  • Rob, How exciting to travel in Europe! I would have loved going on that trip. It doesn't sound like your wife was with you. That might have made it even better. You are doing great with your weight loss efforts! It sounds like this was a good test of your ability to keep doing what you're doing. Good for you, testing…
  • Yam, I had GASTRIC SLEEVE surgery done in May and I have no regrets! It is less drastic than the BYPASS surgery and with fewer possible complications. I would love to chat with you if you'd like to 'friend' me. You can also check out the community group for bariatric surgery here on myfitnesspal. Click on :…
  • I love seeing your "0 pounds to go." :flowerforyou:
  • Thank you, Chuck, for this post! I needed to read that I am not alone. I had my sleeve May 5. I have had a difficult time with a long stall but in the last 2 weeks I've had a lot of people comment on my loss. I feel slimmer and my clothes are baggy. I, too, have stayed away from MyFitnessPal, but I'm back and ready to move…
  • Welcome, John. You're doing great! 42 pounds in a month is amazing. Keep your eyes on the prize and remember why you started this journey in the first place. You will be amazed at what you can do. My daughter is my biggest supporter and my motivation. Welcome!
  • I agree with everything that's been said on this post. I think most of us who struggle with food/weight issues are using food as a comfort and a refuge. I have 2 things to offer: 1) I got into counseling before my surgery. I was so scared that I would have the surgery, loose the weight and put it all back on. That would…
  • If you've completed all that your insurance company requires and your doctor is ready to schedule surgery, I would expect the surgery to be schedule in the next couple weeks. I would really be surprised if it was any longer than that. How are you feeling about your upcoming surgery? I'm so excited for you!
  • Thanks for the great reminder, Mangopickle! I have been stalled lately and this is probably the reason. You have challenged me to get back to what I KNOW works best. :flowerforyou:
  • Welcome, Erica. I had my sleeve done on 5/5/14. I've found this site to be full of great information, helpful hints and fast friends.
  • Kneicy, I'm glad you reached out for help and friendship. I was really scared before my surgery, too. I was afraid of failure and all the unknowns. I didn't know about this group prior to surgery, but I discover it a few weeks after. I have found a lot of useful information and helpful hints from many wonderful people…
  • Thank you for these words of wisdom. I'm 12 weeks out from sleeve surgery and I find that too eat way to fast and my bites are too big. I will also commit to taking more time and smaller bites.
  • Welcome to the group. I had the sleeve done 5/5/14, so I am 11 weeks post-op and down 52 pounds. This is a very exciting time for you. You are taking one step at a time to accomplish a great goal. It's difficult at times. It's exciting at times. And at times it can be scary. All of that is normal. You are doing well to…
  • Hi Diane. I'm glad you're a part of the group. This has been a great resource and sounding board for me. Prior to my surgery I was very concerned that the issues that brought me to obesity would continue to hound me and that I'd end up right back where I started. I just couldn't live with that. I chose to get into…
  • I know that each doctor and nutritionist has a different plan. My nutritionist said at least 60 grams protein per day, no more than 20 grams carbs for each meal, and protein-only snacks. She is less concerned about the fat, but focus on whole foods and lean proteins.
  • Welcome to the group. I'm so glad you're reaching out to others who have been through the sleeve. I am 9 weeks post-surgery and down 50 pounds. I am continuing to learn about my new normal. Take one day at a time and be kind to yourself. Your body will have to adjust to things it's never done. The sleeve is a great…
  • I had the sleeve done 5/5/14. I was 284, PCOS, pre-diabetic, hypothyroidism, high cholesterol. I did a lot of research and attended a local support group for weight loss surgery. My doctor gave me the choice and left that decision up to me. Bypass will provide better overall weight loss, and has more possible…
  • Kudos to you and your mom for taking this journey together. I don't know the nature of you relationship with your mom but it sounds like you're close. Go back to the conversations you had before your surgery. How did you come to the decision to both do the surgery? That may be the same road to take. You are taking care of…
  • Day after tomorrow! WooHoo!!
  • I'm so excited for you! You had your surgery, lost weight and now you're home healing and getting into a new normal. I found that the first 6-8 weeks were hard to meet all the medical requirements - but it gets much easier. My doctor told me "Susan, focus on what you need to do and soon eating won't be such an event."…
  • Jena, I am so excited for you! Enjoy this Independence Day. Celebrate YOUR independence. Susan
  • When you drink right before or after you eat the fluids push through the food. Then you don't retain the fullness or the nutrition your body needs. Personally, not drinking while/after I eat is the hardest. But it's what's best.
  • I truly believe support is important. I have a lot of friends and family, and some of them were not very supportive of the surgery. I came to realize two things: 1) there is a general misconception in our society about weight-loss surgery. People truly believe that weight-loss surgery is 'cheating'. They also hang on to…
  • Thanks for this great idea. What a great place to share protein ideas.
  • Maybe not so obvious . . . for me! Thanks for the great ideas!
  • Thank you everyone for your encouragement and prayers. God is good ALL the time, even when we don't understand. I will rest in Him!
  • Hooray! I know how hard each step can be, but you have to take that next step. I'm glad you're healing and moving forward. It does get easier.
  • Thanks for the BlogSpot. These recipes look great!
  • WOW! Thanks for all the great ideas!
  • First of all - WOW! Congratulations on choosing to look into weight loss surgery. As any of us here at this blog know, it's a hard decision and a huge step. Keep learning, keep moving forward. I agree that the decision has to be YOURS. I had the sleeve done May 5, 2014 and I have absolutely no regrets . . . NOW. I was…
