  • Hi Ben! Fellow Canadian and Runner here. I don't have official 5K or 10K times, but according to my garmin my unofficial PRs for those distances are: 5K: 28:09 10K: 58:06 I ran my first half-marathon in October 2013, with a finishing time of 2:17 (My goal was 2:30). I'm doing another half on May 4th and I'd really like to…
  • Congrats on the PR and look at how proud your boy is of his hardware!
  • I'm naturally a morning person, but it doesn't mean that somedays all I would rather do is lay in bed. My biggest motivator is that the earlier I can finish my run (talking long runs) then the more time I have to spend with my kids and husband during the day. It's harder in the winter, when the sun isn't up, and it feels…
  • +1 The exception is when it's quarter end - then I'd say I do, maybe 30 minutes of actual work.
  • I'm trying really hard to maintain a full body lifting session twice a week, focusing on using about 60-75% of my highest weights when I was doing stronglifts. And, instead of doing a 5x5 workout, I aim for a 3x8-10.
  • Not sure why it has to be just Moms in the study, but, I suppose most parenting things go that way. At any rate, my 7 year old proudly came home the other day with a backpack full of waivers/permission slips because she has decided to join the running club at her school - with a goal race of running the 2.6 mile super run…
  • My kids took care of the droopy breasts long before running did...if anything my running bras and shirts make these puppies look perkier than ever!
  • 2014 Schedule: 4 May - Winnipeg Police Services Half 15 June - Manitoba Marathon 26 July - Mud Hero Tentative: 19 Oct - Winnipeg Fire and Paramedic Services Half
  • I don't love it, and it isn't the rain part I hate it's the stuff that sometimes comes with it like winds so strong that the rain feels like shards of glass cutting into you.
  • This has given me a very strong urge to push you into a pool and swim through that gap repeatedly.
  • Winnipeg Police Services 1/2 Marathon - May 4 - This is my second 1/2 and I would like to finish with a 2:10 time (7 minutes faster than my 1st). Manitoba Marathon - June 15 - first ever full. Goal is to obviously finish, but if I can do it right around the 5:00 mark I'd be thrilled. Mud Hero, 6KM +18 obstacles - July 26 -…
  • So many times yes. This past week-end it was that thought alone that kept me going - and to have a hot cup of strong coffee. Nothing feels better than that steaming hot shower after long runs.
  • Running has been a part of achieving my weight loss goals; right after the foods I eat to fuel my runs. However - what I have gained from running far outweighs the number of pounds lost on the scale. Confidence. Endurance. Balance. Clarity. Strength. And not all of these are just in the physical sense.
  • I run. I support others who run; fast, slow, whatever. If you are out on the road/trails/path, and I'm there, I'll smile, say Hi/Wave and enjoy that small moment in time of knowing that we are all part of this bigger thing.
  • I am a runner who, on long runs, follows a run/walk schedule. I started off doing 10 minutes of running/1 minute of walking. Now I'm happier with doing 20 minutes of running/1 minute of walking. I didn't stick to training schedule when I did my first half last October. In fact, I think I completed 2, sometimes 3 runs a…
  • Every time I hit the grocery store, I come home with: Grapes Apples Bananas Bagged spinach/kale mix Yogurt Milk Peanut Butter Tortillas Bagels Chicken Breasts Granola Bars Cereal I fill in the rest with whatever recipes I'm making that week
  • I have never been tested for diverticulitis that I am aware (sounds like that requires a CT scan). As Patsy mentioned about pressure - when my flares are particularly bad it actually brings some great relief if I apply pressure to the area. Sometimes I use the handle of my rolling pin because the pressure on my fingers…
  • After many visits to different doctors IBS is what they told me. When I'm having a flare my symptoms are: - extreme bloating (I honestly look about 5 or so months pregnant) - pain on the left side, just above pelvis - very full feeling I'd be interested to know what sites you frequent/visited for details regarding…
  • At the peak of doing Stronglifts I was at about 80% of my BW and had to max there because of the lack of proper equipment to safely progress. I'm currently squatting 36.5% of my bodyweight, doing 3x8 as I progress through my marathon training which is my main priority right now.
  • Beets. Not all ways, but, I was surprisingly pleased by the texture in an arugula and beet salad I had recently.
  • I did the C25K program in Winter of 2012. By late fall of 2013 I ran my first half marathon. Later this spring I'll be doing my first full marathon. The best piece of advice I ever got when I first started was to slow down. There really shouldn't be much difference between your faster walking pace and your slower jogging…
  • I couldn't help by think - how does her mascara not run...LOL. She was clearly having fun.
  • On my long run days I usually do a bit of easy stretching for my hamstrings, quads and calves. Maybe 10 minutes worth. I have a post-run snack, and coffee. Shower, out on some warm socks and generally cozy clothes and go about my day with the kids. Later than night before bed I will foam roll, and do a bit more all over…
  • I've done all kinds of experimenting. I find that my runs tend to go better when I have something a bit more substantial - like a bagel with a small amount of PB and a banana. Cold cereals with milk make me feel worse - I get too hangry. Anything less than 12 miles I don't bother to fuel during my run. When I am doing 13+…
  • Often I just eat it boiled and put some butter on it. Shredded and sautéed with some sesamee oil and peanut butter. I will section it, put it into my crock pot with some whole mushrooms and pre-cooked rice. Top it all off with 1 can of low-sodium/low-fat cream of mushroom soup diluted with 1 can of water. Throw in some…

  • Our dog is a bit too old to accompany me now, but in the summer, when she can roam off leash at the lake, she will run the road to the beach and back with me a couple of times before she dives in for a swim and dries off in the sun.
  • Sounds like a great run, and I'm inspired by your sub 2 hour finish. :-)
  • 5'11" 35.5" inseam 179 pounds Thigh: 20" Calf: 15" BF% close to 24% My weight is in my bust, tummy and hips (saddlebags) but I don't have much that I can lose on my legs. Years of swimming, highland dancing, tap/jazz/ballet training have given me a strong base and I've always loved my legs.
  • Shoop - Salt 'n Peppa This is my all time favorite...I can't NOT dance and sing along. I also like: I kissed a Girl - Katy Perry Some Nights - Fun Wrecking Ball - Miley Cyrus
  • Nipples happen - sometimes at the beach, sometimes whilst working out. I doubt anyone but you noticed.
