15+ years) and I've tried countless times to quit. The longest I've lasted is a couple of months. I usually do better when I try and quit during holidays, when I'm less stressed, but find as soon as I go back to uni and I feel stressed I cave really quickly. I've tried…

How did you become self-confident?
All my life I've struggled with low self-esteem and self-confidence (personality and appearance-wise). I know that a lot of people have felt similarly in the past (or do now) and I was just wondering what you did/are doing to overcome it? Thanks!

Anyone else eat one meal a day?
I find I'm happiest when I eat all of my calories at dinner. I find that if I eat earlier in the day I end up feeling much hungrier than I would be otherwise and just obsess about food too much. Plus I like being able to eat a larger volume in one go in the evening. Just wondering whether anyone else did this? :)

Anyone else have trichotillomania?
I've suffered for the past 5 years with pulling hair from my scalp. It's gotten worse recently due to exam stress. I've tried so many times to stop but haven't been successful. Anyone else struggling with this? Or anyone who's managed to stop with any advice? Thanks.
