I think for the purposes of measuring yourself for clothes, it makes sense to find the widest part because whatever you are putting on needs to fit that area or at least get past it in the case of pulling up pants. It's usually around your butt, right over the area where your thighs start. That's the measurement I usually…

I've often heard from people that running is one of those things that you either love or you hate and there's no way to change your mind about it. I have to say, I've always hated running. I enjoy walking and speedwalking, but running I just find very boring, even with music. So my friend and I decided to start C25K last…

I'm 5'2" (officially, 5'2.5") and am currently in the range of 141-145, since it fluctuates. I'm down from 156. People already notice a big difference and tell me I look great. I fit into some of my old clothes and am quite happy with how I look. My goal is 130 eventually, but if I make it to 135, I'll be very happy.…

It's alright... I've dropped 12 lbs and I still wear the same size. The only difference is that my pants are looser on me, whereas they used to fit much tighter. But I'm not small enough to fit into the next size down yet. I think I may need another 10 to get there. I wouldn't let it bother me, though. Sizes vary from…

I don't ask precisely for this reason! Heh. I have a former coworker who was pregnant last year and she told me she and her husband were having dinner at a Fuddruckers and the cashier kept looking down at her stomach. My coworker felt uncomfortable, but didn't say anything. A few seconds later, the girl says, "I'm sorry, I…

I agree with the above poster that 4 lbs in 31 days is actually great progress. Depending on how much you have left to lose, 1 pound a week is outstanding. I've been at my same weight for almost 3 weeks now, but I also haven't gained, so I see that as a victory. Keep it up, you're doing great!

It's not a competition or a race. We're here to support each other in the journey and it will take longer for some people than others because all our bodies work differently. You also don't know what others have done to lose their weight either... their activity levels, their fitness levels... again, everyone is different.…

My boyfriend hates running (he does martial arts, that's his workout), so I do my own thing. Do you have any friends who enjoy working out or who would like to start? I have a friend/neighbor who regularly works out with me, whether it be at the gym or just walking/jogging around our neighborhood. Having a workout buddy…

This is a very good point. The real question here is, what standards will be used to decide whether a person is at a point where they *have* to lose weight for their own health? Sometimes it's a clear cut case, but sometimes it's more of a gray area and I don't want people to get stuck paying fines over a stupid…

My initial reaction upon reading the headline was, "The government has no need to meddle in an individual's personal health and lifestyle." HOWEVER, upon reading the article, it's clear that this would only apply to Medicaid recipients who ignore their doctor's orders. My view is that if it's a benefit paid for by the…

You really don't like *any* fruit? Have you tried them all? :-) There are just so many different kinds of flavors and textures, that I find it hard to believe there isn't at least one kind out there for someone to like.

They may if it means saving money. A lot of restaurants have pre-measured proportions so that they don't have to spend more money buying ingredients more often. If they have to spend more money on ingredients than what you pay for your meal, they'll lose money.

I don't have an HRM, but I usually workout at the gym and I set my specific weight on the machine before starting, plus I also let it measure my heart reat throughout the workout, so I'd think it's at least close to accurate. When I was at my higher weight, MFP's calories would usually be way higher than what the machine…

Yeah, in NY too. I went to a Cheesecake Factory in NY a few months ago and was delighted to see the calorie amounts next to each meal on the menu. Of course, I couldn't find a single item that was below 700 calories. *sigh* At least I managed to pick the healthiest thing I could find and ate better throughout the rest of…

Exactly! Took the words right out of my mouth.

My boyfriend and I take turns, but lately when I'm at his place, I've been doing most of the cooking because he likes to bread and deep fry things!

Has it been hot and humid in your area by any chance? I grew up in Puerto Rico, where it's super humid all the time, and there were times during the year when I was constantly thirsty, no matter how much water I drank. Sometimes my belly would be full from drinking water, but I'd still be thirsty. I'm a very healthy…

I got a wonderful Champion sports bra at Sports Authority (on super clearance) that I love. On trying on different bras, I've realized that brands don't really matter as much. Most sports bras I've tried on that are marked as "high impact" work great. I'm a C cup, so I'm not super large, but I am busty and those high…

This blog http://www.skinnytaste.com/ has some really great rice recipes. I tried the Chipotle cilantro lime recipe last night with brown rice instead of white rice and it was amazing. I'll bet it's even more amazing with white rice! She also has a scallion rice recipe that reminds me of an onion rice recipe my mom often…

Oh, yeah. I keep a bar of either Lindt or Ghirardelli 70%+ dark chocolate around and eat a square whenever I have a sweet craving in the evenings. One bar will usually last me several weeks because one square is all I need to savor it. I <3 dark chocolate.

Bump! So many awesome ideas here!

I do a combination. I generally eat more or less the same few things for breakfast, so I add breakfast after I've had it, and then at around mid-morning, I'll add lunch and dinner to see how many calories I'll have left over for snacks. I used to plan more at the beginning because I wasn't sure about portions and…

Omg, that shrimp avocado salad looks to die for. Thanks for posting! I think I'll be referencing this site quite often!

I was the same way, only drinking water when thirsty, but when I started working, I decided to keep a 16 or 20 oz bottle on my desk. I sip at it all day long while I work and refill it when I run out. I make sure to refill it at least twice a day (sometimes three). Then I have another 20 oz at the gym (and I make sure to…

5'2" here (or 5' 2.5" according to the last time my doctor measured me!). My goal for now is between the 130-135 lbs range, but ultimately, I'd like to work my way into the 125 lb vicinity. I've been there before and was quite happy with it. I've got a medium frame and carry a lot of weight around my hips.

I believe the 24g sugar limit on MFP refers to refined sugars, not fruit sugars. It's easy to go over on sugar when you have a lot of fruit, and while you still don't want fill up on those either, you are certainly allowed more than 24g of healthier sugars in a day. As long as you're not going over because you're filling…

Do you have any sources to back up this claim?

102 lbs for a 5'2" person is only for people who have reaaaally small frames. I find it unrealistic too. I'm also 5'2" and my goal weight is 130-135 range. I could probably get down to about 125 lbs, but any lower I think is unrealistic for my frame. I was at 125-130 for a little while a few years ago and I was a US size…

Never assume. If you put it all the individual ingredients, and the calories came out higher than you though they would be, it means you underestimated the amount of calories the salad has. How would you know how many calories it has unless you measured out all the ingredients anyway?

I started C25K in March (I'm on the final week already... time flies!) and yes, I have definately noticed a change in definition. My thighs are much less flabby than when I started, and although they still need work, I feel much more comfortable wearing shorts now. I've even gotten some tone in my arm, the last place I…
