QFT. Runners are all kinds of awesome, and not one whom I've had a chance to run beside whether training or in a race, have ever struck me as someone who would say "good job" to another runner with anything other than the intention of motivating them. We all started somewhere, and I feel like runners stick together and…

I have never considered it anything but encouraging. Especially being relatively new to the game of running, I too feel like "Wow. I'm a real runner because that other runner noticed me." LOL. I also am one to always say a thank you for your support to the rows of spectators and ALWAYS to the volunteers at water stations…

I'm doing it wrong. I've set multiple goals, achieved multiple goals, and have set more goals for myself. I didn't realize that when I reached that first goal that everything was supposed to just be over.

I wouldn't have done it, but, that's just me. It took me a year of running to do my first HM, and I didn't even know if I was ready to do that. Once I completed it, and had a great experience running it, I knew that I wanted to do another one. And for the first time in that year of saying - I can't imagine doing a full, I…

This is awesome. And here you thought you'd just wean yourself off of running!

I'm still at work - but was just checking in on the Manitoba Marathon facebook page, when I spotted a post part of their Monday Motivation series that is PERFECT for how I'm feeling as I am in the throws of my taper for my first ever full: The temptation to quit will be greatest just before you are about to succeed. All…

I can't got all day - when I run, I get drenched. Now that it is warm and sunny out though, I will linger in my running clothes while sitting in the sun on our back deck, cooling down before I shower. I do sometimes wear clean workout clothes out and about - especially if I'm driving kids around or running errands before a…

I kind of feel like a giant. 32 F/ 174-179 pounds / 5'11" My average heart rate on my long runs is between 140-150, my racing average HR for my HM pace is between 155-160. If I get up to 165 I can't last for much more than 2 or 3 minutes at that rate. My resting HR is between 56-59 bpm. To burn 1,000 calories I would need…

We used to watch The Racoons, Goof Troop, Darkwing Duck, Flintstones, Jetsons and of course Looney Tunes and Tiny Tunes - with Pinky and the Brain.

I'm 3 weeks out from my first marathon, and have been training since January 1st. I'm having similar mental struggles some days - did I train enough? Am I crazy for committing to this? What if... STOP! (This is what I tell myself when my mind starts to wander). I've done 3 separate 20 mile runs, and a great deal of runs…

My typical training weeks up to this point have been to run Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, rest Friday and Saturdays, and do my long slow runs on Sundays. Tuesdays would typically be my speed work/interval days. I have fine tuned my race day sport drink and gummies of choice by trying different things throughout my…

This is why tonsil hockey is dangerous. Gargle with warm salt water, and down a teaspoon or two of sugar to help soothe the throat. Tylenol for the fever/aches and forget the sammich, have some soup instead.

Thighs aside - I don't like to run in shorts because I always feel like they are riding up or falling down and getting all twisted. I stick to compression capris that hit just below the knee. I love Under Armour Heat Gear stuff - so soft, and light and great bright colours!

It wasn't until my weekly miles got up to the 20+ mile range that I started to notice that I was getting faster. So, adding more overall miles is the best way to get faster. I also have 1 run a week where I choose to push my pace just a bit for 1 or 2 miles - so, if I'm doing a steady 5 mile run, I'll do my regular pace…

Sometimes I think following a training plan sucks. I'm 3 weeks out from my first marathon, and easing into my taper. I've been following a modified (extended the training period, doubling up on sections) Hal Higdon Marathon training plan since January 1st. Some days the plan said 4 miles, and I suffered through each and…

Gels don't agree with me. I prefer the Stinger gummies or Power Bar gummies. Even then, I try to limit when I use them now that I know I can tolerate them. Sometimes I can swing 15 miles without the need for anything but water. On my last 20 mile training run I started to feel pretty hungry by mile 8 so I had 3 power bar…

My initial though was, this will not end well. Having tried to understand that you are hoping to learn better habits through these 3 days...well, my intial thought hasn't changed. The plus side, 3 days is not that long of a time...but long enough that I'd be crazy MAD because my body was hangry with me. A little food for…

I cannot even begin to imagine trying this. Oh the unnecessary upper body fatigue, not to mention the chance of injury for wrists/elbows/shoulders. Skip wearing the weights and when you get back from your run (or before you head out) do a few sets of push-ups/bicep curls/squats with a press at the end.

We've camped at quite a few nice locations in our province (Manitoba). Clear Lake in Riding Mountain National Park, Rushing River in north western Ontario. Our favourite is Grand Beach...fine white sand, great campground with well maintained and private sites. This year we took the plunge and got a seasonal site we'll be…

Breakfasts - bacon and eggs - cereal - pancakes Lunch we rarely eat while camping, because we are usually at the beach/off exploring etc. So, it's whatever is packable like cold cut sandwiches, cheese and crackers, carrots, snap peas, granola bars etc. We do lots of foil pack stuff for dinners - chicken with beans, rice,…

I hear you. I really hear you. I'm 4 weeks out from my first full. I've been following my training plan since January 1st. My problem is not my long runs, but getting the miles done during the week. A lot of those runs are done on my treadmill after the kids are in bed, which is usually fine, but I'm finding more and more…

This was udderly disappointing. I was hoping for bro-science facts, or a list of foods that will make me fat.

I stock up whenever I'm near an Under Armour Outlet. I also have bought some stuff from Sport Check and The Running Room. I hate spending a LOT on clothes that I'm going to sweat in so I'm pretty picky about the price. Lululemon is stupid expensive, IMO, but I did score an awesome pair of cropped tights from an outlet I…

My kids eat what we eat at supper time. Breakfast is usually a bagel, or frozen waffles and a fruit or yogurt and some juice or milk. Sometimes they'll have cereal like Vector (they love it!) Lunch our sitter feeds my youngest, usually a fruit, a veggie and either sandwiches, pasta or mini-pizzas. For my older child, I…

It's all expensive: $4.99 for a bag of spinach $1.79/lb of apples $1.49/lb of pears $1.29/lb of oranges $0.88/lb of bananas $4.99 for a 2lb clamshell of strawberries $3.49 for a pineapple $6.99/lb of extra lean ground beef $32.00 for a tray of roughly 8 boneless, skinless chicken breasts $4.69 for 4L of milk $2.99-$4 for…
