Last to the party... but I ran NYC with a time of 04:18:20. It was a moving experience!

Yes, it helps. But as someone else said, it's less about running and more about creating a deficit. It also has to be something you enjoy and/or want to do. If these two criteria are not met, then no, it is useless. But, outside of injuring yourself, anyone that tells you running is bad is spreading fallacious FUD. I'll…

NYC was amazing! I finished in 04:18:20!

I posted this on your wall too, but figured I'd share here as well. I lost 110 lbs in about 10 months (from roughly July of last year until mid-March of this year). My "success" story is here as well: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/912120-from-fat-to-fit At any rate, I started with a low-carb diet to lose some…

Ok - last share, and I'll stop bumping this thread... promise! :-) One last before/after picture .. the picture on the left is from June of last year right after I got badly sun-burned. It's affectionately referred to as the 'lobster' picture. Since my wife had reposted it (jokingly) on Facebook, someone requested an after…

On becoming a runner.... just a little follow-up from my post-marathon reflections.. Late in 2012, I made a decision to become a runner (again). Running had been something I enjoyed and excelled at, especially increasing my distance quickly, all those years ago. I'm not entirely sure what sparked this recent desire to such…

To lay blame or fault isn't very conducive to helping any parent with their children. From a personal perspective, as a(n) (formerly) overweight father, if someone wants to find fault with the parents, then change has to start with the parents. If the parent is overweight and not taking care of their own health and…

I agree 100%! To expound upon that a little, I've learned one thing that doesn't come easily - it really is a journey rather than a destination. I appreciate that cliche more now than ever. Having the positive attitude and enjoying yourself - rather than viewing the journey as a burden - are two things that have helped me…

Thank you!

I've only seen them live twice... but they have a few more dates this year that aren't too far from me... I may see them soon.. :-)

Thanks guys!

Thanks everyone! I did notice a couple of comments regarding the marathon and wanted to clarify - It was a full marathon - 26.2 miles... and I already ran it. It was on 04/07/2013. My time was 04h:42m. On page (10) of this thread, there are some pictures I posted from the event. Thanks again for the kind words!

I think it took me right at 6.5 months .. My story with pictures is here: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/912120-from-fat-to-fit

The official pictures from the sports photographer were posted yesterday, so here are a few more. For anyone using Google+, here's a link to the album I created. It's publicly view-able. https://plus.google.com/100577335454916213762/posts/QqLRzpxNC6K

Here are a few other random pics I snapped during the run.. It really was a great day and an amazing experience!

The Knoxville marathon was today and I finished with a pretty good! 04h:42m:00s, officially, although my sports tracker showed my time at 04h:38m:38s! All in all, I'm quite pleased with my time. The Knoxville course is the most brutal run, with hills that seem to only go up, that I have ever run. Other runners, who had run…

With the Knoxville marathon just six days away, I just wanted to post a picture that my brother took yesterday on Easter. I guess I've dropped an additional 10-15 lbs since making original post. I have to say I do feel great and am starting to look like a runner.. :-) I'm ready!

As of 03/30 - 195.63 mile runs! For tomorrow, I'll do 4.37+ to bring my total to 200+ miles for March! http://www.endomondo.com/profile/176999

Rush is my favorite band .. It was a great show and I did enjoy it very much! I also saw them on the Time Machine tour in Nashville in 2011 and it was great as well! They are playing some more dates pretty close in the May/June/July time frames and I'd really like to see them again on the current Clockwork Angels tour!…

Awesome! Do you live in Knoxville too?

Thanks! I love the chocolate fountain in your pic too! I got my wife one for Christmas and we set it up for New Years Eve. My whole family loved it and it was a lot of fun! I made sure to run a few extra miles to stay under my calorie goal too.. :-)

I ran my first 'training' marathon today - just because I wanted to remove any self-doubt that I had about being able to do it. My time was 04h:28m. The Knoxville marathon is in 10 days, so I finally feel 'ready.' This was my last long run before the official race, and I'll be taking it easy until then. My experience so…

I can share my experience as someone who went from being sedentary to a relatively long-distance runner in a short time-span. I started running in mid-October of last year, ran my first half-marathon on Nov 24, and ran 20 miles this past Saturday (03/09). My advice is to start out with long walks. Turn those into…
-
Thanks again everyone! I am ready for the marathon and so looking forward to it! I ran 20.77 miles on Saturday w/ pretty decent pace! http://www.endomondo.com/workouts/165658996/176999

Humor (especially laughing at yourself sometimes) makes everything better! :-)

Thanks man! I will definitely post pictures!

Thanks man! I hadn't share this, but I had another friend that went down a similar path as me and I found it to be truly inspirational. His could have easily been another story in these forums, so I can definitely agree with you! Being in good company always brings out your best!
