  • I’m in! *** SW: 176 GW: 160 Let’s do this!
  • I signed my whole family up for a Color Walk/Run! So my kids (12, 11, and 7) now want to be my walking buddies so they can prepare for a 5K! Also, I tried on an old pair of jeans I bought at least 11 years ago, and they fit!! It took me 50 lbs to do it, but I FINALLY went down a size!!
  • I choose kid snacks that I dislike, but know the kids love (I know I’m a weirdo, but Cheezits and Chewy bars fall into the zero temptation category for me). I also encourage them to eat fruit, and keep cuties, small apples, and bananas around. My kids even like to snack on hard-boiled eggs, cottage cheese, or olives!
  • I’ve struggled some with sugar cravings over the past 2 months, but I’m proud of how consistent I’ve been with walking almost every day when I get home from work. For me to do that through the months of January and February, when darkness, rain, and cold could have tempted me to skip my active time, feels like an…
  • I can't stand: Hashbrowns Hummus Cheese Nips Root Beer Black licorice Green apple skittles Those huge mint sticks (who can even eat those??) Mounds candy bars (Not really a fan of coconut in anything, actually)
  • Hang in there! The cravings do get much less intense after the first few weeks. And I have found that it helps to pair food items with higher sugar content with food items that have high protein or fiber. But I try to be picky about desserts (only indulge when it's worth it) and eat a smaller portion size because I know…
  • I'm going to try not to eat a sugary breakfast in an effort to avoid sugar spikes/crashes and cravings that last all day, but I'll indulge in anything that is worth it, I'll eat lots of veggies for satiety, and I'll drink plenty of water. I would like to get in a good walk each day, as well.
  • As I reread my earlier post, I can see why it would be taken as a lecture, so I apologize for my tone. I actually did read several of the responses before posting, but what I wrote was not in response to any of the posts I read in this particular thread. I enjoy reading threads, but rarely comment (due to time, my…
  • Ugh, I had a long comment after that, and it got chopped off. I have to go to work now, but I'll try to respond later.
  • It wasn't my intention to lecture, or use a "hectoring tone"--and I didn't have time to read all 230+ comments in the thread before The Walking Dead came on before submitting my thoughts.
  • My two cents: IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT WE CALL IT. I say this not as someone who has no strong opinion on this issue (I do), but as someone who works in intervention and relapse prevention for a living, and sees that what we call this problem is much less important than how we address it effectively. Whether one believes…
  • Congratulations on your 25 pound loss!! Seeing ourselves change and getting positive reinforcement from others who see it is very motivating for sure! I can understand and relate to the disappointment of putting in the effort and being the only one to notice the difference. But if you stay patient and keep following your…
  • I realized a few days ago that since losing weight my back pain (which was making me miserable every single day for YEARS) was completely GONE! I don't know how it took me so long to notice when it used to bother me all the time, but now that it has suddenly come to my attention, I'm so deeply grateful to be pain-free!!
  • A cookie is a sometimes food. (This is actually from a song on Sesame Street, which all of my kids grew out of and stopped watching YEARS ago! But I have really been focusing on finding balance with my eating, and this song often gets stuck in my head and helps me not to indulge in junk unless it's a worthy occasion.)
  • I didn't snack before the big meal, I was mindful of portion size when filling my plate, and for the first time EVER on Thanksgiving, after eating I went on a nice walk at the nature park with the whole family! THEN I had one awesome piece of pie. I didn't eat perfectly, but I didn't eat to discomfort or go nuts like I…
  • I mostly identify as an introvert because my personality and participation shrink with strangers in the room. But when I'm with a small group of friends or family I'm a completely different person. I'm downright hilarious, but you are all just going to have to take my word for it.
  • I wish I liked Hummus, zucchini, avocado, tomato, all the healthier dressings for salad. But I'm also lucky about some of the things that others seem to really struggle with that I don't care for! I can easily go without soda, mashed potatoes, chocolate cake, macaroni and cheese, and butter (on bread). So I guess it kind…
  • I think the slip itself is less important than what you do right after the slip. Try to look at it like a test. If you are truly committed to making a change in your lifestyle, you can look at what triggered this slip in an effort to avoid future slips, and move on, empowered with that new knowledge/experience. Remember,…
  • I just realized that I have not had one piece of Halloween candy, and it's November 19th!!! Really thought it was going to be harder to give it up (candy is my worst trigger food, and I have binged on it repeatedly every Halloween season for the past 24 years), but it really wasn't a big deal this year! I'm finding it much…
  • Kids are gross. I am a bit of a germaphobe when it comes to sharing food, and I have seen my kids pick so many wedgies and boogers that I have never had the problem of desiring to sample what they have touched. Actually, come to think of it, when I was a child my mother used to take sips of my drinks or bites of my food,…
  • The dress pants that were embarrassingly tight on me and were hidden away in my closet for many months are now the only dress pants that fit me! And today I had to button the extra inside button because they're loose enough that the clasps were slipping apart by themselves!! I also completed a wellness check for work this…
  • My point of disgust came on the day my husband was told he was diabetic. We were eating pretty similarly, and most of the junk food that came into our home was chosen and purchased by yours truly. We both needed to make some major changes, and I wanted to be a supporter rather than an enabler.
  • I have learned to embrace--and, at times, to exaggerate-- my pickiness. I frequently attend events/trainings for work where free junk food and desserts are available in very unhealthy quantities, and it seems like everybody around me indulges repeatedly. It helps me to bring healthy snacks from home, but I have also…
  • Went to an all-day training today. These trainings ALWAYS have tempting, unhealthy food choices for lunch. I chose 2 small glazed chicken breasts (passing up barbecue sandwiches and steak sandwiches) and a mixed greens salad (passing on pasta salad). I was the only person at my table who skipped dessert. The awesome part…
  • Female, 5'7 30 years old SW: 155 CW: 137 GW: Was 140, but now I'm trying for 130 (Really, though, the goal number is just because I know I still have a lot of fat left on me. I am comfortable with my current weight but am trying to tone up and lose the jiggle.) Would be very interested in having some friends my height to…
  • Getting up at about the same time every day helps, even on weekends. I have also started going to bed earlier. I sleep so much better when I stick to a schedule, and the better my sleep is, the easier it is to wake myself up early. Also, I sleep in a sports bra and workout clothes, and set my shoes, hairties, etc. out so…
  • The second bite is always harder to resist than the first! When you are contemplating eating something with refined sugar, remind yourself that your will power is much stronger BEFORE you take a bite than it will be afterward. And then run away. ;) P.S. I watched the documentary on Netflix yesterday, and it is eye-opening.…
  • I live on an Army post. I feel like I am surrounded by fit, healthy people, and because I am nowhere near that level of fitness, I also feel self-conscious. But I walk anyway! :) And for what it's worth, when I see someone heavier than I am walking/running/exercising, I do not think nasty, judgmental things; I am inspired!…
  • I've been logging in "Aerobics, high impact," but I take off warm up and cool down time. I may have to check out the kickboxing option! Seems like it would be more accurate.
