  • Popcorn! Tea or coffee?
  • I saw someone barefoot - no shoes even - in the Soldier Field 10-miler in Chicago on Saturday. The path goes down Lakeshore Drive and back up the trail path, so I definitely cringed when I saw him.
  • I love Indian and Pakistani cuisine (although I do not belong to either culture). Have you read any of Anupy Singla's cookbooks? She is wonderful, and so many of her recipes are low-calorie, low-fat, high vegetable, high-fiber. She is also on Facebook and you can follow her for recipe tips, etc.
  • I'm 5'10'' and 160 lb. and MFP gives me 185 calories for a 15-minute breaststroke swim. I know that MFP overestimates calories, though. Breast stroke is a lower calorie burn per hour than a faster stroke, like front crawl (i.e. "freestyle"). Also, be careful using breast stroke in your triathlon; the kick is strong and you…
  • I am also a person that has more trouble logging in the evening than the rest of the day, and I like to cap off a meal with a sweet. On sweets: I sometimes have dessert or a candy treat, but most times I eat sugar-free gum until the craving is gone. I'm usually not actually hungry, it's just a craving. On evening logging:…
  • I agree with others who have suggested to run slower. Also, running on dirt / grass will take a lot more out of you than running on roads / sidewalk / etc. They say it's better for your joints, but it tires me out and slows me way down, so I stick to hard surfaces with good running shoes.
  • I only have a few kitchen "gadgets," and two are food processor and slow cooker. I tend not to like how things taste coming out of the pressure cooker (or maybe that was just how my mom cooked), and I am paranoid that they will explode. I know it won't...but I still fear it, haha.
  • Jelly beans, and I'd also like to request the baked brie mentioned by @vegmebuff!! Potato or sweet potato?
  • Today I'm feeling peach melba. Baklava or Turkish delight?
  • Tea because I'm a tea snob. Also, I have a CSA, which delivers an assorted produce box every week from a local farm.
  • Try to combine fruit with a good protein or fat, like bananas or apples and nut butter, or melons with cottage cheese, etc. etc. I get annoyed when MFP warns me about my sugar goal when the only sugar I've had is fresh fruit. Then I eat pancakes and it gives me a high five because the pancakes are "low in saturated fat."…

  • Apple and nut butter, dark chocolate and nut butter, banana and nut butter... Hmm, I'm sensing a theme here with my favorite desserts...
  • SAVORY, especially cheese. Swiss cheese or provolone?
  • Totally. I hated running before, but after losing 40 lb. and lifting weights, I am in shape to run and enjoy it now. Just finished my first half marathon this weekend!
  • Carrot. Vinegar cole slaw or mayo cole slaw?
  • Stronglifts 5x5 helped me get into good shape to run, but I've been worried about doing it at the same time as running for the same reasons. I do long distance and triathlon, and I want to make sure I get rest. I think I'm going to re-integrate some low-weight squats, bench press, and some heavy dead lifts back into my…
  • Fluid ounce is a measure of volume. Ounces and grams are measurements of weight / mass. One fluid ounce will weigh differently depending on how heavy / thick the liquid is.
  • Protein and fiber. I'm running a half marathon and two triathlons this summer, so I need that for recovery. I also make fiber a priority for long-term health.
  • I got Birchbox as a treat - fun makeup / hair / lotion samples.
  • Breakfast smoothie with protein powder and fruits / veggies; overnight oats, Greek yogurt with stuff mixed in, English muffins spread with nut butter, hummus, or avocado...
  • I'd look at the circumstances that caused you to eat a lot in one sitting. Were you super hungry at the time? Did you eat a food that you can't stop eating? Were you tired, post-workout, etc.? You can try to avoid those situations, and make a plan to keep a reasonably sized portion of a snack or meal around for situations…
  • Apple! Pizza or tacos?
  • 1.What was the turning point for you? I got up to about 200 lb. I'm tall, so no one (including me) realized how big I really was, and it came on slowly. 2. When did you start this journey? The highest weight point was when I was in law school, about 10 years ago. I have started and stalled a few times. I got back on MFP…
  • My mom has had her high school weight - 130 - on her license for years. She's probably twice that now.
  • Yeah, they say that nuts you have to open (like pistachios or walnuts in shell) have the same property, but I go through those quickly, too. I think the idea was that it helps slow you down and think about each piece, but I dunno, I rip through those pistachios pretty quickly. :)
  • They don't inherently contain added sugar, but many do, and the best part of logging is to educate ourselves about this. Here are some examples of foods that surprised me with how much added sugar they contain: * Bread (American bread is so sweet compared to other markets) * Yogurt * Spaghetti sauce * Granola (one of those…
  • My comment earlier didn't mean that any food with added sugar lacks nutrition, but rather that the added sugar itself doesn't add nutrition and only adds calories. Articles on this point from the Mayo Clinic and American Heart Association linked here. From the AHA article: "Added sugars contribute zero nutrients but many…
  • Haha! That's an average, @tinkerbellang83, and doesn't account for holiday snack hurricanes. ;)
  • I've read about studies that show that people eat less if the candies are individually wrapped! Good on ya. These have been around for a while, but they're pretty good. I also enjoy the snack sized Reese's eggs and pumpkins.
  • Agreed. Sugars and carbs are fine, but so much processed food contains added sugars that provide little nutrition and more calories than you expect. Load up on nutrient-dense foods and the natural sugars in veggies and fruits.
